Well...from what I have heard, I am happy that I did not order it. I figured that it was not going to be a great card. Probably the fight I cared about most was the Marquardt-Sonnen fight. And I am terribly disappointed with the outcome. Is anyone excited to see Sonnen-Anderson Silva? Hendo is either laughing, or pissed right now.

Actually I guess he is happy since he is a teammate of Sonnen.

I did not see anything, so what did Coleman say about Tito?

He must train his head movement with Big Nog.

Yeah I agree no one wants to see Sonnen fight Anderson. I think the UFC (along with every fan) thought this would be Marquardt's last step to getting a title shot. You know Hendo has to be a little irritated right now because he'd probably be the #1 contender after the Vitor fight.

And honestly aside from Marquardt, Hendo's the only person I can think of at 185 that I even care to see fight Anderson. Maybe Wandy if he destroys Bisping but at this point in his career, he's not really a challenge for Anderson.

As a big Wandy fan, I would certainly love to see him demolish Bisping and fight Anderson. But you are right, I would not really give him much of a chance to win. There sure would be some fireworks for at least a few minutes.

I am just trying to imagine the UFC trying to sell a Silva-Sonnen (or a Sonnen-Belfort) PPV main event. I mean, congrats to Sonnen, he just had a very impressive win, but a lot of people do not know him.

Speaking of middleweights, where the hell has Akiyama been?

And here's that Dan Miller guillotine choke that Joe Rogan was talking about:

I thought he was exaggerating but damn it's brutal! Looks like the guy's neck is broken!

seriously, how is dude's neck not broken after something like that? it hurts just to watch it

Wandy said he has no desires to fight Anderson since they made up. thats probably best for his long term health anyway.

Sonnen will sell the fight himself, i'm sure he's going to say some pretty ridiculous **** leading up to that, hell he already has. fighting anderson is hard enough, fighting a pissed off & offended anderson might as well be a death sentence.

not sure where Akiyama is, he must be hurt because he hasnt fought since ufc 100

I didn't have internet yesterday or I'd have been here for the fights. I was bored by most of them. Sonnen shocked me and that guy that fought Brian Stann is a beast. Coleman should hang 'em up. No shame.

I have to say I was expecting Guillard to get choked out on Saturday night but he looked better than I've ever seen him. Fighters consistently get better when they hookup with Jackson's camp. There's something about the way he runs his organization that improves guys' games.

UFC 109's Melvin Guillard says he's a new fighter following Team Jackson affiliation

by Dann Stupp on Feb 07, 2010 at 12:35 pm ET

Following a hard-fought decision victory over Brazilian jiu-jitsu ace Ronys Torres at Saturday's "UFC 109: Relentless" event, Melvin Guillard said he now considers himself a fighter with a 1-0 career record.

So why would the 26-year-old turn his back on the past eight years and 33 other career bouts?

It's simple, Guillard. He's a different fighter now that he's hooked up with trainer Greg Jackson. Even UFC president Dana White sees a drastically different future for the promising lightweight.

Guillard, who's been considered one of the UFC's most promising fighters since appearing on "The Ultimate Fighter 2," has all the raw skills to be one of the lightweight division's best. But he often struggled with submission defense, in-cage decision-making and sometimes his opponents' head games. If you could beat him mentally – something fighters such as Nate Diaz, Joe Stevenson and Rich Clementi did – Guillard could often be beaten in the cage, as well.

But on Saturday during Spike TV's "UFC Prelims" pay-per-view teaser, Guillard looked perhaps his best ever. He striking – always powerful – was crisper. His takedown defense was solid. And never had he been able to get back to his feet so easily. Every aspect of his game improved.

Between rounds, Jackson, who runs the highly respected Jackson's Submission Fighting training camp in Albuquerque, N.M., calmly laid out game plans for Guillard. More importantly, Jackson told him what was working and offered positive reinforcement.

"As far as I'm concerned, I'm a 1-0 fighter," Guillard said after the fight. "The fights before this I relied on my talent, but now I have a great coach and a great team."

