  1. Good post Mr. Sin. What am I doing? Idk, I used to sweep my half block in baltimore from broken glass, dead rats, dime bags etc bc the latin kids would run up and down the sidewalk in their bare feet. I used to clean the playground. Get the teens to smoke blunts away from the playground. I would always bring a big bag of sidewalk chalk and give it to kids and leave some behind. I help my wifes family a good bit with paying for electricity in the winter when they get behind, winterizing their windows, buying space heaters. I driving to pick them all up and bring them to our house for Thanksgiving bc they rely on expired food given to them by their church and dont have money for turkey etc. Now that I live in Columbia, theres not much to do in my neighborhood. Before i could leave diapers or canned food outside my building and it would be gone in a half second. We would make an extra plate for Mr. james in our building. I should do a food drive for thanksgiving and christmas. I def want to help sponsor some urban football jerseys and prom dresses. I need to do more.
  2. I usually go on a beer run during lunch on Fridays. Usually I will get a sixer or bomber of something Ive never had before, usually an expensive imperial stout or barrel aged old ale. Today, a lot of my tried and true easy drinkers were fresh and im kinda happy about it. Fresh sculpin, fresh grapefruit sculpin, fresh laguinitas sucks and 2 bottles of maines something beautiful. All tasty easy drinkers and I might even wake up tomorrow not sluggish.
  3. Change starts at the local level imo. Help the people around you. I dont live in a poor area anymore so I dont have a stoop where I can sweep up the broken glass, condoms, baggies, trash after a Friday or Sat night but Im still going to pay the neighbors kid to rake my tiny lawn or shovel my 10 feet of walkway. Push kids on the swing at the nearby apartment complex playground bc I seem to be only parent around. Kaep did a "know your rights" seminar, more of that please. Sponsor jerseys for a urban youth football team so the kids feel good, i guarantee they will hang that jersey with pride in their bedroom and stare at it until they fall asleep. A Dem vote in CA means nothing, much like a Dem vote in MD means nothing. But perhaps a Kaep endorsement of Hillary could have motivated voters in places like Michigan, Ohio, PA, Fl to vote Dem. To now dismiss Kaep's message bc he didnt cast a meaningless vote seems insincere to me but honestly, people chiming in and giving their opinion of Kaep, as if this is a thumbs up or thumbs down thing, is odd. Good for Kaep. What are you doing? I guarantee you, we all are not doing enough. (I feel like i did a pat myself on the back, self gratifying post and Im not sure why .. i must feel guilty about something)
  4. 24.7 sports has the terps as leaders to land no. 5 overall recruit Duvall (pg) and no. 22 overall dj harvey (sg). I dont know how much this plays into a HS kids decision, but I hope the Terps look good early and help influence their decisions. I know Diamond Stone dragged his announcement out and tweeted a positive terp message after we beat wisconsin 2 years ago. I do believe the terps playing well 2 seasons ago = stone commitment. http://247sports.com/Season/2017-Basketball/CompositeRecruitRankings?InstitutionGroup=HighSchool
  5. http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/terps/tracking-the-terps/bal-maryland-basketball-receives-letters-of-intent-from-two-top-recruits-20161110-story.html Morsell and Fernando signed their Letters of Intent. http://www.umterps.com/SportSelect.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=29700&SPID=120728&SPSID=716389 Terps basketball is here. UMD v American tonight at 7.
  6. Hello beer - my old friend, I think we are going to be seeing a lot more of each other over the next few weeks. Kinda rough time right now. Thank you. remaining truly yours, Mr. Pink (Goose Island Bourbon Co Stout comes out black friday, Nov 25 and will be available for sure in MD, so I assume in DC as well. I was able to buy unlimited bottles last year so Im not going to stand in line for a limited bottle release and hope I will again be able to buy unlimited bottles this year as well -- hoping the infection scare wasnt the only reason the bottles stayed on the shelves and didnt fly off last year)
  7. Ive tried about 5 of WW offerings and they are all really really good. Is there a pattern to their shipments? I was told that they (they = guys like you in the distribution biz) dont know when or what they get. They juts get what ever WW sends them. So far it seems like they do DC shipments about every 2-3 weeks. The harvest ales are out and about as well.
  8. http://www.testudotimes.com/maryland-terps-basketball/2016/11/2/13496210/jake-layman-record-portland-trail-blazers-debut Look at our boy Jake, all grown up. I wish we focused our offense on him more his senior year vs letting him be a side piece to newcomers stone/carter. "Former Maryland basketball forward Jake Layman broke records in his NBA debut, scoring 17 points on 6-of-8 shooting in eight minutes against the Golden State Warriors. His five made three-pointers tied for the most any rookie in the NBA has made in his debut and his 17 points were the most by a Trail Blazers rookie since all-star Damian Lillard."
  9. No more open scholarships for 2017 .... I guess they knew espn no. 5 overall Trevon Duval (DE- IMG Academy) wasnt coming to College Park. I was following his recruitment but its been quiet with him and the Terps. I also agree that Im kinda excited to see college run-the-plays offense and not the force feed the post approach or letting guys like Robert Carter put up 3s bc he wants to show NBA range and improve his NBA stock (im a big fan of Robert Carter, wish he stayed).
  10. Yes, the hit when Desean was on the ground was a penalty and was called. No, the hit on Desean after he made that long catch was not a penalty. The Bengal defender did not use the crown of his helmet so whether or not it was outside the tackle box is not relevant. Desean was an established runner and helmet to helmet contact is permissible (as long as it is not launching or crown). I know he is a Redskin and it was a hard hit and there was H2H contact ... but we have to be somewhat objective. H2H contact with an established runner is permissible. 10. Hit on D. Jackson: There was some debate as to whether an illegal-hit penalty should have been called on Bengals safety George Iloka for his helmet-to-helmet hit Sunday on Redskins wide receiver DeSean Jackson. But a helmet-to-helmet hit is illegal only in certain circumstances in which the player who absorbs it is deemed defenseless; one such case is a receiver in the process of making a catch. In this case, the officials apparently ruled that Jackson already had completed the process of making the catch and had established himself as a runner. A helmet-to-helmet hit on a ball carrier is legal. That was the view of Mike Pereira, the NFL’s former vice president of officiating who is now a rules analyst for Fox. Pereira wrote on Twitter: “In the Washington game, Jackson was a runner, he was not defenseless. It is not a foul.”
  11. But the Bengal defender didnt butt, spear or ram Desean. Helmet to helmet contact on an established runner is called when ..." A 15-yard penalty will be called if a runner or a tackler initiates forcible contact by delivering a blow with the top/crown of his helmet against an opponent when both players clearly are outside the tackle box (an area extending from tackle-to-tackle and from 3 yards beyond the line of scrimmage to the offensive team's end line). Incidental contact by the helmet of a runner or a tackler against an opponent would not be deemed a foul" If the H2H happened to Desean before he completed 2 steps and when he was a defenseless player in the act of making a catch, then yes, thats a 15 yarder. But Desean took 3 steps, establishing him as a runner and the tackler didnt use his crown. Under your interpretation, any time a tackler's facemask or helmet makes contact with a runners helmet, its 15 yards. They changes the rule a few years ago to avoid that interpretation. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap1000000238662/article/new-nfl-rules-crownofhelmet-change-to-help-runner-defender http://operations.nfl.com/the-rules/2016-nfl-rulebook/#rule12
  12. Did you watch the video? I think (at least I hope) that I am sensitive to mental health and I do wish the officers could have shown restraint but she rammed a police car with her car after they had her stopped .... it seems like there was enough justification here for the use of lethal force as she actually did do an act of aggression against officers. This isnt a case where an officer "perceives" a threat and fires prematurely. At least here the officers fired after a threat and not before. I assume you didnt watch the video bc I would hope that anyone - white, black, latino - would agree that you shouldnt ram a police car. This is a case of justified force imo but I do wish officers would still show restraint. http://abc7.com/news/woman-killed-in-officer-involved-shooting-in-torrance-identified/1583720/
  13. Im not trying to defend the League but Norman said Green was pushing Norman's hands up causing the illegal hands to the face. I have seen video of 2 of the calls and both times Norman is clearly putting his hands to Greens face without Green pushing his hands up. Re the Desean h2h - I think Blandino already explained a few days ago that Desean had taken 3 steps so he was an established runner and not a defenseless receiver in the act of making a catch. You are allowed to do H2H on established runners. I could still see a ref crew throw a flag on that hit maybe 25% of the time. Tough for Desean bc imo he was defenseless as he really didnt have his feet fully under him. Re Crowder - clear missed call. The refs missed a face mask call. I dont think this game was as one sided officiated as this board or Josh Norman think. I honestly thought it would be worse in terms of after whistle stuff but besides Peko, who got called, there wasnt anything much.
