From Don Banks column....nothing really new on the trade situation, but includes some very interesting quotes from Gibbs:

Though the Redskins are more than willing to do the dance, any potential trade for disgruntled Bears linebacker Lance Briggs is going to require clearing significant hurdles on Chicago's end. At the NFC head coaches media breakfast Wednesday at the Arizona Biltmore, Washington's Joe Gibbs said nothing is "imminent'' in terms of swinging a deal for Briggs, because "everybody's got to keep talking about it and saying does it work?''

Gibbs said Washington, which holds the No. 6 pick in next month's draft, has had serious trade conversations with three teams in addition to Chicago: Two of those scenarios involve the Redskins moving up in the draft, and the other moving down, in addition to the Briggs talks. Washington is willing to flop first-round draft slots with Chicago (No. 31) in exchange for Briggs, who requested to be traded or released after the Bears applied their franchise tag to him this offseason, effectively keeping him off the free-agent market.

A league source I talked to said the Bears "have things to overcome'' before consummating a deal with Washington, and that the likelihood of Briggs eventually joining the Redskins isn't high. The following issues concern Chicago:

The Bears aren't sure they want to move up to the No. 6 slot in the draft, which entails a much bigger financial commitment than staying at No. 31. Chicago also wants time to study the potential prospects available in the top 10, to ensure that there's a player special enough to justify the move. And lastly, the Bears aren't happy that Briggs' agent, Drew Rosenhaus, came to Phoenix to instigate the trade talks with Washington, believing it casts them in the role of being dictated to by a player and his agent.

"If there is a trade, that would just give any other Bears player who was unhappy a blueprint of what to do in order to get the outcome they wanted,'' the source said. "That's good for the player and the agent, but not for the Bears. So even if Washington's offer was attractive, that may end up nixing any chance of a trade.''

The Redskins' preference is to move back in the first round, but Gibbs conceded that with so many teams wanting to move down in the draft, it would likely be easier for Washington to move up. How the Redskins would manage that isn't clear. Washington has no second-, third- or fourth-round picks this year, and Gibbs said the Redskins are committed to keeping their 2008 draft choices intact.

"From what you hear, your best bargains this year will be in the second round,'' Gibbs said. "That's where a lot of the players are. It's almost as if once you get past all the hype of the first round, that's where all the guys that you want will be.''

That last quote sounds like he's making a case for getting the #31 pick...

What is with all these Gibbs comments? Is he trying to mislead the media or the fans? :whoknows:

No kidding. No other front office talks as much. It's either all a smokescreen or he needs to learn the words "no comment."

This is no different from most other years Joe!!!:)

I love it

I love Joe Gibbs

I love the Redskins

Media Lightning Rod

Rosensleaze is a genius. I hope he reads this somehow, between banging the 4 "escorts" that are probably hanging out at his house with him right now. Push Button National Media. Thats power. I want him to be my agent.

I doubt Rosenhaus has to pay for it.

I know Gibbs talks in riddles much of the time, but this statement takes the cake. What the heck is this man trying to say?

Bear fan here in peace. I don't see Angelo jumping on this trade quickly. Knowing Angelo he is burning up the telephone wires attempting to find out what he can get for the 6th pick. Angelo likes to trade down and stock up on picks. He has done a great job finding guys in the 3rd and 4th rds.

There is no way he is going to just jump on this just because it is the 6th pick. If he can't find a dancing partner he ain't dancing. They don't want an early 1st rd pick due to cap implications. He would rather get two players lower in the draft and make them cap friendly.

Also, I believe Angelo wants more than the 6th. He would probably take it and a later rd pick as well.

Finally, I am glad he is sticking to his guns at this point. It would set a bad precedent for a personnel guy to let an agent bullying them. In the future every agent would think they could play hardball with Angelo.

There are a number of players coming up for contracts that he would like to resign and that is another reason the 6th pick would be traded by Bears if this deal goes thru.

As far as Briggs is concerned, he has put up impressive tackle #s but has had the luxury of playing behind a great d line who keeps guys off of him and playing next to Urlacher. Briggs has talent but is not the end all be all. He is not a very good blitzer and was scorched many times in coverage.

Every team knows there are not many elite defenders in this draft. It sucks to tell you the truth.

Most drafts have an elite corner or two. Most drafts have at least 1 elite defensive end.

This draft seems like a crap shoot on defense. A Jamal Anderson might fall to 20 or even higher.

All the elite talent seems to be on offense with guys like CJ, Quinn, Russle ,Peterson.

John Keim is reporting the Bears would want McIntosh as well. They really like him apparently.

The deal is about to be dead. The Bears do not want to give a pro bowl linebacker for the 6th pick. The 6th pick has little value unless they parley it up to 1 or 2.

The only guys that make sense for them are CJ and Quinn. Both will probaly not be at 6.

Thats why it Gibbs is saying its hard to trade down. 6 is not a hot spot. 1 or 2 is for CJ.

Sounds like to me that he'd rather trade down and get a 2nd round pick this year, which can be done by sliding out of the #6 to say #9-12