Guillard posted a solid 22-8-2 record (5-4 in the UFC) prior to UFC 109 and suffered a loss to Diaz in his previous outing. Like all but one of his other career losses, it, too, came via submission – which have proven to be Guillard's Achilles' heel.

Prior to his return at UFC 109, Guillard told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) that Jackson's teaching style has worked perfectly for him.

"I think with Coach Greg, it's the way he comes off in the mental part of the game," Guillard said. "He's a sentimental-type guy. He has that approach like, 'We're going to do this. This is the gameplan.' Just the way that he talks to you and the way he gives you that respect – not only as a fighter, but as a person and a man – it's phenomenal.

"I'm not taking anything from Coach Saul (Soliz). When I was with Coach Saul in Houston, I had a good run. Training was good. I was able to keep afloat in the UFC. But Coach Jackson just takes it to a whole new level."

With four victories in his past five fights, a quickly improving overall game, and Saturday's demonstration that he can hang with a submission specialist for a full 15-minute fight, Guillard is even making a believer out of his UFC boss.

"Melvin Guillard has always been one of those kids that isn't living up to his potential," White said. "That kid is so athletic, so explosive, great on the ground, great wrestling, great standup, has knockout power.

"(On) ... 'The Ultimate Fighter' season two, his first fight was with (Josh) Burkman. They fight that fight, Burkman wins, submits him, but breaks his hand in the fight. So at that time, the way that we did the show, those guys were kicked out. They go to another house, and they could do whatever they wanted to. These guys are going out at night. [Expletive] Melvin Guillard has jewelry on and everything else and telling all the ladies he's a TV star and [expletive]."

White said it became Guillard's M.O. early in his UFC career.

"Melvin's been doing that stuff since Day One," White said. "If this kid would buckle down, take this thing seriously – he's an incredible athlete. So hopefully now down there with Greg Jackson and his crew, that's the guy Melvin Guillard is going to become.

"Let me tell you, he fought a tough kid tonight. That was a war. If this other fight (Chael Sonnen vs. Nate Marquardt) wasn't that great, that could have been up for the 'Fight of the Night' (award) too."

Yep, he looked great Saturday night. That was a tough fight, and his mental game was better than I have ever seen it. He fought calmer and was much more patient than I have ever seen him. He has always had the talent, and was always an exciting fighter, but he seemed to be missing some of the intangibles.

Every time he ended up on the ground, I was a little concerned. But he was a lot more patient than I have ever seen him and he waited for his opportunity to use his power and explosiveness to get up.

I had never seen that Guillard before. That Guillard would have probably won some of the other fights that he has lost recently.

Sonnen is probably one of my top 3 most hated fighters but he knows how to work the heel angle pretty well. Maybe he should've been a Professional Wrestler?

Chael Sonnen: Vitor Belfort is tougher fight than champ Anderson Silva

by Steven Marrocco on Feb 09, 2010 at 9:00 am ET

West Linn, Ore.'s Chael Sonnen (24-10-1 MMA, 4-3 UFC) played the perfect politician on Saturday night.

After dominating anointed contender Nate Marquardt at UFC 109 on Feb. 6, Sonnen talked up his donor and picked a fight with someone across the aisle.

"I hope Anderson (Silva) wins (at UFC 112) because I think Vitor (Belfort) is a lot tougher fighter," Sonnen said after UFC 109. "If I had to choose between the two, I'm going to take the low road and take the easier opponent to the championship."

Sonnen, who a day before the fight announced he is running for an Oregon state senate seat, got big laughs for that one.

Silva, of course, was a regular target of Sonnen in the build-up to Saturday’s fight with the usually mild-mannered Sonnen enjoying potshots at the middleweight champion’s language skills (he said Silva actually speaks English and only pretends he doesn't to toy with the media and fans) and dress.

True or not, the statements drew an immense amount of interest in Sonnen vs. Marquardt, the co-main event of UFC 109.

So big was the attention that Sonnen said the talk about Silva had drawn attention away from Marquardt. Either way, he couldn't find much to dislike about the one-time middleweight contender and one-time training partner.

