  1. Oh, my God. Is that the, 'My Pillow' guy?! Also, Sam's facial expression and body language looks like someone just stole his GF there.
  2. I don’t think this is what will happen, but Johnson will be a first time HC, and isn’t a rah rah type guy. I think Dan Quinn as DC/assistant HC could be very complementary. Quinn could be helpful in the HC logistics and be the rah rah guy, and is an experienced DC. Johnson would be the big picture guy with the larger vision. I think this could free up Johnson to some degree in terms of being a 1st time HC, but also the primary play caller.
  3. I don't have any stats. I'm just saying that someone published an article with stats that in no way support his conclusions. But I agree. 2002 is an age ago. For me, I think the interview would mostly be about seeing who he has lined up for a potential staff, and how he sees the current roster and how it fits his preferred schemes. It's probably also important when considering candidates that haven't been head coaches before.
  4. This doesn't make a lot of sense. They are interviewing in Detroit and in DC on the same day? This data couldn't be less impressive. Offensive minded head coaches have won 51% of their games vs 48% for defensive minded head coaches since 2002? And in the post season it's 51% vs 49%? I doubt those numbers are statistically significant. Certainly the data above that does seem to reinforce the importance of having a top 5 offense. I think when you take all of that data together, what you can glean, is that defensive minded head coaches aren't much less likely to field a top offense. I still want Ben Johnson, because I think he's a good coach, we are going to be breaking in a rookie QB, and I want the offensive stability. But if there wasn't such a good offensive candidate available, I wouldn't mind a defensive candidate.
  5. I’ve been thinking about him too, since that senior bowl post. I basically haven’t watched him at all, but I’d love to hear from some of our regulars.
  6. I think of Jahan more as a slot guy that can occasionally get open deep. He’s not a high end speed guy. Terry is fast and can get deep. I think of him more as a do everything guy. But imagine another speed guy drawing safety coverage away from Terry. We currently do have another burner, in Samuel, but, I think we are likely to let him leave. Do we want to go in to next season with a new QB and less receiving talent and receiving speed than we had on the field this season? I don’t think it’s as high a priority as QB/OL or maybe even TE, but I would do SOMETHING. Obviously, we are going to address some of these issues in FA
  7. I hope Legette turns an ankle, doesn’t play, and never works out before the draft. What I think is more likely however is that the Senior Bowl is part of what propels him into the 1st round. What does everyone here thing about Xavier Worthy, out of Texas? We could use a big play, elite speed guy to take the top off and relieve Terry of some pressure.
  8. This times 1,000. Next year, if Johnson leaves and the Lions regress, which seems likely, everyone will be saying, “That’s why you hire an offensive minded play caller”. Ditto Houston after Slowik leaves. And I think it’s 1,000 more important with a young QB that you’re breaking in. If we had Kirk Cousins, no big deal. Dude is old and knows the game. I’m gonna be soooooo much more confident in Drake Maye being good if we land Johnson/Fraley. Johnson, Fraley and Peters would give him the absolute best shot to maximize his talent. It’s the opposite of handing a 5th round QB the keys under Rivera and Bienemy.
  9. Fuaga gets a lot of love on the board, but I don’t see JC Latham referenced nearly as much. What’s the feeling in the board about Latham Va Fuaga?
  10. It sounds like Ben Johnson/Hank Fraley as HC/OC seems more and more likely, and I would be ecstatic with that being the staff in charge of developing a young QB. I've half moved on to wondering more what caliber of hire we should be expecting at DC. I'm super curious about that, since we don't have a stacked defensive roster and an incoming DC might expect some struggled for a while based on personnel.
  11. I'm not mad at the trade, because it helped bring us the 2nd overall pick in the draft and cap flexibility. Trading Montez and Chase might be what brings us 10 years of stability at QB. But, to your point, watching Montez explode the moment after the trade makes JDR and Rivera look exactly as incompetent as they are. I can not believe that someone would look at the investments we made on D and our underperformance on that side of the ball, and consider bringing in Ron as a DC. The coaching of this team was every bit as bad as the drafting. Just embarrassingly bad. With regards to BPA vs going all in on offense, I am usually a BPA guy. I think you could make an argument this year to invest heavily in the offense. This draft, and maybe the Washington careers of our next HC and of Peters is in large part going to be determined by the success of the QB we choose. If you give that QB the absolute best OL and weapons and coaching that you can, you might win less games over the next year or two, but you may also make the team much more successful in the longer term. And, given all of the cap room we have, it doesn't really have to be either or. I'm curious what the rest of the board thinks about how much Peters not yet having his own guys and structure in place, and instead being saddled with our previous scouts and FO staff, is going to to affect the likelihood of him getting great results with our abundance of picks this year.
