Tsailand
Five out of the 20 highest all time first-four-games passing yards totals have come this year. Highlighted orange below. Highlighted yellow are the first four games of Peyton Manning's record setting season. Perhaps the rules changes to protect passers have gone too far... source: https://www.pro-football-reference.com/play-index/pgl_finder.cgi?request=1&match=single&year_min=1950&year_max=2018&season_start=1&season_end=-1&pos=0&game_type=R&career_game_num_min=1&career_game_num_max=400&game_num_min=1&game_num_max=4&week_num_min=0&week_num_max=99&c1stat=pass_yds&c1comp=gt&c1val=1200&c5val=1.0&order_by=pass_yds
Tsailand
Updated through the first six weeks; QBs that have already had their bye are eligible, though at a disadvantage. https://www.pro-football-reference.com/play-index/pgl_finder.cgi?request=1&match=single&year_min=1950&year_max=2018&season_start=1&season_end=-1&pos=0&game_type=R&career_game_num_min=1&career_game_num_max=400&game_num_min=0&game_num_max=99&week_num_min=1&week_num_max=6&c1stat=pass_yds&c1comp=gt&c1val=1800&c5val=1.0&order_by=pass_yds
TradeTheBeal!
Man, Bledsoe was slinging it all over the yard back in 94.
Cooleyfan1993
Didn’t Brees throw for over 3,000 yards in 2011...? ohh those are just through 6 games. Oops...

Still remember watching a game that season where he had 70 pass attempts in an OT win against the Vikings. That is still the record for most attempts in a game. Voice_of_Reason
I’m shocked Marino’s 1984 season isn’t up on the list. That yardage record stood for 20 years...and is still one of the top seasons...
Tsailand
Marino's 1984 season is creeping up the ranks. Guess he started slow that year. Through eight weeks:
Tsailand
Through 12 weeks... Ryan and Big Ben are right up there. Two 400 yard games and three 350 yard games from either of them would break the record.

justice98
I think about 3-4 of those guys are on pace to break 5000. That's crazy.
Tsailand
All three of them are on pace to break 5000. The next QB down, Goff, is not.
Burgundy Yoda
Mahomes is going to break a lot of NFL records. I would trade our entire roster for him without even thinking about it. I have never in my life seen a player make the throws he does on the run. KC is so freaking lucky, they're set for the next 15 years.

Tsailand
So, no records were broken. Congrats to Big Ben and Mahomes for getting to 5000 yards.
Nerm
It was surprising to me to see the vast majority of those top 20 passing yard seasons coming when the QBs are in their 30s. Of the top 7, the youngest QB was age 32. Dan Marino's season was so epic, considering his age, and the fact that he did it in 1984. All the others on that list are 2011 or later. I guess I never put his season in the proper perspective until just now.