  14. Of course I dont! By the very definition of "whitesplain", a white person like myself is incapable of understanding anything that has to do with race, racism, struggle or inequality. We must rely on POC to tell us how we are supposed to feel, think, act and react in regards to all things race relations. ^^ this is my satire response to anyone who uses terms like "whitesplain". I think its funny, sad, hypocritical and a result of a shallow approach. All it does is feed the "outraged white america" to use terms like "blacksplain" or "blacktears" .. like I said, Im not interested in elementary school playground name calling. I dont give those 2 polar opposites any thought or consideration. (Of course, me as white person telling POC how, where and when they should protest as to not inconvenience my fragile whiteness is part definition of "whitesplain" .. as best I can understand.) Benning - I like you as as a poster on here and think you are honest and open. What would you do and how do you think you would feel if you were white (assuming youre a POC)? If I was a POC I think I would be on the front lines with my black fist raised wearing my best suit in polished shoes.
  15. I watched this penalty a few more times (I linked the video in thread or in another thread). Initially I thought it was a justified call, 50/50 on whether it gets called but enough of an arm extension from Garcon to make it not a phantom call .... but looking at the replay, the contact is right at 5 yards from the LOS. The more I see it, the more it looks like a ticky tacky call ..... with a very late flag, I dont think the ref throws the flag if Garcon doesnt catch it and the ball goes to another receiver. These last 2 games have been very frustrating. Missed opportunities.
  16. "whitesplain" - a term used to generalize an entire race in a negative way ... by someone who thinks its unfair that their entire race gets generalized in a negative way. IMO a speaker who wants genuine equality or, at the bare minimum, just wants honest discussion but uses terms like "whitesplain" or "whitetears" just degenerates their message. For every "outragds white american", there seems to be an "irrational black american". Those two polar groups can go to the playground and call each other names and go tit-for-tat while the grown ups have a grown up and honest discussion.
  17. "We couldn't try on clothes," Colvin says. "You had to take a brown paper bag and draw a diagram of your foot ... and take it to the store. Can you imagine all of that in my mind? My head was just too full of black history, you know, the oppression that we went through. CLAUDETTE: One of them said to the driver in a very angry tone, "Who is it?" The motorman pointed at me. I heard him say, "That's nothing new . . . I've had trouble with that 'thing' before." He called me a "thing." They came to me and stood over me and one said, "Aren't you going to get up?" I said, "No, sir." He shouted "Get up" again. I started crying, but I felt even more defiant. I kept saying over and over, in my high-pitched voice, "It's my constitutional right to sit here as much as that lady. I paid my dare, it's my constitutional right!" I knew I was talking back to a white policeman, but I had had enough. One cop grabbed one of my hands and his partner grabbed the other and they pulled me straight up out of my seat. My books went flying everywhere. I went limp as a baby—I was too smart to fight back. They started dragging me backwards off the bus. One of them kicked me. I might have scratched one of them because I had long nails, but I sure didn't fight back. I kept screaming over and over, "It's my constitutional right!" I wasn't shouting anything profane—I never swore, not then, not ever. I was shouting out my rights. It just killed me to leave the bus. I hated to give that white woman my seat when so many black people were standing. I was crying hard. The cops put me in the back of a police car and shut the door. They stood outside and talked to each other for a minute, and then one came back and told me to stick my hands out the open window. He handcuffed me and then pulled the door open and jumped in the backseat with me. I put my knees together and crossed my hands over my lap and started praying. All ride long they swore at me and ridiculed me. They took turns trying to guess my bra size. They called me ""n-word" ****" and cracked jokes about parts of my body. I recited the Lord's Prayer and the Twenty-third Psalm over and over in my head, trying to push back the fear. I assumed they were taking me to juvenile court because I was only fifteen. I was thinking, Now I'm gonna be picking cotton, since that's how they punished juveniles—they put you in a school out in the country where they made you do field work during the day. But we were going in the wrong direction. They kept telling me I was going to Atmore, the women's penitentiary. Instead, we pulled up to the police station and they led me inside. More cops looked up when we came in and started calling me "Thing" and "Whore." They booked me and took my fingerprints. Then they put me back in the car and drove me to the city jail—the adult jail. Someone led me straight to a cell without giving me any chance to make a phone call. He opened the door and told me to get inside. He shut it hard behind me and turned the key. The lock fell into place with a heavy sound. It was the worst sound I ever heard. It sounded final. It said I was trapped. When he went away, I looked around me: three bare walls, a toilet, and a cot. Then I feel down on my knees in the middle of the cell and started crying again. I didn't know if anyone knew where I was or what had happened to me. I had no idea how long I would be there. I cried and I put my hands together and prayed like I had never prayed before. http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=101719889 --------------------- The 15 year old girl who refused to give up her seat. Hard to imagine that was only 70 years ago. I would def go to a book signing if she is doing one. I really hope so. As a (white) dad of a inter racial daughter, Im going to have some hard-to-have conversations in the future. I quoted a lot bc I found the story riveting and worth page space. I wish I could have quoted the whole thing.
