Capt Rich Fla
While bringing a newly purchased boat from Galeston to Palm Beach on Saturday My friend LINDSEY FORD fell overboard while in transit at night. He was never found. Alot of times when we travel we have to travel at night. His new boss was asleep in the salon of his new boat and Lindsey was driving. About 3 or 4 in the morning his boss went up to the bridge to see how he was doing and found no one. His boss turned the boat around and followed the line left on the GPS, but to no avail. The coast guard has also searched for two days now and I'm pretty sure he is in Gods hands now. He must have come off the bridge to relieve himself (PEE) over the back of the boat. I know it was rough that night. This is a practice I don't let people do. The boat can lurch and jump and throw you off balance. At night it is a little disorienting even for seasoned pros. I can only guess this is what happened though. If you don't have a partner up there with you, no one is there to see you fall over. Lindsey was a hell of a fisherman and a real good captain. These things happen to us alot, but doesn't make it any easier on his family I'm sure. We work and live on one of Gods most powerful creations. As beautiful as the ocean is, it has no mercy. We will all remember you Lindsey. Rest in peace my friend........... (Boy, I'm just full of good news lately, huh?)

One Shot
That's a terrible tragedy. Totally unexpected things like that are always the worst....things you feel like you could have prevented somehow. R.I.P Lindsey

Tarhog
Very sad, I've always thought that would be such a lonely way to go. You'd have so much time to think about your loss and feel the regret of what you weren't going o live to experience. Sorry to hear that, always sad to lose a friend. Yeah, the B**** of it is that last year he had a life threatening stroke. After it happened you could hand him a glass of water and he didn't know wether to drink it or **** in it. The DRs all said he's finished, but he came around and bounced back, to the surprise of us all. After that he was uncontrolable in the ocean. You didn't want to be a tuna or marlin any where around him. The man was on to it! Then this, WTF! It just goes to show you, when it's your time it's your time. We will put together something for his kids though. Unfortunately, they now have a legacy in this business. He was a good man. I hope and pray everytime I leave the dock that something doesn't happen to me and I leave my kids like that. (you got the number for that truck driving school?) THE SAILOR'S LAMENTON A SAILOR'S GRAVE, NO ROSES GROW, NO GRASS, NO STONE TO SHOW THE RESTING PLACE THAT WILL ALWAYS BE, HIS BILLET IN THE SEA THE SILENT SHARK STANDS WATCH, FOR ALL ETERNITY SO LONELY HE WILL NEVER BE, IN THAT BILLET IN THE SEA HE SALLIED FORTH WHILE YOUNG AT HEART TO SAIL UPON THE SEA TO FALL IN LOVE WITH A MIGHTY SHIP, A MISTRESS THAT WILL ALWAYS BE STRONG IN HIS HEART SHE TREATS HIM WELL, AWAY FROM LAND THAT HE FINDS HELL SO SHARE HIM WELL LASSIE, SOME THINGS JUST HAVE TO BE "A SAILOR'S PLACE IS ON HIS SHIP, AND THE SHIP MUST SAIL THE SEA" FROM NORFOLK EAST TO HONG KONG WEST, THE OCEANS HE DID ROAM ON TOP OF WAVES AND UNDERNEATH, HE ALWAYS FELT AT HOME THE PLEASURES SOUGHT IN FAR OFF PARTS, WOULD MAKE SOME SALTY TALES WITH "YOU SPEAK JOE" AND THE FEEL GOOD PITCH AS THE LADIES MADE THEIR SALES WHEN SAFE ON BOARD AND LEAVING HE KNEW IT HAD TO BE "A SAILOR'S PLACE IS ON HIS SHIP, AND THE SHIP MUST SAIL THE SEA" WHILE ONCE ON SHORE, HIS PLACE OF BIRTH HE TRAVELED BACK TO SEE HE FELL IN LOVE WITH A PRETTY LASS, HIS BRIDE SHE CAME TO BE HE WANDERED HOW TO TELL HER WHILE SITTING AT THE PIER HIS OTHER LOVE WAS WAITING, THE CRUISE TO LAST A YEAR NO TEARS WERE SHED AS FAREWELLS WERE SAID, SHE KNEW IT HAD TO BE "A SAILOR'S PLACE IS ON HIS SHIP, AND THE SHIP MUST SAIL THE SEA" AS YEARS WENT BY THEY LEARNED TO SHARE, A LIFE UNIQUE TO FEW HE GAVE HIS ALL WHEN OUT TO SEA AND DID THE SAME ASHORE SHE BECAME BOTH MOM AND POP, AND HAD TO LEARN MUCH MORE TO FIX THE CAR, TO STOP THE LEAK, DON'T LET THE CHILDREN ROAM FOR SUCH IT WAS THOSE LONELY DAYS WHEN HE WAS NOT AT HOME THEY TRAVELED FAR WITH SUDDEN MOVES, BUT KNEW IT HAD TO BE "A SAILOR'S PLACE IS ON HIS SHIP, AND THE SHIP MUST SAIL THE SEA" RETIREMENT YEARS HAD COME AND GONE, JUST ONE LAST CRUISE TO TAKE, NO BAGS TO PACK, NO CIGARETTES, AND NO MORE PORTS TO MAKE SO LOVED ONES SHED NO TEARS TODAY, THIS IS WHERE HE WANTS TO BE, JUST FOREVER CRUISING THE WAVES, WAY DOWN BENEATH THE SEA CAUSE ON A SAILOR'S GRAVE, NO ROSES GROW, NO GRASS, NO STONE TO SHOW THE RESTING PLACE THAT WILL ALWAYS BE HIS BILLET IN THE SEA THE SILENT SHARK STANDS WATCH, FOR ALL ETERNITY SO LONELY HE WILL NEVER BE, IN THAT BILLET IN THE SEA UNKNOWN A Sailors Lament Gulls have pecked my eyes out, fish have cleaned my bones - A man`s recycled this way, in the locker of D. Jones, Me and many shipmates, all were heaven sent, To cross the bar in silence - in liquid monument, Finished with our human form and all the earthly strife, Now biding midst the briny in our salty afterlife, Whether you just paddle, or sail across the sea, Please treat the water kindly - for it could be partly me! Capt Rich Fla
Thanks OM, I've seen alot of poems over the years, but for some reason that first one escaped me. If you could PM me that one I would like to print it out and place it at a memorial in the Bahamas with my friends picture. It will get alot of reads. Thanks again.
