rebornempowered
What the heck? A 49ers fan site is reporting Bengals.com is reporting the 49ers have signed Clements. This internets stuff is going to far!
waterwagen
I'm sorry, but $23 million guaranteed, up-front is way too much money for a CB. Wow.

Skins4481
23 million guaranteed may be a lot for a top notch corner but I'd rather be the 49ers and be paying Nate Clements 23 mil guaranteed than be the Washington Dumbass Redskins and be paying Adam Archuleta, Brandon Lloyd and Antwaan Randle El 30 million. Clements @ 23 mil>Archuleta,Lloyd,Randle El @ 30 mil.
Mr. S
if the only link is from PFT, then it's crap. They reported taht we signed Samari Rolle and it was a done deal in 2005.
HEavyJumbo85
damn that was real quick for him 23 million and he didn't sign at 12:01? I'd say that's slow for 23 million

Clements @ 23 mil>Archuleta,Lloyd,Randle El @ 30 mil. The key word is guaranteed. Archuleta, Lloyd, and Randle El got $30 million deals, "only" about $10 million of which was guarateed. Clements is getting almost 2.5 times the guaranteed amount, assuming that report is correct.

skinsfannyc76
I hope this is true--Clements would have commanded just too much money for the 'Skins this year. Let's continue to focus on bringing in impact FAs at a reasonable price...

Bingo. Smoot is a nickel guy, not a starting corner. We now pretty much officially have no #1 CB...other than Springs who can't stay healthy for even half a season. We better hope we get a pass rushing demon in the draft.

A lot of people said this in '04 when Springs came here. With Springs and Smoot we managed to have the best defense in the NFC, and third overall in the NFL. As long as we address the needs on the D-line, Smoot and Rogers will be fine.

Actually it is the opposite of that situation. Springs came here to be the #1 top tier CB that we were lacking. He did that briefly before becoming an injury magnet again.
