NewsNerd.com: Allen Iverson Seen Begging for Change Outside Atlanta’s Lenox Mall

Big Weirdo

Recommended Posts

Disrespected the most by Iverson himself.  Guy is a textbook case for squandering talent.

Squandered Talent?

11x NBA Alstar.

4x NBA Scoreing Title

3x NBA Stealls leader

And never really had a very good team around hin, yet still took his team to the NBA Finals.

I htink his failure to win a championship weighs heavily against him in comparisons with guys like Magic, Bird, Jordan, Tim Dunkan, or Dirk.....

But I think Iverson was a little guy who worked his butt of in every game he ever played in.    He did the most with the physical attributes he had...  He was an incredible over archiever who was fun to watch and probable the biggest star in the NBA for a time.   To say he "squandered his talent", is way overstating reality.

Reality is he was a great talent who went to a bad team, and for a time was able to elivate them to the elite of the league (finals) almost single handedly;. before falling back to earth.     For a 6' tall point guard he did pretty well.

one of the most overrated players to ever play the game.

How can you be one of the most overrated players to ever play the game with

11 NBA Allstar apperances, 4 scoring titles, and an NBA MVP under your belt?

What are you talking about?

league MVP

double digit all-star games

multiple all-nba first and second teams

What did he squander away again?

I don't know how old you are bruh but I remember this.  I wish I didn't.

Bowling alley incident

Several drug and concealed weapons charges

Caught speeding and smoking dope in a car and switching seats with one of the guys in his posse

Numerous threats and physical violence

Rap disc with lots of lyrics showing violence and hatred toward women and gay people

Atlantic City chip incident.  Several other casino bans in multiple cities.

Aggravated assault, breaking and entering, weapons charges back in ‘02

His drinking and gambling problem

Worst possible role model for the black community

And all that was off the court

So now On The Court

NEVER a champion.  Never.

Has the record for worst 3 point season average in league history

Stole money after his career was OVER from the Pistons and the Grizzlies

Would only play in an offense and for a team where he is the primary option on offense

Uhh, refusing to practice

Fined and suspended numerous times for disciplinary reasons

Wouldn’t play and would fake an illness if he didn’t get to start

*yawn*

I swear the man's career is SO disrespected.  SMH.

Volume shooter.  Moreso than Kobe.  Stats look nice, terrible efficiency.  Of course at his height, you give him a lot more leeway.

He got the better of Jordan, and that makes him awesome to me.

..Yeah he had a nice crossover and Jordan went on to win his 5th championship a few months later.  Guess he won that one.

Squandered talent...LMAOOOO

Broke?

A person with a firm grip on the situation informs me Iverson has an account worth $32 million, a principal he is prohibited from touching until 55. In the meantime, it feeds him $1 million annually.

At 45, Iverson is eligible to start drawing on an NBA pension that maxes out at 10 years of active duty, or take whatever’s there as lump sum. He will be entitled roughly to $8,000 per month ($800 per x 10).

If at all possible, Iverson will issue a restraining order against himself until he’s 62 or so. At that time, I’m told, his lump sum will be between $1.5 million and $1.8 million, or he can elect to take monthly checks of approximately $14,000 per.

He's one of the best small-guards in NBA HISTORY and one of the 50 best to ever lace them up.  Transcendent talent, IMO, regardless of what you think of his shooting percentages etc.  People let their dislike for the man cloud any sort of objectivity.  Squandered talent....hahahahahahahaha

Hey, I like Iverson.  Dude was a real gamer.  But, let's be real, had he dedicated himself to being a better teammate and a better all-around individual, he would have had a much better career.  I think it's pretty difficult to argue otherwise.

The dude gave 110% on the floor at all times.  I don't know how much better of a career he could have had.

"A person with a firm grip on the situation." Nice source. lol

You would have discredited the source even if a name was attached, Bubble Skip.

So basically, we're arguing his "gamer" stats versus his "citizen" stats.

And what we've come up with so far is that he was a total badass on the court while making some really dumbass moves off of it.

Cool by me.

Put "teammate" in there with "citizen" and we are in 100% agreement.

Can you provide some quotes from his ex-teammates that prove that he wasn't a good player to be on the court with?

Can you think of another prominent professional athlete, ever, in any sport, that showed a greater disdain for showing up for team practices.  We all like the "practice" quote cause it's a rare glimpse of unvarnished honesty from a guy at a presser and it's funny, BUT it shows a decided lack of maturity and leadership that was evident in Iverson throughout his career.  Dude had a fatal flaw in his game.  And, again, I really enjoyed watching him play and rooted for him more often than not.

Do you really find my position that controversial?  I'd be willing to bet that Iverson himself has some serious regrets about his behavior in his 20s.  In fact, I'm absolutely certain of it.

Of course there is something to be said about his disdain for "practice," however, it's funny how that disregard NEVER showed up when the games had to be played.  There are plenty of players in the NBA who not only give a 1/2 ***** effort in practices, but also in games.  That was NEVER the case for Iverson as he always left everything he had on the floor.

I'm a long time Iverson fan dating back to his time when he came out of Bethel HS and got a pardon from Doug Wilder.  He was a wild man off the court, but I only admired him for what he did while playing the games.  Simple as that.  He's about as close to a transcendent talent due to his size that you'll find.  There were numerous Iverson clones that hooped in college (scoring guards like Keydren Clark, SirValiant Brown, Marcus Hatten, Luis Flores, etc.) and none of them sniffed the NBA, except for maybe a cup of tea in the preseason.  For a guy like Iverson who was closer to 5'11" than the 6'0" he was listed at, all of those clone failures shows just how talented he was....not just to be drafted #1 overall, but to have a HOF career and be discussed as one of the 50 best to ever lace them up.

Not saying you, but a lot of people have a hard time separating the man from his ups and downs off the court from what he accomplished ON the court.  This is why I feel like he's one of the most disrespected superstars that the league has ever seen.

It is what it is though...can't wait for his HOF induction in a few years.

I don't think anyone is arguing he doesn't deserve to be in the Hall of Fame.  I have always considered A.I. overrated but not to that extent, he is a no-question Hall of Fame player.

Yeah, your pops definitely got the better of that one.

Wow zing, you have a career ahead of you in stand up...

For the record, the best crossover A.I. put on was vs. the Wizards when he made Antonio Daniels fall down.  I think that was maybe in 2005 or 2006.  Absolutely criminal what he did to Antonio Daniels.

Just messin', lol. I cannot deny that I was looking at my watch, counting down the minutes before you would respond to that, though.

And standup is sooooo totally not my thing. I 'd prefer to keep my humorous side as a hobby.  :D

He going to sit you on his shoulders while  on the sidelines of Hornets games this year?
