  1. Joe Burrows improvement at LSU and ability to sustain it making the jump to the pros gives me some hope that the improvement the Jayden made can help him with his transition as well and that it wasn’t just a fluke.
  2. I think that they really don’t scout for future drafts that much, there is so much on the plate and time is a factor. They might have an idea about who’s coming out, but they more than likely have a slotted time frame that they use to learn about this years draft prospects. There are so many prospects to learn about, and so much other stuff going on, including free agency, I doubt there is enough time to really focus in on who might be coming in with the next years crop of players. I can buy that he hasn’t really zeroed in on anyone coming out this year before coming here, because he probably didn’t have the time necessary to thoroughly review the prospects. And then once he got here, it was time for him to really start to try to review and learn about these draftees, and even then he still had free agency eating up a lot of his time as well. By now though, I’m sure they have pretty much decided on who their QB pick will be at #2 and have filled out their draft board. And I doubt they’ve done hardly any research on players in next years draft.
  3. No, I think it was a combination of that plus his poor play, with his poor play being the main reason. If he played well enough, he would still be here, it’s as simple as that. They were going to trade him, no matter who they were picking at #2.
  4. That’s what had thought originally, but then after thinking more about it, Sam played horribly during the second half of the season, but still had somewhat of a cult following even after his poor play. The local radio shows were filled to the brim with callers that wanted to keep Sam and draft a tackle. Once they decided that they were drafting a qb, they had no choice but to trade him, there would’ve been just to much of a headache to keep him. On top of that his play didn’t warrant him staying.
  5. My best guess is that JJs charisma and abundance of football knowledge bestowed upon him by Harbaugh really wowed everyone there, and that’s what has Jayden’s agent doing this.
  6. I agree 100%. I’m fine if the pick is Maye, he has some amazing traits. But whatever it is that’s causing him to struggle with the easy ones and caused him to struggle pretty bad when he played better defenses needs to be fixed before he starts. The casual fan is not going to be very understanding if he comes out playing like he did against NC State and Clemson, missing on easy throws and barely completing half of his passes. Most people watching don’t even know what pressure2sack rate is, or throwing with anticipation, or any of the other advance metrics. Most fans know TDS, ints, completion%, wins and losses. People will be ok with sacks and losses with a young qb, we learned that last year with Sam Howell, he didn’t start getting disliked until the completion % went down and the amount of picks went up. but they will not be ok with someone that’s missing open guys on easy throws that they feel they can make themselves, and Maye has more of those than any highly touted qb coming out that I’ve seen. The media will end up blowing things out of proportion if that starts to happen, pandering to the casual fan, trying to rouse up negativity and bring up their personal ratings. People will get down on him quickly and the media will help to push them, especially if Jayden and or JJ and or Caleb is playing better than he is. Stroud set a bar last season and now every rookie will be measured against it, at least for the foreseeable future, so if a young qb is playing, fans will expect them to play well. There is also the UNC tie to Sam that presents us with a possible negative media narrative if he struggles as well. The fan base gave Sam the benefit of the doubt up until the very end and I don’t see it happening twice in a row with back 2 back UNC QBs. Especially with Maye struggling with some of the same issues, drifting into sacks and holding the ball to long. If he comes out struggling with those same issues, the media will jump on it, especially with the UNC connection there. There is also the fact that most media represents Jayden as the #2 pick now, (not all, but it is at least a majority now), and they will be all to happy to run “I told you so’s” on every sports talk show out there, it stinks, but that’s just the way modern sports media is these days. If Maye struggles early, the national media will work to turn the fanbase against him. Jayden has his wheels to lean on if he is a subpar passer and the media will give him the benefit of the doubt because of it, just like they did with Fields, he would have to be abysmal for the media and the fans to turn on him early. Caleb is a media darling and has already been hailed the next Mahomes and he will be the #1 pick so with just that alone, nobody will throw the bust label at him for at least a year. That leaves Maye, if he comes out playing poorly the media will be looking to start throwing the bust label on him because they need something negative to talk about to drive their own ratings. This will in turn, turn the casual fan against him because they are less likely to understand the process of developing a qb. This is why I think if he is the choice, let him sit and get those things corrected that most people see as an issue for him. He is young and he has plenty of prime years ahead of him. The last thing we need is him coming out with the same innacuracy and consistency issues that the media has and will be talking about until the start of the season. Give him every thing he needs to succeed early without having to face to much negativity or adversity early on. And then when they feel he is ready to perform at the level that they want day in and day out then send him out there and let him cook, whether it’s day one or week 1 next year, just make sure he is ready to play at a high level and succeed 1st.
  7. I like the group outing idea, we are trying to build for long term success and stuff like this will help the coaches and FO build relationships and a good reputation. We might not be drafting all of these guys this year, but in 4 or 5 years when these guys start to hit free agency, maybe some of the relationships built here will help us with bringing in some of these guys then.
