Seems like all the "Albums of the Year" lists have popped up the last few days, so I thought it might be a good time for everyone to share their favorites from 2005. I know I missed some and could use a push to buy a few others I have been on the fence about. Here is my list:

1. Wolf Parade, Apologies to the Queen Mary

2. Bright Eyes, I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning

3. Bloc Party, Silent Alarm

4. Coldplay, X&Y

5. The Shout Out Louds; Howl, Howl, Gaff, Gaff

6. Iron & Wine/Calexico, In The Reins

7. My Morning Jacket, Z

8. Broken Social Scene, S/T

9. Jack Johnson, In Between Dreams

10. Bright Eyes, Digital Ash In A Digital Urn --AND-- Brendan Benson, The Alternative to Love (tie)

Posse.....I like your taste in music. I have all but 2 of these CD's. I would include maybe Postal Service, Spoon, The Music, and the new Badly Drawn Boy CD which is awesome. The new Strokes album woud definatley be on this list if it came out a week earlier.

The latest eels Cd is awesome too

Man, I'm psyched for the Stokes album. Have you heard it?

I like the Spoon album, it just got bumped off the list. It would be top-15 for sure. I need to check out the Eels album as well.

How would you describe Silver Jews? It's popping up on a lot of lists.

Common Sense - BE

Haven't heard a CD close to as good as that one so far in 05. I've heard that Tonedeff - Archetype is really good though, but I haven't heard it yet.

I agree with that.

Kanye West - Late Registration was hot as well.

I would add System of a Down's "Mezmerize" to my list. That, and The Transplants "Haunted Cities".

Oh, and Kaiser Chiefs "Employment".

Of course, my #1 album of the year is Rise Against's "Siren Song of the Counter Culture".

When the lead singer of Bad Religion lists you as one of his new favorite punk bands - you go to the head of my list.

The new Strokes album is good, not great but very very good. They try to do alot of different things and some of them work really well, and some not so well. Lyrically, I think that it is disappointing compared to the first album. However, it does rock.

I just downloaded the Silver Jews last night, but did not get to listen to it. I will let you know.

I guess I need to get this My Morning Jacket album, because everyone is raving about it. That DJ Muggs v. the GZA album sounds pretty interesting as well.

Well, it only took me four years but I finally hit 200 posts. Alright, Alright.

Matisyahu - Live at Stubb's

The Gorillaz - Demon Days

Kanye West - Late Registration

Unfortunately, nothing else this year was that great. Z by MMJ was pretty good, as was Bloc Party's album. I thought the Bright Eyes albums that came out sucked compared to their other stuff. White Stripes, Rise Against, and DangerDoom had some pretty good albums, but nothing groundbreaking.

What Bright Eyes album did you like better than I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning. I thought everything else bright eyes has ever done is pretty boring.

From this point forward it's no longer a response to Chopper Dave. Just overall comments.

Dangerdoom. My biggest problem with it is the rapping was good. MF Doom is remarkably consistent, but except for a few tracks Danger Mouse's production wasn't all that great. He seemed too much like he was trying to mimic Madlib's production from Madvillain. After The Grey Album I know Danger Mouse is capable of much better. Oh and Talib Kweli's rap is terrible on that album.

The two best rap albums of the year were largely unknown. Edan's Beauty and the Beat and Gza and Dj Muggs Grandmasters. Kanye's album was probably next, but there was a big jump from there.

Lifted or The Story is the Soil was much, much better. So was Fevers and Mirrors.

Additionally, if you're into Danger Mouse's type of stuff, you should check out that new Wu-Tang indie album. It's crazy good.

1) Sufjan Stevens - Illinoise

2) Broken Social Scene - Broken Social Scene

3) Sigur Ros - Takk

4) The Decemberists - Picaresque

5) Bright Eyes - I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning

6) Animal Collective - Feels

7) The New Pornographers - Twin Cinema

8) Clap Your Hands Say Yeah - Clap Your Hands Say Yeah

9) Devendra Banhart - Cripple Crow

10) Lightning Bolt - Hypermagic Mountain

I'm surprised to not see Sufjan and Sigur Ros mentioned more...I think Deadwing is way overrated. Haven't heard Wolf Parade but I've been meaning to pick it up. And I think Broken Social Scene self-titled is better than You Forgot It In People. So suck on that.

Let's just say, I have never disagreed with you more.

And you know we have disagreed frequently when it comes to music.

The only Bright Eyes material I've enjoyed outside of I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning is "Haligh Haligh A lie," "Going for the Gold," and "True Blue." The final of these is an I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning B-side, so I'm not even sure that one should count.

Thanks for the reccomendation. I'm not sure I've even heard of this.

I'm surprised not to see Sufjan mentioned more as well. He just missed my top 10, but everyone I talk to seems to think it's hands down the best album of the year. My problem with him is that really everything about Sufjan is put together to be very pretty, give people pretty thoughts and make people say, "Well, that's very pretty." And he does a good job at doing that, but I just can't get fully into something that doesn't demand a more complex response from me.

That said. "The Predatory Wasp of the Palisades is out to get us" would be on my top 10 songs of the year list. "Night Zombies" would come very close if it didn't make it.

Sigur Ros is living off their past. They used to make very good music. Now they're just creating a largely boring musical experience, but using the same texture. Takk... sounds like if some indie culture savvy sketch comedy show created some music to make fun of Sigur Ros.

Oh, and "You Forgot it in People" is just great

For me, System of a Down's Mesmerize and Mars Volta's Frances the Mute are my too favorites from 05.

Frances the Mute would be great if it didn't have vocals. I don't know what it is about that guy but I cannot stand the sound of his voice. Not to mention he's the most pretentious prick I've ever seen in person.