The debate had simply shifted.

One interested party in Silva vs. Sonnen is UFC president Dana White, who prior to the fight promised the winner of Sonnen vs. Marquardt a title shot. White spoke of Sonnen's transformation from dark horse to serious prospect in the past year.

"Now there's another guy that's interesting and exciting and brings something different into the fight that people can look at," White said. "Man, if he gets this thing to the ground, this is going to be an interesting fight. He popped out of nowhere, and it's a beautiful thing."

The UFC president had no buyer's remorse about his earlier promise.

"He came out of nowhere, was in the WEC, then came over here (to the UFC) and has blown a lot of people away," White said.

Sonnen took another small potshot by picking Belfort to defeat Silva.

"I really do think Vitor Belfort, in truth, has never lost a fight in the stand-up realm," Sonnen said. "The blueprint to beat Vitor is out there, but it's not to stand up with him."

One of Sonnen's old teammates at Team Quest, Randy Couture, might take exception to that statement after out-striking Belfort at UFC 15, but that wasn't the point.

Sonnen got people to care.

He praised the UFC for giving him the platform to fight high-level competitors such as Dan Miller, Yushin Okami and Marquardt, whom he's all defeated.

"Look, at the end of the day, if you want to get to the top of the card in the UFC, you've got to fight tough guys," Sonnen said. "If you want to be a fighter and get in the cage and be a big deal at your local strip club, go to Showtime."

The pressroom erupted once again with laughter with Sonnen's jab at UFC rival Strikeforce, which airs on the premium-cable station. It was money in the bank.

"I couldn't have said that one better myself," White said between laughs.

Thus far, the middleweight champion has let his manager, Ed Soares, do the talking for him.

"If you walk down the street and you mention [sonnen's] name, does anyone really know who this guy is?" Soares told Sportsnet.ca on Tuesday. "Likely not, but if you mention Anderson Silva, people know the name.

"Chael's said a few things about Anderson's choice of clothes and that he wears earrings, didn't he? Sounds to us like he may have a crush on Anderson."

While Silva was not the only casualty in Sonnen's recent campaign, he may have something to say about it soon. Will it be in English?

Sonnen votes yes.

http://www.sherdog.com/news/news/Reljic-Doctors-Said-Id-Never-Fight-Again-22559

636 days. That's how long it will be between fights for Goran Reljic when he makes his return against C.B. Dollaway at UFC 110 on Feb. 20 at the Acer Arena in Sydney, Australia.

“I had a long layoff,” Reljic told the Sherdog Radio Network's “Beatdown” show recently. “I had surgery on my back and I had some other issues in my life. Now everything is taken care of and I'm back.”

But it's not nearly as simple as the 25-year-old Croatian makes it sound. A herniated disc put the undefeated fighter on the shelf following his Octagon debut against Wilson Gouveia at UFC 84 in May 2008. Further complications put Reljic at an even greater risk.

“I've been doing a lot of physical therapy since the surgery and getting my body back into shape,” Reljic said. “Doctors actually told me I'll never fight again, but I love to prove people wrong and now I'm back. I can't wait to step inside and fight again.”

If Reljic seems a bit dismissive about his whole ordeal it's because he was never really worried about it. In fact, if anything, he was defiant.

“I said to them, ‘I'm going to show you who's not going to be capable of coming back to the sport. I'm going to show you that you're wrong.’” Said Reljic. “I said (that) to them in their face. I told them I'm going to prove you wrong and that's what I did. Look where I am now. I'm coming back. I feel great. I have a heart. I never quit and I proved them all wrong.”

While on hiatus back in his homeland, Reljic re-evaluated his regime. He focused on his diet, stretching, yoga, and meditation. He also contemplated his UFC debut, which he wasn’t particularly pleased with technically.

“People thought I was a standup fighter when I first showed up in the UFC,” Reljic said, “I'm not. I'm a grappler. I came from a jiu-jitsu background. I've been working on my wrestling a lot, and like I said, you've got to work for everything. Absolutely everything. You can never say, ‘I have a good standup; I'm going to do wrestling. I don't need to do standup anymore.’ Or ‘I'm going to do jiu-jitsu and I'm not going to do standup.’ You have to improve on everything and that's the way it goes.”

