This is great...there are a lot of excellent fights coming up.

I am intrigued to see who Strikeforce has Fedor and Hendo matched up with on the CBS card in April, but regardless, the first four months of 2010 should have some great fights. Let's hope injuries do not derail some of these bouts.

That's what I was gonna say, as long as this freak injury bug stays away then we'll be good this spring.

http://mmajunkie.com/news/17239/ufc-vet-din-thomas-signs-with-shine-fights-likely-to-meet-boxer-ricardo-mayorga.mma

UFC veteran Din Thomas (24-8) has signed with the rookie Shine Fights promotion and is expected to make his promotional debut in March 2010, promotion officials today announced.

Today's release included a quote in which Thomas called out boxing champ Ricardo Mayorga (0-0), who recently signed with Shine Fights to make his MMA debut.

While Thomas vs. Mayorga is expected to take place on the promotion's next card, company officials told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) bout agreements have not been signed.

Terms of Thomas' deal and details of the organization's next show were not announced.

"I signed my contract to fight, and I'm happy," Thomas stated. "Now if Mayorga would just put the Weed Eater down for a minute and scribble his name on the dots, we'd have a fight."

Thomas, a cast member on "The Ultimate Fighter 4" who went 5-4 during three stints with the UFC, has won five of his past seven fights. The American Top Team fighter most recently defeated Dustin Pieken and Gabe Lemley in February and March, respectively, following his release from the UFC.

Mayorga, a 35-year-old native of Nicaragua, debuted professionally as a boxer in 1993. He hit his stride from 1999 to 2003 by going 16-0-1 with 13 knockouts. He concluded the streak with a TKO of Vernon Forrest for the WBC/WBA welterweight belt and won the rematch via majority decision six months later. (Forrest was 35-0 entering their first meeting.)

Since then, though, Mayorga has alternated between wins and losses and is just 3-4 in his past seven fights. He most recently suffered a 12th-round knockout loss to Shane Mosley in September 2008.

Thomas joins a quickly growing Shine Fights roster that includes recent additions Alexander Shlemenko, Luiz Azeredo and Murilo "Ninja" Rua.

Mayorga is the highest profile boxer to actually sign to a MMA fight. he was always more of a brawler than a boxer, but he was a legit champ with sick power that will be even more pronounced with 4oz gloves.

Thomas would be a fool to even think about testing Mayorga's hands. i'm not trying to see a repeat of Timmay/Mercer

I agree big time. Mayorga should also be wary of high kicks but I'm very much in agreement that the fists of a true slugger are beyond deadly and 4oz gloves will make his jabs knock people out.

http://www.sherdog.com/news/news/Cristiane-Cyborg-Could-Pose-for-Playboy-21602

Since stopping Gina Carano in August, Cristiane "Cyborg" Santos has been moving to the forefront of women’s MMA. In addition to winning a title belt and plenty of praise, she has received coverage in various MMA and fitness magazines. One offer from outside the industry caught her by surprise, though: an invitation to pose for Playboy.

“Actually we are still talking, and I’m thinking about that possibility,” she said. “After all, only one man saw me naked in my entire life and I have to think deeply about that.”

Cyborg returns to MMA on Jan. 30 in Sunrise, Fla., where she’ll defend her Strikeforce women’s title against Marloes Coenen.

“I’m pretty much focused on the training,” she said. “I’ve trained so hard to get this belt, I’ll do anything to keep it with me.”

Cyborg would not compare Coenen to Gina Carano, whom she defeated to win the title.

“I don’t like to compare fights,” she said. “I believe that each fight is a different story. I’m training really hard and getting prepared to give another show to my fans and represent the Chute Boxe name well, always keeping my main focus on the knockout.”

i'd hit it

http://www.sherdog.com/news/news/Sherk-Out-of-UFC-108-21624

Sean Sherk has withdrawn from a lightweight bout against Jim Miller at UFC 108 on Jan. 2 in Las Vegas, Sherdog.com has confirmed with the fighter’s manager, Monte Cox.

Cox said the 36-year-old Minnesotan sustained a cut over his right eye that required multiple stitches. The former UFC lightweight champion had been promoted from a preliminary bout to face Miller on the main card only a week ago.

Sherk was also forced to pull out of a bout against Gleison Tibau at UFC 104 last October when he suffered a “Grade II AC separation” in his right shoulder while rolling with a training partner.

Sherdog.com has learned that the promotion is seeking a new opponent for Miller for the Jan. 2 event.

With a mix of strong wrestling and striking, the 26-year-old Miller earned a second-round technical knockout against Steve Lopez at UFC 103 last September in Dallas.

108 is cursed. if i was still on that card i would just stop all physical training. stay inside and study film of your opponent

According to Wiki, Nick Diaz is fighting Zaromskis for the WW title on Strikeforce's Herschel Walker debut card on Jan 30th:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strikeforce:_Miami

This will be a good test for both fighters IMO. Nick had better not do any of his stupid taunting during the fight because Zaromskis has Cro-Cop-esque head kicks.

If anyone saw his bout with Jason High in Dream, it ended with a brutal head-kick/punch KO that's hard to forget.

Speaking of people no one wants to see naked... war machine is doing porn now. Apparently it's old news that I missed that I heard about at a bar last night.

Okay, I hadn't heard this either, so I looked up his wiki page...there is now a warrant out for his arrest (don't know if he's been arrested yet) because he went ape**** at a porn actresses birthday party, attacked a bunch of guests, sent them to the hospital and ran off to hide from the cops.

I know people getting hurt isn't really funny, but can we get more random here!?!

Guy needs serious counseling.

According to Wiki, Nick Diaz is fighting Zaromskis for the WW title on Strikeforce's Herschel Walker debut card on Jan 30th:

That's a good fight, but I would be pissed if I were Jay Hieron. He was scheduled to face Diaz for the WW title a few months ago until Diaz no-showed the drug test. He won his fight that night (albeit against a replacement Jesse Taylor) and now gets passed over?

And Hieron brutally KO'd Jason High too. :D

Found this NSFW photo of his scene:

The nudity is blocked out but barely.

Yeah that is kind of messed up, I'm not sure why they overlooked Heiron. I know they want to give Zaromskis the opportunity to own both the Dream and Strikeforce WW belts to potentially hype him up though.

Love your signature by the way. Fedor is the King of great knockouts. That was a great one to see on network television. I hope Strikeforce is successful on CBS.

OMG!!! That's the exact same couch I have!

Lol! You didn't buy it used did you? It may have had War Machine's naked ass on it.

Thanks man. He's actually more of a submission/GnP guy IMO, but it seems like his standup is finally catching up to his ground game. He definitely hits hard though and has the best ground and pound I've ever seen in the sport.
