21KillzCowboys
This can't be good news... http://www.redskins.com/news/newsDetail.jsp?id=17679 McIntosh to Sit Out Mini-Camp By Gary Fitzgerald Redskins.com June 13, 2006 Rookie linebacker Roger "Rocky" McIntosh will undergo minor arthroscopic knee surgery on Wednesday and will sit out the June 16-18 mini-camp, the team has announced. McIntosh is expected to be fully healthy by the start of training camp in late July, head coach Joe Gibbs said. Roger McIntosh during OTAs. (Don Wright Photo) The 6-3, 237-pounder has been a daily participant in Organized Team Activity (OTAs) practices this offseason. McIntosh opted to have the scope now so that there would be no lingering concern over the knee heading into training camp. It's an unfortunate setback for the rookie because he had been impressing the coaches with his skills and work ethic during OTAs. Once training camp starts, McIntosh is expected to be in the mix for playing time at weak-side linebacker, along with Warrick Holdman, Chris Clemons, Robert McCune and Khary Campbell. McIntosh was the Redskins' second-round draft pick (35th overall) in the 2006 NFL Draft. In four seasons at the University of Miami, McIntosh started 26-of-46 games and recorded 266 tackles and 9.5 sacks. During his college career, he did not miss any significant time due to injuries. SkinsD
I'm not too concerned, I love that he is impressing coaches with his work ethic.
skinsfan93
Football players are always having their knee scoped from previous injuries. Didn't he injure his knee in college? I don't think it's a big deal.

I don't think it's a big deal. He has had a series of knee injuries during his career. He was first round talent but dropped to the 2nd round becuase he couldnt get off blocks well(fixable), he was inconsistent(fixable), and had knee concerns(unfixable). Not to mention look what a knee injury did to our former-star linebacker, Lavar Arrington... Not good... This is serious, hopfully it dosnt go into the regular season bothering him... authentic
he'll be ok... he has roughly 6-7 weeks to recover. Not too much to ask for a knee scope.
skinfan09
are they just looking at his knee to see if hes ready to go or are they actually going to operate on him? cause that is a big difference
LightenupSandyBaby
It could have been worse....It's not like he got into a motorcycle accident!!
CRobi21
This sucks, I know that its not too serious, but still. I'm looking for Clemons to step up now and be the starter goin into training camp. And Rocky will battle him for it. I think Holdman is pretty much done though. Hopefully.
jrockster21
I hope this is just a precautionary thing. If not, I hope Havner/Simon/Clemons/etc. step up. I'm not really too worried this season; I'd be more concerned if it was Carter who's injury flared up.

I believe Rocky has had only one knee injury in his career, which caused him to sit out most/all of his junior year at Miami.
pez
They are probably just going to clear out previous scar tissue. Probably nothing too serious. Better now than during the season!
ddub52
I dont think its that big of a concern right now. I just hope it isnt going to be a continuous issue

Skeletor The Invincible
And so starts the decline of McIntosh. Even before he steps on the field. I don't understand how you draft a guy who has questionable knees. It would be one thing if he were 33. But he's a rookie. He's supposed to be healthy as an ox. Not one-good-hit-on-his-knees away from missing the season.
RiggoReincarnated
If this is lingering, why the hell wasn't it done after Miamis last game of the season? Why did he wait? If he's waited this long, why now right before minicamp? Seems suspicious.

If a simple knee scope signaled the decline of a player's career then the NFL wouldn't have enough athletes left to support the league. And every single player in the NFL is one good hit on the knee away from missing the season, whether or not they need a knee scope in early June. The article says its a simple procedure and he'll be back for training camp. Doesn't sound like a big deal. And comparissons to Lavar do not apply, unless Rocky wants to push himself back at an unnecessary pace just so he can practice on a wet field and twist his injured knee again while slipping on wet grass. Hopefully he's smarter than that.
Skeletor The Invincible
whitskins, drink the Kool-Aid all you like, but I've seen enough to know that once a player starts having problems with his knees, it's not going to go away anytime soon.* *In the event it does go away, I reserve the right to go back on what I say. LoudMouth12thMan
taking care of it now in preparation for training camp makes it sound pre-cautionary. That is exactly what it sounds like to me. I think that they want to make sure that there is nothing in there that they need to worry about. I'm not a doctor, but I do play one on t.v. HTTR! Not good... This is serious, hopfully it dosnt go into the regular season bothering him... Dude, calm down. It is something the coaches knew about when they drafted him, it is the *reason* he went in the second round. This is no surprise to them. Not serious. When you hurt your knee, like he did, you get arthroscopic surgery. Then for a few years, every year or so you'll need to get cleaned out again. It isn't a meniscus tear, or ligament damage, just draining fluid. It is the surgical equivilant of a massage to a spasming back. It is not real surgery, there is no scar, you just have to wait for it to heal so as to avoid infection. This is *nothing* like what happened to Lavar, not to mention that Lavar didn't rehab enough according to most reports and hurt himself. It is a condition that 70% of NFL players used to just play through their whole career with. Now they just go get scoped and they feel better. Is it the best thing? No. Is there any possible way that the skins medical staff didn't know this was going to be done eventually? No, of course they did. They most likely made a decision between missing OTAs, minicamp, preseason, or pray that the fluid isn't too painful for him to miss games. Joey Porter and about 40 other NFL starters are getting this same thing done this summer. Don't worry, its okay and it is not at all like what Arrington had. Its the difference between your hair being cut and your hair catching fire - either way you don't have hair, but one is routine and simple, and the other is, well, I would be much more concerned about that LB Ernie Sims drafted like 8th or 9th over all in the 1st round who has had 3 concussions in 2 years. Now THAT is scary. BTW, Rocky gets of blocks very well - the thing they said was he didn't defend against cut blocks at his legs, very different. B.Lloyd
This really really sucks. Injuries can affect your whole season. Knee injuries are nagging and never stop. I hope this gets solved because if it isn't Rocky will be retiring when he's 30.:tantrum: :cuss: :soapbox:
