Wynn's contract.

I thought the same thing. This certainly appears to be a pretty friendly contract. And, in terms of back loading, I expect it to be JUST that. The bonus that low also means his first three years of salary will likely just be $3.5 million as the Deion rule makes bonus money and base pay equal out early in a contract. I could see a three-year, $7 million contract for this guy and I would seriously doubt his base salary is that large early on.

We'll see in three days on NFLPA.org though .

For a 27 year old player the $3.5 million bonus is something the team should be able to work off as long as Wynn is not a bust or gets injured his first year.

I find it somewhat ironic that while getting 5 sacks last year that Wynn is primarily a run-stopper, while Lang gets credit for being a pass rusher despite only having 4.5 sacks last year as a full-time starter.

I have faith in Marvin Lewis that he will play Wynn at the most appropriate position for his talent.

Either way, we won't be counting on a player like the Browns are in Lang to play a position he has not seen action at in 2 years.

This to me is a swap, Wynn for Lang. Lang is more athletic, but Wynn is bigger, stronger and more rugged.

In the end Lang felt comfortable reuniting with the Miami Hurricane Mafia in Cleveland and they did offer him the best deal he was going to get.

As with Barber, the talk of the $10 million bonus was evidently intended to just off put the Redskins as it was not in the end a realistic demand.

Am I surprised by the move? No. Most of the defensive ends coming out that may be available to the Skins in Round 1 and Round 2 are edge rushers and go rather light at 255-265.

Lewis needed to get someone in there bigger than Smith (265) and Coleman (267) to stop the run and present some pass rush ability.

Wynn fits that bill.

You weren't going to get an under 30 defensive lineman in free agency for much less than the $3.5 million that Wynn cost.

That is what Lang got. Joe Johnson of course got more. Sam Adams is looking for more. Even Steve Martin and Brandon Mitchell were looking for big numbers.

I think Coleman WILL be cut on June 1. We have to space out the cap hits for several players. This year we are eating up the rest of the money from the Sanders, Carrier and Jeff George mistakes.

Next year we will need to make plans for Bruce Smith's remaining bonus dollars.

If we wait to cut Coleman next offseason then we will have both coming at the same time.

Something the organization should look to avoid.

Dave hates the 3-4 it only works with pitt and probably the Texans because their ex steeler coach.

Wynn on the strongside Marco will be cut if we draft a DE like Kalimba or Freeney meaning we arent moving him to LDE to spell B Smith.

I'm totally ignorant about it.

TCO,

The "Deion" rule was written after Jones gave Sanders a $13 million bonus with $178,000 base contracts for the first three years of the deal. Essentially it just is a rule that states The the first three years of any player's salary must equal the prorated amount of the signing bonus.

So, even the way I stated it earlier wasn't completely right. The prorated amount of the signing bonus for Wynn is $3.5 million divided by six years, or approximately $583,000 a year. That means in the first three years of the deal Wynn has to have at least $583,000 times three, in base compensation.

In either case, this is pretty easily done. I imagine he's getting a bit more than just these base numbers, but, we'll see that soon enough.