  8. That offense took the league by storm. The second half of the season we were an unstoppable force. We ran over everyone and then when they’d stack the box we had great receivers to throw to. This gets me excited about the possibility with Jayden, if he is the pick then give him Brandon Aiyuk to go along with Tmac, Dotson, Robinson, Ekler, and Ertz. Find a decent left tackle in the draft and the offense could be fun and formidable
  9. I like JJ a lot. I don’t see anything that would limit his ceiling compared to the other top guys, and I think his floor is quite a bit higher than Maye. But until recently I really saw this as a 2 horse race, but the closer we get, the more viable he is becoming I believe. You’re even starting to hear Kiem mentioning him more as a possibility, where as a couple weeks ago Kiem stated he highly doubted JJ would be the pick at 2. He hasn’t backtracked on that statement per se, but he isn’t saying it anymore, at least I haven’t heard him say it recently. I think JJ will impress at his top 30 visit
  10. But does he have the skibidi? Or the fantum tax? I’m glad to hear he is the rizzler. Now we know we should go with JJ because he doesn’t have time for chasing girls, he’s all about football
  11. JJ is my choice to be here after Caleb Williams. I have him and Jayden really close and would be very happy with both. I actually don’t mind the Alex Smith Comp, I think he does the easy stuff very well like Alex smith did, he protects the ball like Alex smith did, he is a great scrambler like Alex smith was. I also think JJ is a better runner, has more quickness and has more wiggle than Alex smith ever did. I also believe that JJ has a better arm and is a better thrower into tight coverage than Alex smith, and JJ throws with anticipation at a high level and is accurate over the middle of the field. To me he is like if Kirk Cousins and Alex Smith had a baby and he got all of the good from both without any of the bad. The only thing that concerns me a little is he hasn’t really shown the ability to change speed on his throws. I think this can be fixed. Maye is able to throw at varying speeds but his mechanics are all messed up while doing so, so I think it’s more of an issue with Maye because it’s something he needs to fix and then re-learn, where as JJ just has to learn. Jayden does a great job changing speed on his throws when needed and does so without really changing the way he throws.
  12. I think the Dave Gardi signing means we are leaning Drake Maye for qb because both of their names start with D. And Quinn said when he got hired he wanted an explosive D. Jayden’s last name starts with D so maybe I’m wrong
  13. I like Keims take about Kyle McCord. He was throwing to elite talent at Ohio state and wasn’t good. You’ve got to be a good qb to make use of the good talent around you. And while I think we can all agree that Daniels had better talent around himself, I hope we can all agree that LSU had played against much better talent than UNC did. One reason I get so excited about Jayden is that he really improved a lot this year. And by all accounts it wasn’t his physical traits that improved, it was his processing and decision making. To me, these are the most important traits a qb can have, and JD has shown the ability to really get better in this department
  14. Luckily for me the RG3 PTSD has subsided. Right now I’m still trying to get over a UNC qb that made great big time throws, but held the ball a little to long and drifted into pressure a little to often, that just about every sports show host was touting as the franchise guy for Washington, before completely falling off a cliff the second half of the season. Those wounds are just a little fresher. I imagine though I’m much to worried about nothing.
  15. I know it happens, but as a fan, it just really sucks when you see your qb missing an open guy or a receiver dropping a pass that hit him in the hands. It’s so deflating. The ones that are the worst are the ones where you can tell it’s a bad pass, but still could’ve been caught, you don’t know which player to get more angry with.
  16. Someone had asked for a breakdown of what Cooley said a few pages back, I had flipped over to the JJ bandwagon, but Cooley might’ve got me back on the Daniels bandwagon. I still worry though because of the Malik nabers every target video that I had posted had a few throws that I thought Daniels should’ve made. Im one of those guys that think if these guys are getting paid huge bucks to throw the ball, than 99 times out of a hundred if a guy is open you should at least give him a catchable ball. And I’m even worse with receivers, if they can get 2 hands on the ball and don’t come up with it, it infuriates me. These nfl players get to mess up just as much as a weather man and still keep their jobs.
  17. I’d be fine with trading back with New England and getting the extra second. I’m happy with all 4 of the top QBs, though I admit that Mayes inability to consistently hit on the easy throws worries me, if the coaches wanted him and could get him plus an extra 2nd, I’d be thrilled
  18. Cooley loved Jayden, said he can get up to 225lbs within 2 years. Loves him so much that he said there is no need to do more film breakdown. Said Jayden should be the pick at #2. He said if you only look at passing plays, he is already a human highlight reel Said he had great footwork and mechanics Sais he makes every through, accurately and with touch Sais he is an amazing athlete that can run for 40 yards on any given play. Said he can outrun a defense and loves his burst and acceleration Sais he reads defenses really well and goes through his progressions really well. Said he layers the ball over the middle reall well loves his deep ball and thinks he can throw it a long way sais he is likes his frame and has an athletic body, thinks he can add 15lbs in 2 years if he had to sais he opens the door for the offense to do a lot as a rookie qb, said he could be as good as stroud his rookie year his only negative was that he doesn’t have the arm strength to rifle in a 17 yard comeback into tight coverage, but thinks he will be able to make up for it with timing.
  19. Wouldn’t it be the same if they draft Maye and he busts and Daniels turns out to be good? I don’t think it’s fair to either of them to hang everything on this #2 pick. It’s not like they are trading the house for the qb. It’s just one pick. With all the picks and cap space we have, there is a good chance within 3 years we could have a much better overall roster and could bring in a vet like Tampa did with baker if we need a qb upgrade.
  20. I’m pretty sure that final say on the qb will go to peters. One thing that I was very excited about with the Quinn hire was that he seemed to be perfectly happy with being the coach and allowing Peters to control the roster construction. Quinn even stated that it would be Peters decision.
  21. Ballsy take right here. If he does end up taking Daniels and he ends up balling out and your guy busts, you’ve left yourself open. I applaud the confidence and conviction
  22. I really like Daniels release. He doesn’t need a lot of space tho throw the ball. One thing I’ve noticed with Maye is he has a tendency to drop the ball to around his belt level during his release on most throws. You can really see it in the Syracuse game 2023.
  23. Not at all, I have the same worries. I know that JJ doesn’t have the number of attempts as these other QBs, but in the attempts he had, I saw no weakness to his game. I like the way that Paulson and Hoffman stated it. He is a B+ player across the board and an A- in some aspects. He is only 21 and has plenty of time to get better. I’m glad we are bringing him in for a visit. Hopefully he wows our FO and is the choice. He’s my favorite non crossdressing qb in the draft.
