05/02/07 - Spring Grove High graduate Jim Shaw will spend this weekend trying to make the Washington Redskins. The former Penn State defensive end was not picked in the NFL Draft. And he was not immediately signed as a free agent on Sunday night or Monday. But he was invited to join about 60 other undrafted prospects Friday through Sunday at a Redskins rookie camp in hopes of being offered a contract. Washington has already signed nine undrafted rookie free agents, from Connecticut running back Terry Caulley to Maryland quarterback Sam Hollenbach. Shaw chose the Redskins' rookie camp offer over those from the Chicago Bears and Detroit Lions. "They'll bring him in, and he'll be a part of the team like everyone else," said Robert Walker, Shaw's North Carolina-based agent. "They'll work him out and evaluate him closer. "He's got an opportunity, and that's what we wanted. É He can be coached by a hall-of-fame coach and be close to home." - The Evening Sun

Name: Kyle Young (Suspended, Academics)

College: Fresno State Number: 59

Height: 6-5 Weight: 328

Position: C Pos2: OG

Class/Draft Year: Sr/2007

40 Time: 5.44 40 Low: 5.36 40 High: 5.64

Projected Round: Stock:

Rated number out of 74 C's / 2378 TOTAL

03/09/07 - Former Fresno State lineman Kyle Young returned to the Bulldogs' practice field Thursday for the first time in four months, there to participate in the NFL Pro Day after failing to receive an invitation to last month's NFL combine. The last time Young practiced at Fresno State was in November before getting suspended for the final four games of his career because of academics. Young returned looking bigger, but not necessarily better. He measured in at 6 feet, 5 inches and 353 pounds -- 23 pounds heavier than his listed playing weight. He did look stronger -- bench-pressing 225 pounds 23 times (about midrange compared to the marks set by linemen at the NFL combine). He also looked slower -- unofficially running the 40-yard dash at 5.57 on one run. Most importantly to Young, though, was that he was being looked at with roughly 20 NFL scouts and six NFL assistants attending the annual draft-preparation event.

Young, along with roughly 15 other former Fresno State players or Fresno-area athletes who participated in the Pro Day, simply wanted to catch an NFL scout's eye. "Today was pretty important, show what I have in front of everybody," Young said afterward. "If you didn't go to the combine, this is the time to impress." Why Young, a four-year starter for the Bulldogs, didn't get invited to last month's combine in Indianapolis remains a mystery to him. His theory? His suspension cost him an invite, which was awarded to roughly 350 players in the nation. His agent, Justin Shulman of Athletes First, believes the suspension has brought up unwarranted character issues about Young. - Bryant-Jon Anteola, The Fresno Bee

02/13/07 - STOCK FALLING: Hailed by many as the top center prospect in the country, the 6-5, 328-pounder flashed dominating power and started 47 consecutive games for the Bulldogs. Young was suspended for the final four games of his senior season due to academics, however, and surprisingly was not among those initially invited to the Combine.

01/17/07 - East-West Shrine, "NFL Day" Practice: Another interior lineman who helped himself this week was Fresno State's Kyle Young. Among the most dominant linemen in the WAC over his four year career with the Bulldogs, Young was suspended from the team due to academics and was surprisingly not invited to the Combine. Young, listed at 6-5, 330 pounds is massive -- perhaps even too massive to remain at center -- and was among the most imposing opponents for defensive linemen. He could be beaten with quickness, but if he got his hands on the defender, he typically won the battle and even pancaked a defender, an extreme rarity in these drills.

So basically the dude is huge but otherwise he's not much of an athlete.

Chech out this article on Jimmy Shaw the DE Draftdaddy.com says we signed.

http://www.ydr.com/psu/ci_5678326

He's earned starting spots. He's made impact plays. He is a weightlifting fiend, who bench pressed 225 pounds at least 35 times in front of pro scouts recently - the best total in the nation by a defensive end, he was told.

His short-shuttle run times (which gauge a player's ability to change direction) were beaten by only two defensive ends at February's NFL Combine, according to his North Carolina-based agent, Robert Walker. Somebody just has to take a chance on him.

There are some intriguing guys coming to this camp. It will be interesting to see which of these undrafted guys stick. There's Hickman with 12.5 sacks...and Jesse Wendt 6'3 WR running a 4.32...Young and Sun have good size and pretty decent reports for OL....Then the speedy little guys, Caulley and Mason...

only played 2 games in college. And that was at the community college level. Originally recruited by Oklahoma State, but grades were too low, then dropped out of CC because of grades. Have had some run ins with the cops.

But he can do a backflip

Sounds like the Mike Tyson of football....maybe Greg Williams could be his D'Amato...

C'mon they had him running against the wind :D but yeah, probably just huge.

'Course, if a stiff breeze is enough to affect his routes, that could indicate another problem. :)

(Although I'll admit that the thought of a 6' 9" "dumpoff receiver" does have an appeal.)