  18. http://sports.yahoo.com/video/pierre-garcon-gets-called-offensive-173700374.html Video of the called Garcon PI ... there is a slight push but thats a harsh penalty that probably doesnt get called more than it gets called. I thought we were going to win the game before the flag came out ... such a frustrating loss.
  19. On the broadcast, they slow mo'd it and Garcon got pushed while still in bounds, on the line. He threw his hands up to try and draw a flag. Outside of the non-call on the Crowder face mask, I didnt think the officiating was that bad. I wish they didnt call the offensive PI on Garcon bc I dont think garcon really pushed off that hard/gained an advantage but his arm was fully extended and that "looks" like a push off. I dont think officiating decided the game. I am very curious to see the video of the 5 hand to face flags Norman got to see if Green was pushing Norman's hands up .. but even then, that is a vet on vet match up and its part of the chess match Norman and Green were playing. Bree did hold on the fumble recovery. That has to be called.
  20. A trial lawyer should only object when you have to, otherwise it looks like you are trying to either hide things from the jury or dont think the jury is smart enough to decide what is important and what is not important .. if a reading of the Constitution, while technically a valid objection, is harmless, you dont object. Particularly with a rural jury and the US Constitution. On the flip side, as the prosecutor, I imagine you want to keep this as a tunnel vision case against the particular defendants and their particular acts and not allow the defendants to make this case appear like a case against the US Constitution or a rural work-the-land limited-govt mentality. And having the defendant read parts of the Constitution as his defense would not be helpful in that regard. Always seems odd to me that lawyers on both sides can spend 100 of hours and tons of money preparing a case for trial ... only to have it decided by 6 or 12 random people who could care less about what your brilliant educated expert says. Go to any McDonalds or Walmart and pull 6 or 12 random people from the line and those are your jurors. That is who is going to decide your case that you spent 2 years and countless hours preparing for. In Maryland, we have very sophisticated jurors and I think these guys would be found guilty 100 out of 100 times ... but up in rural Oregon the prosecutors are 0 for 1.
  21. Norman mentioned a few times that he is speaking on behalf of the locker room. I see it as a leadership moment, Normand has the big pay check and can absorb a fine better than an outspoken Chris Baker or RJF and I think he felt like he needed to speak for those guys.
  22. http://www.theblaze.com/stories/2016/10/21/teens-brazen-attack-on-officers-caught-on-bodycam-could-have-been-the-next-ferguson-police-chief-says/ Maybe Im being dramatic but it seems like a lot more people feel emboldened to confront and even get violent with police nowadays. Thankfully no one was killed. In this situation, I dont think lethal force should have been considered, it should be the last resort. If a suspect doesnt have a gun or knife or lead pipe, I hope an officer takes some lumps but doesnt pull the trigger. I think things are only going to get worse. Even when people are wrong, and these people are clearly wrong, they now think they are justified in what ever they do. Good job officers for keeping a cool head, I hope the people involved get due..
  23. There are no evidence rules or right to an attorney in GJ presentations. The prosecutor could just tell the GJ what the video would show or what the confidential informant is anticipated to testify to .... and with no defense being presented and no defense atty there .... every case is a slam dunk for indictment with a GJ. Literally, the prosecutor can say and do what they want ... and it is all sealed. You never know what goes on behind those closed doors. I imagine the prosecutor took less than 1 min to "present" the case ... and a lady was held for 93 days bc she was accused of selling $40 of 8 xanax pills? Why is Mississipi even indicting $40 px pill cases? Let alone when the "crime" didnt even happen. Mississippi, you suck. ------------------------ my mind is blown over the sacramento incident above. WTF?! .... Im not one to think the police or any state or fed employee should be getting any more benefits than they already receive but I imagine officers get burnt out. They need mandatory mini vacations and hour per day limits. Officers in Md can be on the clock for 18 hours a day at times or 40 hours over 3 days. Just too much. If we limit tractor trailer drivers to 8 hours, why cant we limit officers?
  24. https://www.washingtonpost.com/national/jailed-96-days-on-bogus-charge-it-is-no-ones-fault/2016/10/19/edc77f12-95d1-11e6-9cae-2a3574e296a6_story.html#comments Be very thankful if you live in Maryland where you have to see a magistrate within 24 hours of detention. Wow. GJ Prosecutors need to take their job more seriously or we need to afford accused the right to be represented by counsel and put forth a defense. Any prosecutor can get a GJ to indict anyone for anything. Just bc a GJ indicts cannot be justification for months or years of detention. GJ are a joke. This is mind blowing.
