Fergasun
It is disgusting for the US Secretary of State to compare President Trump to Queen Esther of the Bible and use words that insinuate he supports Iranian destruction. I know we have a general thread, but I sometimes read "get your bonkers ready".
PleaseBlitz
I mean, he definitely supports Iranian destruction. I don't know who Purim or Esther is, so I'll hang up and listen.
Springfield
I have no idea who Queen Esther is but it’s pretty gross how much many religious folks are idolizing Trump.
Elessar78
Purim is a Jewish holiday that commemorates the saving of the Jewish people from Haman, who was planning to kill all the Jews. This took place in the ancient Achaemenid Persian Empire. The story is recorded in the Biblical Book of Esther It is also known as the Festival of Lots. All you got to do is give the faithful something to believe in.

The traditional way to observe it is to drink so much one "can't tell the difference between Haman and Mordecai". Lots of booze in the synagogue on that day. Seriously. https://www.myjewishlearning.com/article/drinking-on-purim/

Seriously. https://www.myjewishlearning.com/article/drinking-on-purim/ Great info, thanks! I am an athiest, but I've made it a habit to celebrate the religious traditions of my friends, across religions, that have a "feast" aspect (like Christmas, Easter, Eid Mubarak and as many Indian weddings as I can get into). Purim sounds like a wonderful holiday. As luck would have it, I did get pretty hammered on Wednesday, so I'll go ahead and count it as my first Purim.
