Greg Hardy will make his debut for the Dallas Cowboys sooner than expected.

Arbitrator Harold Henderson has upheld Hardy's suspension for conduct detrimental to the league, but has reduced the ban from 10 to four games, the NFL announced on Friday. Hardy was suspended in April for his role in a 2014 domestic violence incident.

Hardy's money is what saved him.  He was convicted, period.  He didn't "play a role; he was the perpetrator.  It's comical actually.  In a convoluted way Hardy, Holder, and the Cowboys ALL "win".  Nicole Holder did not show up for the trial & that was that.  The prosecution went to extreme measures to find her, but to no avail. Why?  "Mecklenburg County district attorney Andrew Murray told the judge that officials attempted many times to contact the woman, but failed. Murray said the woman had reached a civil suit agreement with Hardy."  Pretty sure she is/was enjoying the $$$$ she received. Money talks & all parties are pleased.  Heck, Holder probably made out like a bandit. As a former waitress, no offense intended, I'm sure she was elated at the sum she was given. So it goes. The Cowboys, Holder, and Hardy epitomize America.  It's an ugly thought, but to my mind, absolute truth. The Cowboy's are truly "America's team", as this finally dawned upon me today.  I'm soooo happy they are not MY team.  HTTR

Americas team gets off easy once again. Screw them

How, exactly, is America's team getting off easy?  He acted like a douche when the normal penalty for such an infraction was 2 games.  The Ray Rice being-a-douche video came out shortly thereafter and public opinion on the topic went crazy.  The league retracted their original sentence and put him on the previously unsued 'exempt list' (or whatever it is called).  While he got paid, he was unable to practice his craf against quality opponents for a full season.

A proper suspension, under the rules that governed at the time he was accused of breaking the law, would be one game last year (already served) and one game this year.

The NFL is losing me man. This human piece of **** shouldn't get to see the field much less have his suspension reduced. I hope he rots in hell for what he did.

If all he did was act like a douche, I don't want to see what real domestic violence looks like. Give me a ****ing break. This guy is ****ing scum and the only reason you're defending this is because he's on your degenerate team.

Seriously, you equate domestic violence to a person being a douche? Give me a break man.

Who said I was defending him?  All I said was that, based on the rules in play at the time, he should have received a 2-game suspension.

Honestly, I have no clue WTF he did, or did not, do.  If you check my posting history, you'll see that I'm fine with banning people from the league for crap like he is accused of doing.

Not accusations. He was found guilty.

At any rate, it always amuses me when people always look at suspensions and automatically go Alex Jones if they see that a guy has 2 games to play against a division rival, and one, or zero against the others. And people in every fanbase would throw their hands up the same way if it was them.

I guess every suspension handed down should be for 16 games now...

It's not so much that every suspension has to be for 16 games. It's that every suspension should have some sort of consistency, rather than it seemingly being a system of putting a bunch of suspension lengths on a wall, closing your eyes, throwing a dart, and deciding that the one the dart hits is the suspension length.

A rough list of some examples, in order of length:

Greg Hardy goes - 4 games after his conviction is wiped away because his girlfriend didn't turn up to court.

Ben Roethlisberger - 4 games for a rape he was never charged with. (Seems kind of consistent, but then we go off the rails...)

Terrelle Pryor - 5 games for breaking NCAA rules.

Leonard Little - 8 games for killing a mother while drunk driving.

Josh Brent - 10 games for killing a teammate while drunk driving.

Adrian Peterson - 15 games for hitting his son with a tree branch.

Ray Rice - 2 games, then indefinitely until it was overturned in late November for beating fiance, recorded on video. (Goodell later announced that suspensions would be longer for domestic violence. Yeah, right lol. Amazing what one year can do.)

Dante Stallworth - Entire season for killing pedestrian while drunk driving.

Michael Vick - Indefinitely, but ended up being 2 years for dog fighting.

Ray Lewis - No suspension despite questionable (to say the least) circumstances involving a murder.

Beyond those, there are also suspensions handed out for game-related conduct, which often prove to be odd, but are beyond this topic.

