Losing is terrible but we must look at some positives:

Trent Williams was injured early in this game. After that the Skins had less than 2-3 seconds to throw a pass because his replacement was a revolving door. He was AWFUL. The only thing the skins could do in the 2nd half was completely change their game plan to help the tackle (Black). Pray that Williams will be back soon or we'll see actual GOOD defenses shut the skins down completely

I'll even lay some positives on some defenders.

DHall had some really nice plays in the run game, and had some very nice tackles out in the passing game.

AJ Green beat the redskins entire defense, but in some ways the defenses shown put the secondary in very bad positions. The 8 man front was ridiculous. Josh wilson is catching some hell for that, but really.. they put him on an island. Instant advantage to the offense.

Rob Jackson played like a BEAST. i was worried about him, was not impressed with his work in preseason. But yesterday, wow... very smart player, hustled, made plays. Big time kudos for Jackson stepping in for Orakpo.

Stephen Bowen played his ass off too. Our d got trashed in pass yards, but the run game went nowhere. Nowhere. GreenEllis was getting stuffed, and lost the first fumble of his entire career.

If Kerrgan isn't held every play, he has 4 sacks. Played well. Hard to beat the refs while you're trying to beat your man, who is cheating.

The special teams finally had a flawless game. Really, really good game. Clean, good hitting. Very sharp. (For some reason, the Bengals didn't come after a single punt. Anyone's guess as to why)

However, the fact that a mistake-free day on ST is something to celebrate furthers my overall point about Smith.

Came in here just to make this point, thanks for already hitting it. I was very, very impressed with Rob Jackson yesterday. Extremely encouraging to see him step up in 'Rak's absence. Hope he can keep it up!

People have to remember, this season we are not favorites for the division crown or super bowl. Although after we beat the Saints that's what the excitement from fans was portraying. This season is all about finding what we have and what we need.

We now know we are going to have an offense that can score and having a good QB means we are almost never out of a game. We would have been blown out yesterday without our new offense.

1) we actually came back from 17 down (24-7) and were 19 yards shy of coming back from 14 down in the last 7 minutes of the game

Truth.

And we were in position to make a serious attempt at tying the game had it not been for the refs losing control at the end.

And to top it off, they miscalculated the yards for the penalty they called and took away five more yards.

It ended up a 20 yard penalty because our coaches came onto the field to tell them they could not run the clock on a false start.. How this happens with a supposed "Professional" set of officials in the booth and on the sideline is beyond me. I can get that the replacement refs are mistake prone.. but that one was a no-brainer for the upstairs crew and sideline guy to step in. They literally had everything wrong.

Two sides to this coin. Defense is allowed to force a punt and a three and out of their own. They don't have to escort the other team down the field. The defense is paid to make stops. If the offense is floundering that does hurt the d, but it doesn't mean we can't have a defensive showdown. Defense is paid to play too and they haven't been. Play has been terrible. Scheme has been worse.

Agreed. No excuses. If you want to catch a breather, make the other team go 3 and out. That would give our offense MORE opportunities to make plays towards scoring. Period.

What's most frustrating about this defense is that for the first 3 quarters of the new season they looked pretty good. Hell, they only gave up one touchdown to a Drew Brees led offense in the first half. In the 4th quarter of that game and obviously for the better part of the other 2 games they've just been completely inept. I'm not expecting a championship calibre defense but I didn't think they can't be THIS bad. Can they?

In keeping the with the positivity theme of this thread, RG3 and our RBs all look good. I'm glad we have such a young offense that can carry us into the future.
