  1. You get where I am going though? Do we see this team operating with more than 2 LBs for a majority of defensive plays? Payne is one of the best run defenders at his position with great depth at DT and the edge rushers are both great run defenders. The strength of the front four defending the run allows you to get that extra safety on the field most of the time, occasionally playing 'heavier' with a LB like Hudson, but rarely needing to.
  2. He's a WLB though, right? You'd have to see Holcomb shift inside or to the other side with Davis in the middle. Holcomb is probably best long term as a MLB/WLB with Davis to his left playing SLB/MLB. Playing a lot of 4-2-5 as many teams do these days. Not sure Hudson will be more than a role player, or any other player brought in for that matter. Admittedly, maybe things change without Landon Collins stealing LB snaps, but not playing LB.
  3. Oh man...thanks In fairness, I didn't have glasses on.
  4. Lamar Miller hobbling along...so, he's clearly losing out to Peyton Barber if they keep 4. If they keep 4, please let be someone else's training camp release rather than the aforementioned two. Really hoping Samuel = 0.5 at RB and they hope for health with Gibson, McKissic and Patterson.
  5. I hope Patterson can return punts and kicks. Be the Sproles like player Rivera envisions him as. 'Cause I really would like to see them move on from Steve Sims and Isaiah Wright. We've mentioned some brutal drops by Cam Sims, but those two...
  6. I should have specified that I was specifically referring to injuries occurred during NFL tenure. College programs, and the corresponding rehab, do not compare to the resources available at the highest level. That's where advances are always seen first. The highest paying clients...and the NFL is up there.
  7. The ability for athletes to receive high quality surgery and the rehabilitation tools available has exponentially changed in the last 25 years. Gary Baxter, if anyone remembers 15 years ago, tore both patellar tendons and he was done. Now, you can come back from that. Outside of the Alex Smith injuries, I have a lot of confidence in a player being able to contribute within a calendar year of a major joint injury.
  8. I guess Humphries could be back for a second year, but I am not sure we'll see that happen. That does open up a spot next year. So, theoretically Harmon and Cam Sims could both be here long-term. McLaurin/C.Sims Brown/AGG Samuel/Humphries For 2021, you have Humphries and Cam Sims. And you probably keep a maximum of 6, so two must go. Harmon and Milne should get to the PS. Probably look elsewhere in the draft next year too with clear needs elsewhere and QB draft capital to consider, so might be the same group for a couple of years.
  9. He was injured. It became guaranteed, so this wasn't a decision that the team made to keep him. That said, it makes sense to keep him unless he's detrimental to the locker room. It's a wash for cap anyway.
  10. If he wants a job, RR will give him one. Say what you will about Snyder, but they have always been top spenders for coaching staff's. With so much riding on Davis being successful, I wouldn't be surprised if we hear something soon.
  11. Why not? What if you roll with Fitz for two years and Heinicke for the third? If Heinicke is injured or doesn't cut it then you have your higher draft pick and you go get your QB with an experienced and elite D. If he does play well, they're deep in the playoffs and out of reach of elite talent. Maybe Heinicke only plays at a starting level for one or two years, but that might be okay. Rookie QBs buy regimes and coaches time but often fail to produce results (winning).
  12. As previously discussed, signing FitzMagic is potentially the bridge to Heinicke. Arguably the ideal mentor. He will get some snaps over the next year or two and you make a decision.
  13. I agree, but they also didn't have their x-factor Devin White that week. And why the selection of Davis was key for WFT. But yes, they could be special. It will help that they'll be the underdogs to win the division this year. Gives them an easy chip.
  14. Trent is only 0.75" taller and Leno has the slight edge in arm length. I've been one to cite height as a requirement, but this is one year we're talking about.
  15. If you get Collins to buy in, he is a better option as the 7th guy in the box than Hudson. To me, that's partly what it comes down to. Getting the best players on the field.
  16. Seeing it on offense too. Curl/Fuller on defense and Gibson/Samuel on offense. Very typical for your WR3 to get official starts, and the nickel on defense. It's a different NFL than 15 years ago. With more safety measures the middle of the field has opened up and the value of players maximizing and limiting those opportunities has risen. Curl jumping in all over the place will only help his overall game flourish. It's only one more year in this role anyway. Would love to find a young FS in his mold in the next couple of drafts. Super impressive start to his career.
  17. And the nice thing about Ron Rivera's team has been that they allowed Kerrigan to play out the end of his contract and get the money. We've seen players get big contracts and in those last couple of years they are cut when the guaranteed money has been paid and their peak performance is past. I think there is a conscious effort to honor the contracts to be able to say it to future FA signings.
  18. Kerrigan can start one or two more years on a depleted team. I think he's still got something in the tank. I get it from both parties. It's time. Frustrating draft pick at the time. Seemed like they drafted a 43 LE to play OLB in a 34. Trading down and passing on the elite talent on that draft (Watt) was foolish then and now. He's done as well here as I could have hoped. He's no Orakpo.
  19. The great thing is that I think McCain finally hit his stride at FS sometime last season. Really think this may be his best season as a pro, might even be the highpoint of his career when we get to a time of hindsight.
  20. I didn't want Watson pre-complete mess, and to my disappointment Rodgers seems like a pipedream. Don't love Russ Wilson with this O. You may be right. Problem is I see this team doing well with Fitzmagic and that doesn't get you a top QB.
  21. They are close to that one more piece now though. A top QB would put this team as a SB contender. Heck this defense alone could get them to the championship game.
  22. Both 1st and 2nd lines are looking very strong. Maybe not the 2nd line DEs. Certainly should help improve everyone's game. Competition is key for young players to reach their peak potential.
  23. My take on Monday was that they made the decision to sign both players who were known to be in for a visit (Leno and McCain). Starting spots are hard to come by this late in the game. The money talks can take a couple of days for the vet FAs at this point of the process. I expect the McCain news to come soon.
