  1. God. Giving Justin Herbert Brock Bowers just doesn't seem fair. KDawg, I think my gut on Drake Maye is about what yours is. But, the scouts all seem to love him a lot more than most on the board do. And my gut sucks. I thought Josh Allen would suck. Had no confidence in Justin Herbert. Drafting for traits can fail miserably, as it did with Trey Lance. But, I am fine taking a shot on Maye at 2. I won't instantly feel like we have the position ties up, but I'd be fine watching to see how it plays out. And Maye would be better supported than Howell. Our OL will be better. I imagine we will have better weapons. Especially if we hire Ben Johnson, we will have an OC that can better tailor a gameplan for a young QB. May strikes me as a guy that can be really, really good, if supported properly.
  2. Can anyone break down the scheme/offensive philosophies of Ben Johnson vs Slowik? Just in terms of strengths and weaknesses, tendencies, X’s and O’s? I know Slowik is off that Shannahan tree.
  3. Absolutely. Pairing Maye with a TE would be a no brainer. Especially if we hire Ben Johnson, who seems to get a lot of money out of the spot. I have seen Fuaga top 20 a lot, and top 12 occasionally. Unless we are going to try a bigger move up, I think he may be out of reach.
  4. I don’t understand why coaches want that power. I’d just look at the trends and tell myself that GM responsibilities often get a head coach fired. Why expose yourself to that? Delegate. The idea of Ben Johnson and a heavy offensive investment is appealing. Honestly, Mike Macdonald has also gotten more appealing. I feel like he’s a guy that would let you invest a lot on offense while fielding a decent defense
  5. I am really excited to hear our ES draft regulars talk about players and draft philosophies to help build an offense around a young franchise QB. I was thinking about the quality of the draft scouting on this board earlier and it's just really, really good. Anybody can miss on scouting QB's and our guys here have too. But, I literally am not sure I can remember the draft consensus amongst our top 4 ES draft guru's wildly missing on an OL prospect, for instance.
  6. But, the Sam part? I'm all about talking about Williams vs Maye vs Daniels. As long as we also get the other meat and potatoes. The should we cut Sam or keep him as a backup conversation, on top of all of the other Howell conversation just drags down the draft thread.
  7. I think we should have a separate QB discussion thread, including the draft, so we can talk about the rest of the draft here. Right now we have the Sam Howell/QB thread, the draft order thread, and the comprehensive draft thread all talking about QB's. Maybe we could at least keep Sam Howell out of here and just talk about draft prospects. It's tiresome. Sam is either gone or buried on the depth chart. Let's move on.
  8. I've been waiting weeks to post this take, so I woudl't jinx us. I hated the Sweat and Chase Young trades the day after. But, as close as a lot of these games were, those trades were a critical part of our tankathon and likely brought us the number 2 pick. I don't care how good either or both DE's look in new uniforms. Those trades brought us a shot at a franchise QB. Edit: Marijiana grammar.
  9. It hadn’t really registered with me how close the Giants are to getting one of the top 3 guys. Honestly, they could possibly still get one at 5, if the draft breaks their way. Or, if the bears wind up taking Marvin Harrison, I could the the Arizona being willing to move off their pick and trade it to the Giants.
  10. Does anybody else watch Jaheim Bell and think he’s a San Francisco type player? Fast, but physical. Great YAC guy. Versatile. I could see Jaheim being a real weapon here with a real QB1 and a creative offensive coordinator.
  11. Creamed spinach. And another order of creamed spinach.
  12. We should just sit the whole defense. Allen. Payne. Fuller. Especially our DT’s, since they could be trading blocks.
  13. All of this non-QB talk is ridiculous. A huge part of the selling point of coming here for a GM and HC candidate is having the 2nd overall pick and the opportunity to take a franchise QB. Because after that, the rest of the team building is more reliably predictable. Anybody that thinks we aren’t taking a QB at 2nd overall, if we get that pick, is going to be disappointed.
  14. Mel Kiper really likes Jayden Daniel’s here and says that some teams have him as QB1.
  15. Let’s hope that the Ravens rest Lamar Jackson today.
  16. Do we have any idea what the injury report is for tomorrow and who is likely not to play?
  17. Where would you guys rank Penix relative to the other QB's if he didn't have the injury history?
  18. The rumor is that we are looking at the DC of the Ravens as our head coach and Joe Hortiz of the Ravens as our GM. I wonder if that tilts the draft toward Jayden Daniels at all.
  19. That’s a much better list. Thanks!
  20. I’d love Hortiz. I don’t love the idea of a defensive HC, but if we chose one, Mike Macdonald has been awesome this season. The downside is that we might not have the same caliber offensive coordinator and if we get a great one, he will be hired as a HC. I guess the upside is, that Macdonald could probably field an average defensive unit in his sleep without having great personnel.
  21. https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/2024-nfl-free-agency-kirk-cousins-chris-jones-and-tee-higgins-headline-top-50/amp/ There are basically zero TE’s in FA. I’m going to assume we don’t give up any assets to move up and we take Maye at the 2nd overall spot. We know we need to upgrade IOL and RT, but I really think we need to also upgrade our offensive weapons. I’d be bet in favor of adding a high profile FA WR such as Tee Higgins or Mike Evan’s. We are going to need a TE, and that guy is going to need to come from the draft. Without scrolling through 50 pages, what do our TE options look like in this draft?
  22. Is CJ Steoud going to play next week? He is injured, isn’t he?
  23. If I were a GM thinking about this job, that haul of pics and the cap room would make me hard. Also, even though it hurts our strength of schedule, I’m going to root for the bears to beat the packers next week and for fields to look great. I want the Bears to be willing to trade that pick.
  24. A trade up for Williams and Leggette in the second would be so exciting.
  25. I feel like most of this should abe in the QB thread and comprehensive draft thread but maybe it’s nice to have it all in one place. If we draft Williams or Maye, Howell should not be our backup. We should trade him even if it’s for a 6th. We need an established veteran QB that can help guide our QB in the film room, on the practice field, and help him navigate becoming a professional in the NFL.
