  1. I’d feel a lot better if we drafted a tackle or 2, hopefully we sign 1 as well.
  2. Michigan had a great o line, LSU, not so much, especially this last season. I said I’d want them to sit McCarthy as well. Though not for the same reasons as Maye, McCarthy needs to put on a little size, Maye needs to stop drifting into pressure. Both are young and can afford to sit. Daniels on the other hand, has great mechanics, and is fast at getting through his progressions. The other 2 will probably catch up, but it’ll take a year or 2, Daniels has played a lot more football, he is more ready than the other 2.
  3. The more I think about it, the more I’m willing to see Mariota get the start at the beginning of the year, especially if the picks Maye or McCarthy, they are both really young. On top of that, with the recent turnarounds that Baker and Geno had, maybe Mariota can do something similar, highly unlikely I admit, but he was drafted in the 1st round, so he does have the pedigree. What I really would hate to see is our young qb forced into competition before he is ready, with an o line that is unable to protect him. We have seen time and time again what happens to young QBs that take a lot of sacks. We even have a term for it, “Ramseyed”. Someone like Drake that has all the potential in the world, you want to harness that potential. Right now his feet lead him into the pressure quite often. That, in combination with a bad o line could be detrimental to him reaching his potential. I would hope they make sure to get one of those issues fixed before they throw him into the fire.
  4. This is pretty detailed and shows some of Mayes highs and lows. The same guy took a fat dump on JJ McCarthy
  5. I think LSU was fine with him running, if not they would’ve put a stop to it. He is slendor, not frail. If he was frail he would’ve never played in as many games as he did without getting injured. Do you have his medicals? The dude might just have really strong bones and ligaments. As to missing open guys down field, I believe he had one of the highest completion percentages in CFB last year, on top of that, isn’t he also the one that gets bashed for hitting his open receivers? Why risk a throw when you can get the first down with your legs, every time the ball is in the air it is more likely to be turned over. Jayden is an elite athlete, yes the NFL coaches will get on him more about protecting himself, but they will not have him do things that will hamstring his success as a player or the team as a whole, and yes that includes letting him take off whenever he feels the opportunity is there. If someone has that ability, then you use it, you use anything you can that helps to win games.
  6. Why though, we know for 100% certainty that is what they wanted from him at ASU playing under Herm Edward’s, a NFL guy. Yes he might of taken more sacks because of it, but his completion percentage was really high, he made huge plays, and he didn’t turn the ball over.
  7. Bo nix got that swag, he is truly underrated in his ability to extend plays, Joe Milton just for the fact that he has a cannon and unbelievable physical traits and abilities, I’m interested if by the end of his rookie contract, if any of these NFL QB gurus can fix his processing and accuracy issues. If so, he could be a 3rd day gem. JJ McCarthy, the dude has whatever “it” is, I think he will succeed. He is a great field processor, strong arm, a really good runner that is pretty shifty, and throws very well on the move. Plus he’s been coached by one of the best coaches to ever coach. I’d be perfectly fine trading back a spot and taking him at #3.
  8. Not sure what LSU told him to do, but we know with 100% certainty that at ASU they had him look for the run over making the throw once he started moving. This was not Jayden’s decision, it was Herms, and he made the decision because he knew Jayden’s running ability was elite, and Herm is also really big on protecting the ball. This was all in the Kiem/Edwards interview. Is it so far fetched that the LSU coaching staff would see and conclude the same things? I think not. I imagine they were perfectly happy with how Jayden played, he did win the Heisman after all, for best player in college football. As others have posted on this thread, LSUs offense was built in a way that made Jayden’s legs the check down decision, quite often, it’s easy to see if you watch enough of LSUs film. Not only that, he showed growth in his ability to throw on the run this year vs the years prior. So even if LSU wanted him to throw more at least he showed growth, and potential in that aspect of his game, and that’s after 2 years of being coached to run when things got messy.
  9. At least we know now that while he was at ASU playing under Herm Edward’s, he was coached to look for the run, instead of the pass when the play broke down. We found that out in the Kiem/Herm interview. We don’t know what he was coached to do at LSU. It could be that he was coached to do the same thing, especially after looking at most of LSUs play designs. Their rout trees were designed to leave an open area of the field, usually the center of the field relatively close to the LOS open, giving Jayden a lot of open green to run to if he didn’t like what he saw.