Should the NFL give out extra long suspensions for moral conduct? I don't know. I guess it depends on what the league is aiming to be: A business where its employees see no further retribution than public law requires, or a more morally active league that's will try to keep a "clean" image? I can see the reasoning behind both, so I won't fault anyone for taking one side or the other. But one of these days, the league is going to have to decide which it's going to be, because they're doing a poor job of toeing the line.

Your post...  100% money.  Crazy how things work.

Not accusations. He was found guilty.

.

He *was* found guilty (check out the judge in the case.  She is crazy).  He appealed and the charge was dismissed.  Thus, not-guilty.

Now that the Skins have signed JrG, have your opinions changed on the signing of Hardy by Dallas?

Mine have not, and I for one am unhappy with the signing of Galette. I thought Scot was all about building a team with high character, I guess I was wrong.

1. You have to remember, this is a Redskins website, so it's just in our nature that we have to give any division rival a hard time, whether or not the transgression is true or not.

2. I live in the Charlotte area. I know Hardy did it. They found him guilty, but they had to acquit based on the witness being paid off...er not showing up.  I thought the 10 games was harsh, even before she skipped out as the case was "technically" dismissed. I thought 4 was the proper punishment.

3.  I really wish the NFL would hold off (like they say they will) putting these guys on the commissioners suspended list (Peterson, Hardy) before they go to trial. Both missed basically the whole season last year awaiting trial.  I thought the NFL said they would wait for outcomes before suspending players?

Which brings me to Galette.

4.  I'd like to see what happens. He had one charge (domestic voilence) dropped and we're awaiting the outcome of the beach brawl.

It seems like the NFL is now suspending guys even if they are accused.  I think that's wrong and if I was the players association, I'd be all over that. It's just way too inconsistent.  Take for instance Bashaud Breeland.  He gets suspended 1 game "this year" for something that happened in Training Camp "last year."  Why not give him his one game last year?

The NFL just needs to be more consistent with the suspensions and wait for the legal system to make determinations before suspending players.

3.  I think the exempt/suspended list is pretty much the same as suspending them.  These athletes, unless injured, have been practicing their craft for years.  Taking them off the field for such a long period of time must have a detrimental impact to their skill set.  So, give them the option to give money back that was on their contracts to void the suspensions.  Like others have said, the penalties that have been imposed are wildly inconsistent.  If they don't give them the option to return money, Hardy should only have one more suspended game as that was the penalty at the time of the infraction.

4.  As for Junior, he should face a two-game suspension as that was the penalty at the time of the infraction.  Then, I hope he is a train wreck for you guys...

Not to mention that Adrian Peterson's stint in "time out" could very well cost him a chance at the all time rushing title.

Mine definitely have not.

That's because my opinion of Dallas signing Hardy was "!#$!! " lol...

no way in hell do I give spousal abusers any leeway, but the legal and league ban ramifications are being handled or have already been handled. And if Hardy straightens up from all this, gets counseling and stuff like that there, then the Cowboys end up with a damn good pass rusher. I preferred when they basically had none lol...

As for Galette, my attitude is the same, except it's more "Holy !@$!!, what a steal!! :) "...

His charges of domestic violence were handled legally and either have been or will be handled by the NFL as well...so if he straightens up from all that, gets counseling and stuff like that there, then the Redskins end up with a damn good pass rusher for pretty much free, at least for this year. But if he does straighten up and fly right, the Skins have the very real possibility of having two stud pass rushers behind a possible menacing DLine. I prefer when they have that lol...

Then make your suspension a six game suspension.  THAT was the agreed to length of punishment for domestic violence, never mind an actual ****ing court conviction.  Roger makes up **** as he goes along. Rest assured the NFLPA will not allow this power to Roger, or whomever, in their next negotiation. It they do they are totally inept. Actually, they are. Yea, I hope your guy fails too. HTTR

Apologies if I am wrong.  I thought the original 'normal suspension' for domestic violence prior to the Ray Rice situation was two games (which, I believe, is what Hardy was 'sentenced' to by Judge Goodell).  If I am wrong, then all of them should be subject to the same punishment.

I am curious what popular opinion is on court conviction versus accusation.  I would love to ask but I am afraid it deserves an individual thread.

Two games is correct.
