Since the brutality and doldrums of the football 'dry season' are upon us, I'd be curious to know what other unusual websites you guys are passionate about (NAMBLA members need not respond)? I suspect we all have very definite surfing habits, and I'm always looking for a great new site. Here a just a few of my favorites:

1) http://imdb.com/

IMDB - Internet Movie Database. Not original perhaps, but I couldn't live without IMDB. As a serious movie buff, its the ultimate source of information, and even has a 'My Movies' section where you can keep an interactive log of movies you own.

2) http://classicscifi.com/

ClassicSciFi.com - Since I'm also a major horror/sci-fi fan, I love this site as it posts a 'what's on TV today?' listing of all horror/sci-fi flicks so you don't miss a classic you've waited years to see.

3) http://www.hammerfilms.com/

Hammerweb - Official website of Hammer Pictures which produced some of the great gothic horror of the 60's and 70's. If it had Christopher Lee or Peter Cushing in it, chances are Hammer produced it.

4) http://www.isons.com/index.html

Ison's Nursery - In addition to being a film buff, I'm a bigtime gardener. This is an outstanding nursery in Georgia, and has great customer service as well as offering many rare types of fruit and nut trees. Yeah, I know. And YES, I was kidding with the 'btw..I'm gay post'. Cut me some slack, its either gardening or Strip Clubs...and the wife says its gardening.

5) http://virginiasports.ocsn.com/multimedia/va-multimedia.html

UVA Live Sports Feeds - The only thing more painful than being a rabid Skins fan is being a wahoo-lover. I'm hopeful the pain is ending on both fronts. This website lets me tune in to live feeds for all sports events UVA when TV isn't an option.

6) http://www.turnerclassicmovies.com

TurnerClassicMovies - If you like old movies, TCM is your friend. Always has some interesting 'old movie' tidbits and a searchable schedule.

7) http://aacn.org/

AACN.org - The American Association of Critical Care Nurses. Since this is 'what I do', this website is an invaluable resource of medical information related to care of critically ill patients. Don't expect many here will care, but a great website.

8) http://www.nightgallery.net/index.html?title.html&0

Rod Serling's Night Gallery.net - a great website about one of my favorite cheesy (but often truly scary) 70's TV Shows!

9) http://www.carfax-abbey.com/

Carfax Abbey Horror Move Database - enough said.

How bout the rest of you?

When I was first venturing into cyberspace, I remember innocently asking someone if there was like a "table of contents" on line somewhere, a "site" or cyber card catalogue of just what was out there ... and getting one of the more condescending looks I've ever gotten in return.

"No, you moron, the internet's a massive, messy, unorganized free for all. You just gotta surf."

Wrong:

www.refdesk.com

Nice, thanks Om....I started this thread for purely selfish reasons (are there any other kind?) and its already paying off.

Now if you could access the Daily Babe from there, it would truly be the complete reference!

You can tell a lot about a person by checking their explorer history folder. Here are a few of my favorites:

toshistation.com - StarWars and Kung Fu

Toms Hardware - Articles on PC gear

CNET - News, Reviews, Ratings on anything electronic

pricewatch.com - find the lowest prices on the web for computer components.

Dictionary.com - The Dictionary - a must have, and easy to remember. Related to Thesaurus.com

You just KNOW some people are leaving off some sites they frequent quite regularly.

You just know it!

This is a great thread. I'm bookmarking some of these and broadening my horizons. Thank God for that Al Gore ... inventing this thing! :)

Just signed up over the last couple of weeks at Poker Paradise. Online poker games. I was pretty wary but you can play at "play money" tables for as long as you like.

I've learned more about "Hold 'em" in the last 10 days than over years of playing with my (drunken) friends and watching countless hours of tournaments on ESPN and the Travel Channel.

Real money games vary from 50 cents to no limit.

Haven't ventured there yet ... but it's inevitable. :)