Reljic sees no other option as a mixed martial artist.

“I think that's the way you have to think,” said Reljic. “I think that a man needs to think like that. I think you have to be open-minded and I think you have to look at the things in a way that you always can improve. You have to be ever improving and ever evolving. Quite frankly, in MMA, if you don't think like that, you're not for that. That's the attitude you got to have.”

In Dollaway, Reljic sees a well-rounded challenger.

“C.B. is a great fighter,” said Reljic. “He's a great wrestler. He has solid standup skills as well. I think he mixes it up all together pretty good. I just think we're going to put on a great show for the crowd and I hope everybody's going to see what they expect and everybody's going to be satisfied.”

he looked pretty good in his 1 UFC fight, its impossible to know how he'll do after such a long layoff though

Just saw that.

I say give Anderson a 205 striker. He has been preparing for a striker. No one at 185 who deserves a title shot can be ready in time. Maybe a 195 catch-weight since Anderson has probably been staying slimmer than he would for a 205 fight.

That's a perfect comeback fight for Rampage. And with BJ Penn, Matt Hughes and Renzo Gracie on that card, it would be one of the UFC's best sellers of all time.

http://mmajunkie.com/news/17931/demian-maia-agrees-to-replace-vitor-belfort-will-face-anderson-silva-at-ufc-112.mma

The guesswork of the past 24 hours can finally cease.

Demain Maia (12-1 MMA, 6-1 UFC) has agreed to replace an ailing Vitor Belfort and will now face UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva (25-4 MMA, 10-0 UFC) in the main event of UFC 112 in Abu Dhabi.

The UFC officially announced the replacement on Friday, ending a day of speculation by MMA observers and fans alike.

UFC 112 takes place April 10 at Concert Arena at the Ferrari World theme park on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. It is the first UFC event to be held in the Middle East, and the first event to take place outdoors.

Maia emerged from a crowded pool of UFC contenders on the strength of a UFC 109 win over Dan Miller this past Saturday. Despite a loss to Nate Marquardt at UFC 102, UFC brass deemed Maia the best available option.

Chael Sonnen had laid his claim to top-contender status with a dominating victory over Marquardt at UFC 109, but injuries suffered in the bout left him unavailable for a fight with Silva.

"It's always tough when a top fighter like Vitor Belfort has to pull out of a big title fight, but we have found a high quality replacement," UFC president Dana White stated in today's release. "Top contender Chael Sonnen was not available due to injuries sustained in his fight with Nate Marquardt, so top-six middleweight Demian Maia will step in to fight for the title.

"Maia is an Abu Dhabi grappling champion, a five-time Brazilian jiu-jitsu world champion, and he is 12-1 in MMA and coming off a win over Dan Miller at UFC 109. Anderson Silva vs. Demian Maia will be a matchup between MMA's best striker and MMA's best grappler."

Maia is currently under medical suspension from the Nevada State Athletic Commission until Aug. 6 due to an left vertical upper eyelid laceration. However, Maia was not issued a minimum suspension, and he can be cleared early by an ophthalmologist or ocular-plastics doctor.

Maia wasn't immediately available for comment when contacted by MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com), but the UFC obviously feels confident the wound will receive clearance.

While Abu Dhabi does not have an athletic commission in place to regulate the event, the UFC acts as its own governing body and does observe the rules and regulations set forth by most U.S.-based commissions, including the NSAC.

Silva and Maia will fight in UFC 112's main event in a bout the organization is billing as "MMA's best striker vs. MMA's best grappler."

Belfort's return to date from the shoulder surgery that forced him out of the contest has not yet been announced. Belfort's manager, Fabiano Farah, today told MMAjunkie.com he expected his client to miss at least four months of action.

this better not end up like Silva/Leites

Anderson trains with people as good as Maia on the ground (like Jacare & Andre Galvao), but its going to be close to impossible for Maia to get someone imitate Anderson's standup
