Thrash, not Jacobs, will be the other starter (merged)

Patten

I think he is the better number 2 he just has either been playing injured or was in a massive slump. Hes an experienced talented reciever, and thats why there are so many PI's called on corners defending him cause they have to.

Jacobs has alot to prove, but he certainly has all the tools.

Thrash, I think the guy is a really great guy and a really good all arround football player. I think hes most dangerous in the number 3 role though.

I didn't vote because Jacobs can't be properly evaluated or even speculated very seriously yet. We need to see him play. I agree in still supporting Patten, and out of reasoning, not blindness. I also agree with Thrash as #3, not a #2, unless you just don't throw much to your #2 WR. Which in this offense, with Patten, has been the case so far. And yes, I know he's muffed some that were thrown his way, I'm just talking about total attempts. In our current offense the h-hack/TE as well as the RB's get more designed attempts than the #2 WR.

This doesn't mean I haven't been waiting and anxious to see if Jacobs is a dream or a dud for us. Since the beginning of the year I've stated that I'd like this season to be the one where we play him enough to decide either keep him or move on.

Spot on...my brother, spot on!!!

I'm real curious to see how a tall and quick receiver will react in our Offense. We all know how much he's been "talked up"...let's see how he performs.

To me, Thrash is almost automatic on 3rd down. However, is he a number 2 receiver? I don't think so...and I don't think that JG thinks so. I DO believe the JG thinks Thrash is an all around good football player and someone he can count on...

I think we can see how bad DP's injury was from the surgery and immediately being placed on IR (confirm?). Arthroscopic surgery doesn't necessarily mean you should be done for the year, as many of us know. I think that can certainly account for his lack of effectiveness this season, like Mark Brunell last year.

See, I'm trying to learn from my mistakes. I was REALLY down on Brunell last year and this preseason, and was straight SCARED when he was named the starter.

I think I remember saying something along the lines of :puke:

But I learned a valuable lesson. I don't know ****. So, Jacobs will get a chance to shine in the coming weeks, and of course I hope he performs like so many of us think he can. If defenses continue to key on Santana, he should be able to get open.

Plus, I'm happy to hear about Jimmy Farris around Redskins Park again. I liked that cracker, and I was bummed when we cut him.

Hail Skins! And here's to Patten's speedy and full recovery.

because he is another younger guy that has yet to prove himself. Thrash has been the team's best ST player and one of the hardest workers plus he has started almost 3 years worth of games in the NFL.

people keep shorting Thrash but he did have 60 catches in Philly on a team that went to the NFC Title game.

:applause:

I don't have nothing against Taylor Jacobs, he's a Redskin so I hope he does well.. What I do have a problem with is people saying "he'll be great", "he's a beast" "he had a good catch last year against Minnesota". People that give their loyalty so freely to the flavor of the month player without really knowing that much about them.

Like those guys who swore McCune would be a monster player just because he was cut.. It's comical really. McCune may yet be a monster in this league, but you know what? I'll hold my opinions until I see the man in action. Just like with Jacobs.

lol santana's clone...i wish....if we would of traded for randy in the offseason we could of had 2 mosse's. and with the way marks throwing that ball...whoa! id see us on the verge of 10-0....but then again id see a lot of "give me the damn ball."

PS: to Hell with Randy Moss. I don't want him on my team. Can I get an 'Amen?'

I know we are yet to see Jacobs this season. And I would never wish any injury on any sports player (well maybe Jerry Jones), but I think Pattens injury is a good thing. He has not been good for us all season, and I personally didnt think he would be. Moss is short and so is Patten and 2 short recievers just wont fly it. I always been a Jacobs fan. Jacobs and Danarian McCants were who i use to root for...but we'll see this sunday what happens because they will double moss, and this will be a opp.

We've seen him, albeit little. Here's his numbers on the year:

RECEIVING

Year Team G GS No Yards Avg Lg TD 20+ 40+ FD

2003 Washington Redskins 8 0 3 37 12.3 19 1 0 0 1

2004 Washington Redskins 15 4 16 178 11.1 45 0 2 1 9

2005 Washington Redskins 8 0 2 33 16.5 24 0 1 0 1

TOTAL 31 4 21 248 11.8 45 1 3 1 11

with the way the Redskins have been able to deliver the ball to Moss, Cooley, Portis and Betts the receiver on the other side should be seeing some decent matchups and chances to make plays.

the fact we have gotten NOTHING out of that other side of the field from the WR spot has been a sore point.

Jacobs and Thrash have to be able to do more than Patten was able to the first 9 weeks for this team to sit up and beat clubs like the Chargers, Cowboys and Giants down the stretch here.

Do you know how classless you sound saying Patten's injury is a good thing? An injury to a player on your favorite team is never a good thing. Definetly to a guy with such a great work ethic as Patten. Does anyone stop and think to themselves at all that maybe he was playing with intense pain before they join the Jacobs circle jerk? I, like everyone, will be rooting for TJ to play well, but I will not kick Patten while he is down. Everyone should be hoping he heals well and comes back to be a very good #2/#3 next season.

LSS,

I agree with everything you said it is not "good". But this is probably Jacobs best chance he would have to redeam himself. Things happen for a reason. Maybe this injury is what was needed for Jacobs to shine. Who knows. If he has a big game though, i will be rooting for him as well.

I've heard Coach Gibbs say that to look at James Thrash percentage of completions proves that he should be the No. 2 WR. However, the coach is also aware of the burden of PRs and KRs. At the moment, JT is the key returner on special teams. You will not see him often during the game on an offensive play as he would probably be used in relief.

There was a time when the fastest wide receiver on the team was James Thrash. His failure would be in running routes. Lets hope that JT can advance the ball and establish better field position. He hasn't yet proved to me he can. Hail Redskins!

According to Joe Gibbs Jacobs Starts and Thrash is the 3rd reciever, even Gibbs said this is the kids chance to step it up!!!

yep he is quoted in the WP and WT saying that Thrash is too important on special teams, I assume he doesn't want to over work him

Redskins coach Joe Gibbs said that since No. 3 receiver James Thrash -- a starter from 2000 to 2003 with Washington and Philadelphia -- is also the team's top return specialist, he'll remain in those roles with third-year man Taylor Jacobs leaping from afterthought to Patten's spot.

Thrash will be even more important tomorrow against Oakland since his kickoff return partner, Ladell Betts, is doubtful with a sprained knee.

Redskins.com does NOT say It is jacobs it says jacobs would have an opprutunity to have a breakout game, Jacobs and Thrash might switch off at #2
Replacing Patten in the starting lineup will be third-year receiver Taylor Jacobs, according to Gibbs. James Thrash will likely serve as the team's third option at wide receiver.
