Peregrine
I fail to see any point to this question. Might as well ask, if Sammy Baugh and Joe Thiesman were released in the same year, ignoring their careers, and you were the bears with the 9th overall pick... would you take pepperoni or sausage? CPstretch
there is hardly any debate here....PORTIS jamal was coming off his 2000 yard season, portis was coming off back to back 1500+ yard seasons and showed he was a beast. gotta go with the u on this one

mikeyf316
I think there is a bigger question: Had we taken Lewis, would we have needed to give up our first round pick to get him? If not, we'd have a first this year. That would allow us to pick somebody up in the draft who may be of benefit to the team for years to come. It would possibly have allowed us to use it to trade for Abraham or somebody else in another position we need currently. So what path would the team have taken if we did get Lewis instead of Portis? Would we have made it to the playoffs? Would we have done better or worse than we did this year? Lots of questions about the past few years depending on whether or not we got Portis... scruffylookin
CP and it's not even close. Clinton is a premiere runner who's talents make any offense better. Lewis is a system back who absolutely needs a strong offensive line to make him go. You put Lewis (even in his prime and before his drug bust) behind a mediocre to bad line, you get nothing. CP (see 2004 as exhibit A) can still be an effective runner despite a poor Oline and little to no threat out of the passing game.

Taylor 36
I have to say Portis, hands down. He is a much better back, over all. Lewis gave up on his team this year. Why would I want a guy like that carrying the ball for my team. Plus, the only one I want selling coke at Fed EX is the vendors.
Skins11
Why can't people see that Portis IS a Gibbs type runningback?

NAILBOMB9
You're right, at the time around 2000 after JL ran for all those yards I'm sure alot of us would be split about who to take. But, it is what it is and I am more than happy that CP is our back...wouldn't have it any other way!!

bbuzz1962
Prison takes a lot out of a man. He hasn't been the same player since he got out. It's a fact. You see things in prison, no man should. It's hell here on earth, and don't let anyone tell you different. He should have never been involved with those drug dealers. He was on a terrific run until his jail time. Portis hands down. Stupid question to ask. Sorry.