  10. I’m really excited about this team. LT is still concerning me, but it believe there are 4 QBs that will be legitimate starters in this league, maybe 5 if Penix knee holds up. After watching Sam make bad decisions last year, I’m really hoping we land a guy that’s a great decision maker.
  11. Don’t forget, in The Land Before Time, it was the longnecks that saved the day, not the 3 horn.
  12. He is so smooth, and throws one of the prettiest balls on the move I’ve ever seen. That article above was really telling. People look at Maye as being the over the middle, anticipation thrower, but according to the stats, JJ has him beat in that category. I like him a lot, he’s been coached by one of the best coaches in the world, that’s gotta help a lot in how he sees and understands the game.
  13. Where do you get this 1 read stuff about him. It’s just not true. Watch the Warner review of Jayden’s game vs ole miss. He constantly and consistently goes though his reads and finds the open man.
  14. Certainly not the kind of year Daniels just had. Bryce has only played 1 year, it’s too early to write him off. Mac Jones should’ve never been drafted as high as he was.
  15. I never claimed sec qb supremacy, I claimed SEC talent pool and coaching staff supremacy, and I never even mentioned Burrow. Jaydens stock should rise because he had one of the best seasons in college football history added to the fact that he has become an amazing decision maker throwing the football, and has vastly improved the time he needs to get through his progressions. An accurate passer that is a great decision maker throwing the ball, that can get through his reads fast usually equals a really good QB.
  16. Dak, Stafford and Tua are high end starters in the league right now. Hurtz has done pretty well for himself as well.
  17. Joe Milton is my late round draft crush, especially if we are drafting Daniels. Let him be qb3 behind Mariota. If there is a coach out there that can match Milton’s mental game to his physical abilities then he could be a real gem of a late round pick. I just rewatched his pro day, the dude has a cannon, he is fast, big, strong. Get this guy in the building and let him sit and learn for a year or 2 then let him loose in the preseason. If his mental game isn’t there by then, than cut bait. But if he can become a decent passer, he’d be a great back up for JD5. We wouldn’t have to change the offense at all if he needed to start.
  18. It’s pretty simple, 40 tds to 4 ints, 72% completion percentage, over 1000 yds rushing and another 10 rushing tds added to that, doing it in the SEC, the conference with the best talent pool to play against as well as the best coaching staffs in college football.
  19. I agree with that and think him being a Heisman award winner has a lot to do with it. He has been hyped to the moon since the beginning of the second half of the season, though after that ridiculous season he just had, I think the hype may be warranted.
  20. The Kiem/Herm interview was pretty good. At least we know now that at ASU, Herm had Daniels looking to run instead of throw when the play went grey. He did seem to throw on the move a little more last year.
  21. Coaching and situation and development have just as much importance in whether a qb succeeds or not. It’s why every qb that plays under Andy Reid has tremendous success. It’s why Joe Gibbs was able to win 3 Super Bowls with 3 separate QBs. Guys like Geno and Baker fell flat, but after years working on their craft and receiving knowledge from other coaches, and developing, they were finally able to succeed. A guy like Warner took years to develop into being who he was, played in several different leagues. Guys like Mariota and Sam Darnold, Mason Rudolph, keep getting jobs because these coaches want that veteran guy in the QB room to give the younger the knowledge they’ve learned, and because these coaches trust them more than a younger late round pick to be able to keep a team competitive if the starter goes down with injury, or just shows he’s not ready to play. A minor league system would be extremely valuable for developing these young guys, especially QBs. Look at what happened with Howell. He spent an entire year getting very few reps in practice, and none in games til the last week of the season. Just imagine how different it might of been last year if he had an entire year of taking 1st team reps in practice, and getting live game reps in a “d league” using the same playbook that the NFL team uses. I was listening to some sports podcast earlier today and they said they had asked Vrabel how Levis was progressing while they were playing the last time the titans played in London, Vrabel told the reporter that he didn’t know, because there wasn’t enough reps in practice to really work on developing him. Those reps had to go to Tannehil who was starting at the time. I believe if each team had their own minor league team that ran the same offensive and defensive playbooks, learning the schemes and techniques the coaches use, it would greatly reduce the bust rate at every position, especially qb.
  22. I wouldn’t be to concerned, usually if we fly out to Michigan, it means we are not getting the guy we went to interview with
  23. This is probably why so many QBs bust. These coaches overrate how good they can coach. I wish the nfl had a farm system like the mlb, the mlb has an entire system used for development.
