Oh if King and those idiots think that have been grilled on just about every major sports-talk venue before about keeping Art out...imagine how bad it will get if they keep Darrell Green out.

What would be their excuse this time, "oh he's too short" or "He was too fast"

I can't even think about how outraged I'll be if DG isn't a first time inductee!!! :cuss: :cuss: :cuss:

Green's first year will be 2008. A player can be voted in 6 years after his last year playing.

I can't imagine Darrell Green not being inducted in his first year. He was considered either the best CB in the game or in the top 2 or 3 pretty much every year for nearly a decade (1984-1993) and then he was able to have a bit of a renaissance in the mid to late 90's on a defense that had no pass rush. Then add to that he played 20 freaking years at one of the most demanding positions in football, nobody (not even a Peter King type) can keep him out.

As disappointing as it is regarding Art Monk's screwjob today, it would be all worth it as a fan, if perhaps we could get Darrell Green, Art Monk and perhaps Russ Grimm inducted in the same year.

He should def be in there already. This is absurd.

Easy, there, big guy. You have to wait at least five years before you're eligible to go in. DG has only been out, what, three? That means he'll be up in 2008.

From the Pro Football Hall of Fame Website:

http://www.profootballhof.com/hof/selectionprocess.jsp

"Any fan may nominate any qualified person who has been connected with pro football in any capacity simply by writing to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The only restriction is that a player must have been retired at least five years before he can be considered. For example, a candidate for the 2006 class must have concluded his career not later than the 2000 season."

I can't imagine they would not elect Darrell Green to the Hall of Fame. He played for 20 seasons with the Redskins, tying the record, and is one of perhaps the greatest defensive backs to ever play the game, getting an interception in each of his first 19 seasons. It would have been better if he had gotten one in 2002 as well, but he was not a starting cornerback and was definately winding down as a player by then. Still, he was a match for any reciever he ever faced, and was truly a class act.

DG is a lock for HOF the first year he gets eligible...

if DG doesn't get in then you know for sure 100% that the HOF process needs to be revamped... only way DG doesn't get in is if voters let their personal agenda get above their duty as a HOF voter...

Just like Art Monk was a lock?

Face it, we WANT Green to be a lock. He DESERVES to be a lock. Realistically, we have to worry about the bias of Peter King types. For years now, they've allowed their personal agendas to override the will of the people they are supposed to be representing.

The entire process needs to be revamped to reflect the will of the average football fan, and eliminate the bias of a few.

The problem with Green, Monk, and Grimm is that they didn't push people out of the way to get in front of the camera. They didn't do the pre-game shows and make predictions about how they would dominate the opposing player. They played on teams that played for each other not pesonal glory. It makes me sick to hear everybody kiss up to the Patriots for being such "team oriented" guys when our guys get the shaft for having played the same way. Art deserves to be in the hall and so does russ. It also PISSES ME OFF that nobody mentions Jeff Bostic or Joe Jacoby, this group was by far the greatest offensive line in the history of the league and that includes Lombardi's Packers. They all deserve to be in the Hall.

There are a handful of players whose body of work overwhelms every agenda that any writer could ever conjure. Jerry Rice could have personally shot Dr. Z's dog, fried its liver up in a pan and eaten it at Zimmerman's 1999 Christmas party and Dr. Z still couldn't blackball Rice from Canton.

Much as we might not like to hear it, there are some marginal arguments against Monk being in Canton. *I* don't agree with them, but the arguments can be made, e.g., didn't dominate like Rice or Moss, etc. With Green, no such argument can be made. He played 20 years. He was part of two Super Bowl champions. He made the Pro Bowl seven times. He ended up with 55 INTs in 19 consecutive seasons (a streak that will never be broken). Only two players in NFL history had more defensive returns for TDs than Darrell.

Also remember that Art's reticence may have made him de facto enemies with some hypersensitive members of the press. Green, on the other hand, is a very gregarious, engaging, immensely likable guy. Couple those traits with his incredibly generous charitable work and there's very little opportunity for a grudge to even arise. And if, by chance, one has arisen, his career is so astonshing (clearly better than Monk's within their respective positions) that it will certainly overwhelm any malice any writer could somehow have manufactured.

Green is an absolute 100% mortal lock for the HOF. Though, with the disdain everyone has for the HOF election committee, I'm not sure what pride anyone here would feel if that ignoble crowd elected him anyway.
