NFL should do away with Kickers/Punters

I'm sure half of you have heard this already, so bear with me, but there's some high school team that became pretty famous because its coach actually did get rid of the kicker and punter. They go for it virtually every time. (I think they run a few pooch punts in 4th-and-30 situations, and they obviously have someone to kick off, but you get the idea.) They've been very successful doing this, at least as of the last time I read about them.

And, of course, there are the numerous mathematicians/economists/etc. who have crunched the numbers and determined that it actually is more beneficial for teams to go for it on most fourth down situations past their own 30. These guys have been around for years, but they got their 15 minutes after Belichick's decision.

Yeah well, I am guessing that guy is going to stay a HS coach for life lol. To deliberatly announce you got rid of your kicker and punter is stupid at least keep it on the down low, I guess is not going to suprise to many opposing coaches. It would be ironic if he lost in the state championship by 3 points in the future. If the situation dictates it you go for it on 4th down then do it, if it doesnt you decide if you are going to try a fg you do it, or if it is too long you can punt the ball many variables can play into the situation but by removing your kicker and punter you just eliminated 2 of them... the guessing game for the opposition just got a little better.

Right, it's a good idea until it's our team that's got 4th and 15 from our own 3 yard line.

But if you're going to eliminate kickers/punters, then why even have a kickoff? To start each half, or after each score, the opposing team gets the ball at their own 20. Then there's no need at all of return specialists either. I bet there were a few teams a couple of years ago who would've loved to have never seen Devin Hester touch the ball....same with Dante Hall a few years before that.

So then, we can naturally get rid of PATs, which also eliminates the need for LS and holder. So nobody would ever have to worry about botched XPs, and teams would never need to worry about trying to block an PAT with the game on the line.

Finally somebody is getting the point.

I say we get rid of kickers, punters, long snappers, coaches, assistant coaches, coordinators...all that pansy ass ****.

Here's how a REAL "man's" football would be played:

Each team starts off on their own 20 yard line, and gets 10 "downs" (plays) to make it into the end zone. **** that wussy 1st down crappola...once you use up your 10 downs, that's it! If you didn't score in 10 plays the ball goes over to the other team's offense and they start on their 20 yard line (hell NO do they get to "take over" where the other team's offense stalled!!)...

Every TD is worth exactly ONE point...with no field goals or extra points, all scores will be 18-12, 30-24, 12-6...why require freakin' MATH just to watch the damn game?...From now on, it's 5-3, 3-2, 2-1....it's good enough for baseball, it's good enough for football!

No timeouts, no substitutions, no bathroom breaks (a real man can hold his urine!)...just play for 60 minutes straight. With no substitutions we can spread the top talent in the league around more evenly because we'd need fewer backups!!

Beer should be .50 cents...cheerleaders should be naked...guys with pork bellies get half off their admission...

THAT'S how you fix the footsball, son!

Thanks for the idea. Look out for me in 10 years. This sport will be in America before you know it.

To miss a 23 yarder in that spot is impossible to comprehend. Meanwhile opposing place kickers always do us in. So this idea sounds pretty good right now.

It doesn't even seem right to say the the Redskins lost yesterday. The Redskins had won the game! But somehow this one guy takes the W away from the whole team. It is impossible to understand how all these things could happen to this team.

This is not a knee jerk reaction to what happened Sunday I just don't like the way a game ends on a field goal. It really disheartening when it happens in a Superbowl. I mean that is a whole season down the drain because a kicker put you out. That just doesn't sit well with me.

Maybe I was off saying get rid of punting, but FG and extra points kill me.

That might turn every game into something like what colleges do for overtime now.

No thanks. I'm not crazy about FGs, but it makes for more strategy when your O drives within range. And punting is good for a team with a stout defense.

Wouldn't want to make the game shallower, by taking out those nuances.

Well that's 3 years away, and he needs to pad his resume'. So let him fix football, THEN he can fix America. It's a win-win.

How does a 2010 congressional seat sound then? :)

Unless you're a commie-lovin' Cowboys fan. You're not one of those are you? ;)
