Honeymoon advice...

Anyone know of any good travel agencies on the net to find potential honeymoon locations for a decent rate.

Also anybody have any good suggestions on where to go...I'm looking for someplace where I can do some scuba diving.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Thanks for the reply, we had heard that it would be best to go the all inclusive route from others so that is probably what we will do.

Why is Sandals not a good idea if you are over 25...I will be 25 next year when we are planning on going...wedding isn't until next June.

As for Scuba diving, neither of us have ever gone but we are hoping to learn in the not to distant future...may or may not happen.

Sandals is a VERY VERY active resort. Lots of activities and worst of all (IMO) lots of staff trying to convince you to participate.

It's also jammed with younger honeymooners. You'll be fine. If you were in your 30s Id recommend a higher scale all inclusive.

Most of the big ones have scuba available. It'll probably be a 1 day "resort" class to get certified. So you will lose a day of the vacation.

Two words: Saint John

Trust me on this, you will not find a better place to spend a honeymoon, and yes, while the scuba diving is not the top rated in the world, it's pretty good.

As a matter of fact I'm heading there in July. One of the people in my party is a diver and she'll be experiencing the U.S.V.I. waters for the first time.

Caneel Bay or the Westin in St. John are the two places you might want your travel agent to check for in terms of deals. Otherwise consider me a resource for places to stay and things to do.

How about a cruise in the Carribbean? Carvival Cruise Lines are geared toward younger people, they have one that goes to Cozumel, Ochos Rios, and the Cayman Islands, all of which have great scuba waters.

Everything's taken care of for you.

I looked at Sandals and almost went with them but our travel agent told us about Secrets - another all inclusive resort with 3 locations (to my knowledge). She said it was perhaps a bit nicer and a little bit better value as we got 7 nights at Secrets for the price of 5 nights at Sandals. We even got a better room (two jacuzzis - one inside one outside!) and it actually was even a couple of bucks less.

We get married in a couple of months so if I remember (ha, good luck here) I'll let you know. The travel agent said good things about it. We are going to the one in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.

I went to Tahitii in the South Pacific. Spent a weak their and then went on to Bora Bora.. not to be confused with Tora Bora.

Tahitii was OK but not a great HM spot. Bora Bora was one of the most beutiful places on Earth. If money is no object then Bora Bora is the spot to go.

If you want to go a little cheaper ten the Virgin Islands is an excellent substitute. It's closer and parts of it are just as nice. Saint Johns has already been mentioned.

One twist. If you're a sailor, chartering out of Foot Loose is really excellent. Their equipment is a little older so it costs like 25% of what the newer chartering agencies cost. Lots of US and British Park Service moorings and plenty of restaurants and shops which cater to sailers. Also many of the best scuba spots are best accessble from a sailboat.

Sail two-three hours a day scuba or snorkle 4-6 hours a day, Drink and eat the rest of the time... And with Foot Loose you can afford to do it for a months rather than a weak..... Heaven..

I completely agree. I had my honeymoon on St. John, and it was incredibly amazing. I would add hiking and pristine beaches to the list of things to do. Also, consider renting a villa on the east side of the island if you want a more remote, secluded vacation. I would be happy to share any ideas as well.

If you want an amazing honeymoon take Royal Carribean's newest Voyager Class ship The Mariner Of The Seas. You can go scuba in Jamaica, Caymen Islands, Mexico, and a private island owned by RC. World class dining and shows every night and if that does not interest you maybe the casino will. It is simply one of the best vacations I have ever had.

Dude, I've been to Sandals twice and I'm going again Christmas time. It's definately worth the money, and I would suggest spending the extra money to get the in room bar.

Here's a link to a trip report I posted. . . Warning, it is long.

Thew, where in Tahiti did you stay? I am planning a 15 year anniversary with the misses in a few years (although we aren't even married yet :)) and I want to go to either Tahiti, Fiji or Bora Bora. I was wondering where you stayed and if you had any suggestions.

TD,

I concur 100% that renting a villa is the way to go, which is what I always do. If you don't care about a resort's honeymoon package and all that goes with it, my opinion is that a villa is far more romantic. Many of the villas in St. John have outdoor showers (hidden from view of anyone but with views of the ocean and hillsides), jacuzzis, and pools.

If this means anything, I've been taking groups of people with me to St. John for the past 10 years or so (I grew up in St. Thomas so I'm a somewhat knowledgeable tour guide). All told I've probably taken around 20 different individuals. Of those people only 2 have never gone again on a future trip to St. John.

For the upcoming trip in July there's one person who is going for his 4th time in 2 years. Another is going for her 2nd time in 7 months. One is going for her 2nd time in 2 years. One is going for his 8th time in 6 years while his girlfriend is going for her 2nd time in 7 months. We have 1 rookie who as I mentioned earlier, is a diver and is going for her 1st time.

We went to Greece for our honeymoon, it was great. There are lots of resort Islands if you go in the summer, and lots of historical things to see if you get tired of relaxing ;) on the beach all day. It'll cost you though.

Belize..............great place to dive, not as high priced(yet), as the more well known places and you can catch cruises out of Tampa if so inclinde.

We don't use a travel agent. we do all our own bookings to put together the type of trip we want.

A cruise is the best bang for the buck IMO. You get everything you need, except for your drinks. We were thinking of doing a cruise this year the prices were so low. Timing was off:doh:

We did a custom "disney" cruise for our honeymoon. The packages didn't fit what we wanted, so we booked the cruise and stay at Disney seperate. There was no way I was gonna do a small room and bed on my honeymoon.

We had an upper deck cabin. Queen size bed, fullsize bathroom, sitting area with satellite TV, and port holes that opened. I love the see air.

We stayed at the Grand Floridian in Disney, which was only about 8 months old at the time, and still an outstanding hotel.

Mick, here on the board, was a travel agent for some time If memory serves me. I doubt he would mind if you PM him, and he may be able to point you in the right direction.
