bono44
The first season preview mag that I've seen is out already (I end up buying them all). Pro Football Weekly has the 'Skins at #7 in the power rankings (tops for the NFC East . . . but Carolina at #1??) and summarizes the team's prospects: "If Mark Brunell can hold up for the long term, there's enough pop on defense to take this team for a long ride." Overall is pretty fair and laudatory for the 'Skins. How much longer until camp??

With Saunders and our new receivers, I think our offense is now the strength of our team.

bono44
Sorry for no link. The current mag is not posted on their web site (and when they do post it there is a fee). http://www.profootballweekly.com/PFW/default.htm
cakmoney61
our DEFENSE has enough pop? What about our offense?!?! With Saunders and our new receivers, I think our offense is now the strength of our team. That is very debatable. We don't know what this offense is capable of yet. We know the defense was awesome and it picked up a good defensive end and safety. Just my :2cents: .
Dirk Diggler
Ok - just picked it up myself. Pretty Skins friendly. They have Portis leading the NFC in rushing. They also gush about the staff. Like the feature of players/units who finished last year strong (Portis, Skins D, Larry J, etc.) PFW preview is very detailed. I'd put it first on the list of preseason mags. I'd stay away from Sporting News and Street&Smiths.
Thirtyfive2seven
Man, I've said it sooo many times as has everyone else but it needs to be said again: I can't wait for the season to start. Putting us at #7 seems really fair to me when you consider all the talent in the AFC and how strong the division currently is. Pittsburg will be tough as usual. The Pats will be good in a weak division (although I think it may be getting a little stronger with Miami in there). The Bengals will be good if Carson Palmer makes it back to 100%. Obviously the Colts are going to be in the playoffs again. Then you have some good NFC teams such as Seattle, Chicago, Carolina, the G'ain'ts and the Skins. CalSkinsFan
I usually don't get too caught up in the preseason mags, especially this early, but I think I am going to pick this one up. With all the Redskin love, it might help get me thru those off-season blues .

grego
i saw some rag last week that graded teams drafts. they called the skins 'the worst drafting team in the history of the league'- all the way back to GP marshall. i kid you not. but they did say rocky was a good draft pick. pjfootballer
One thing I miss is Football Preview Magazines with Redskins on them. I was in Florida from 1998-2005 and now I'm in South Carolina. Stupid Dolphins, Succaneers, Jag-u-ars and now Panthers on all my mags. I want to see Burgundy and gold.

We know the defense was awesome and it picked up a good defensive end and safety. Just my :2cents: . yeah, but Arrington was the backbone of our defense. We never should have let him go. We won every game because of him. Our defense is going to be 32nd in the league without Arrington.

They kinda have a point-- in the recent history, anyway. We acquire our talent through free agency. Our drafts do kinda blow-- in comparison, that is. We pick up some solid picks (Rocky's a good example), but its hard to be a good drafting team when you trade your top draft picks for free agents. Not that its a bad thing, just a different way of going about things.

Ghost of
Did anyone see the lame ratings for individual players in the PFW preview? Yes, they were positive about the Skins team but let me go over some of the lame rankings. Moss was #18 in the league with a lame 3.2 rating(out of 5 max) He was ranked BEHIND Isaac Bruce and Jimmy Smith and Derick Mason. WTF?? He finished what 2 in yards and TDs? "Not a one-trick pony, but he'd be called a specialist if not for the vertical game." Really? Did the lame-ass who wrote that actually see any Skins games? How do they justify rating Randy Moss #1 who is almost exclusively a jump-ball and deep ball receiver but that's a NEGATIVE for Santana who is the best in-air adjuster and can take short passes all the way too??? At least Randy Thomas got #9 out of offensive guards. Griffin was ranked #14 out of DTs. Another joke. Sean Taylor was rated #17 out of safeties. With a 2.9 rating. Behind such luminaries as Adam Archuleta (would ANYONE in the league take Taylor after Arch??!,) john Lynch, MIke Brown, Bob Sanders and Donovin Darius. Somehow Rodney Harrison is ranked up there even though they DIDNT rank other players due to injury in 2005. Stupid, STUPID ratings. Taylor as 17th safety is one of the dumbest ones I've EVER seen, when he'd be picked in the top 5 of safeties without a doubt and maybe top 5 defensive backs. Though they were much more effusive in praise when it came to the team writeup ("if he matures, he could become of the all-time greats, he's that special.") Clearly written by two different writers.