  12. Sorry. Single parenting a 3 year old that has been super sick with the flu for 8 days and now he's given it to me. I'm not usually a grumpy old man. Next round is on me.
  13. Thanks Socrates. I'll never understand the level of patronizing snark on the internet. I'm a 47yo spots medicine physician, not a 13yo on an xbox forum. A simple, "You are allowed to interview in the first week after the championship games, but not to hire", would have sufficed. I've heard people say opposing things about the rules. But I hope you feel big! I'll be sure to message you with further questions. I hope you're not like that in person.
  14. I don’t trust my QB evaluations, but O do generally trust the top 3 to 5 posters in the draft forum and their evaluations and it seems like a great year to choose 2nd overall. I do think that if Peters thinks Caleb is significantly better, that he may be willing to trade up, for two reasons. First, San Francisco wasn’t afraid to trade high end assets to obtain their guys. Second( Peters has already shown an ability to compensate for a lack of high end draft assets with great drafting in the middle and later rounds. Also, I’d be very against this, but in Kim’s latest video, he does talk about Cousins glowingly and references that he is a free agent. I don’t want Cousins, but not idly do the leaves of Lorien fall.
  15. He do we have an in person interview scheduled with Weaver next week if we don’t know if the Ravens will be in the SB? Are you allowed to interview HC candidates next week regardless of whether their team is still playing?
  16. That’s a big nope for me. I’d rather spend that money elsewhere. Regarding Miami being so far over the cap, we know that the 49’ers were aggressive before on the trade market…I’d only want to take on big time salary however for a younger player.
  17. Everyone realizes that. That’s why we all want Ben Johnson. The Lions also howeve, have two all pro’s players and another pro bowl player. Sewell might have been the best player in college football at age 20, and we don’t have a Ragnow/Jonah Jackson on the roster. Both things can be true. Johnson makes the Lions better. The Lions’ OL talent is in a different stratosphere from ours.
  18. Man. Watching the Lions trying to imagine Ben Johnson translating here, and they just have soooooo much more talent on the OL than we do. It’s going to take some heavy investment and I think this is the year to do it at IOL given where we are drafting.
  19. I think the idea that we won’t make impact signings because we have so much roster to fill out is silly. San Francisco was noted for taking big swings. In the draft and via trade and FA. I’d be stunned if we don’t make some impact signings. The conversation about QB in all of these threads so silly. I can’t believe the number of arm chair Rivera’s that want to be where their feet are and avoid taking a QB and build the team first. I’d expect us, at a minimum, to sign an impact edge defender and to fortify the OL with the best available OT and interior guys they can. And it wouldn’t surprise me if we were super active. That’s the advantage of having a QB on a rookie contract.
  20. Highlights: Fuaga at 10 to the Jets. I keep seeing this. And Bowers at 15? That's crazy. Our two 2nds would get us to 15. I would do that in a heartbeat. Bowers is going to be an instant impact guy and a top 3 TE in the league.
  21. I like Beebe based on what the board says about him, and I love a physical blocker, but I’ll now need to go watch him. Based on those 3 clips, he moves a little like his feet are in mud. He does not look in those highlights anything like Fuaga, for instance, who probably won’t run a great 40, but is quick with quick feet in addition to being a bully.
  22. https://www.nfldraftbuzz.com/Player/stats/Brevin-Jordan-TE-Miami I liked Bevin Jordan as a draft prospect, but Jaheim Bell is like a rich man’s Bevin Jordan. Jordan tested very poorly as an athlete and also didn’t have size. A TE that’s mostly a receiving/YAC type player that doesn’t have size but also can’t run is just not that great of a prospect. Bell is explosive. He’s fast and twitchy and physical. I really like him as a Swiss army type player for a team with a creative OC. In his highlights you see him take handoffs, catch deep balls down the seam as an inline TE, screen plays, breaks a lot of tackles, hurdles a guy. He’s never going to be. Travis Kelce, but I could see him being an impact role player on a team like San Fran. I’d be ok with him as early as the 3rd and I think he’d be a great get in the 4th.
