I still remember him pulling his hair out in the halftime interview versus LSU, 'that kid is everywhere, he's killing us' type comments... and then he let Dallas Turner off the leash for that ejection-worthy hit that knocked Daniels out of the game after putting up 382 yards and 28 points in 3 quarters. Freaking Saban.

No matter how many times I watched that game I thought it was a bad example of who he wants to be at the next level, personally. I don't like how much he relied on his legs and he wasn't imo throwing it as well as he did in other games. Now, the defense was giving him some funky looks and trying to bait him into things. He didn't fall for them and i guess i have to give him credit for that. But I never liked that game for him really. But pretty much everyone else , Saban included apparently, agrees with you.

He definitely was. Bama had no answer for Daniels. He was fantastic against them. I watched that tape numerous times. And imo this years Bama game was the best all around game of Daniels career. He had multiple drops, an int that was not his fault and was unstoppable with his legs. Daniels is going to be exciting as hell to watch. I just hope he can stay healthy.

I dont know why I felt like he was late on a bunch of throws. I know I got that from Kurt Warners film session on it so maybe i will rewatch it without him and see how i feel.

I also hope if we pick Maye that the JD fans will be supportive.

Hooper has directed his castigation of "biases and narratives" to the JD critics.

I loathe lazy and simplistic bias in particular, in any argument. "Narrative" often gets used in a presumptive pejorative sense when of course the word is really a neutral term. I prefer using the term "false narrative" or applying some sort of appropriate qualifying adjective in front of the word. Some false narratives are promulgated with knowing, deliberate intent. That's the worst.

Most here that are false, to whatever degree,  will be the product of a bias with the presented  arguments getting repeated and expanded until they are more a whole tapestry of arguments considered truth, though they may largely still be legitimately debated and. countered

Over the course of the thread I've seen all of that from some hard liners in both the JD and Maye camps. So it's not one-sided, though the sides making the most noise has switched places back and forth over time.

Overall, while still full of internet opinionator hijinks, it's actually been one of the better QB debate threads we've had in quite awhile. 👍

Sure beats the ____ out of the Heinikie and Howell daze. 😁

Just to add to this: I don't think yall know (or appreciate) how difficult what we do here actually is. Getting so many people from so many diverse backgrounds in one room is difficult enough. But to have them debate something that really has no definitive answer with any kind of intelligence and grace is next to ****ing impossible. I read and write on like a 3rd grade level compared to @The Consigliere but because of what we are able to do here, even I was able to learn something (lots actually) from our back and forth. I started by calling him biased and we ended at yea he is biased and he should be and I understand it. We all are in some way its how we make choices.

Anyway. Im in a loving mood so I wanted yall to know I think very highly of most of you and you should be proud of yourselves even if we dont always agree. This **** is not easy to do and we do it well imo.

Ill give you Trent but the rest of the OL was nothing special. We didn't have Moses or Scherff yet. Alfred Morris was a 6th round rookie and definition of system back. I'd take McLaurin over Garcon but its pretty even, but there was no other WR worth a damn. TE is a wash(old Cooley vs. old Ertz). Will definitely give you Shanahan over KK though, but at the time Shanahan wasn't really considered the same mind he is now. Most people thought he was a nepo hire.

The real question is if the scheme will be as good. We were running one of the best and least complex (from our QB perspective) schemes the league had ever seen. I doubt very seriously what we run this season can compare. But if it can......hoooo boy

He has to keep saying it for the people in the back

    Text from tweet:

Reporter: “There’s speculation that you may not want to go to Washington. Do you want to just squash that?”

Jayden Daniels: “I’m blessed to go wherever I’m called. Whoever calls my phone, (when the) commissioner gets up and says my name, I’ll be blessed, and they’re going to get my all.”

Reporter (later): “To clarify, would you be OK being drafted by Washington?”

    JD: “Yeah. 100 percent.”

During the lengthy interview, Daniels repeatedly said he’s not sure what to expect tomorrow night and wants to go as high as possible.

One of the top replies to this is:

This is what I mean by people gaslighting themselves (and I will use a different term going forward - just want to make sure I am clear)

Cause I guarantee the same people that keep bringing it up, will keep bringing it up. Its because they want to dislike him.

I'd rather he focus on being the best QB ever. Why add the running caveat?

This coupled with his goal of winning the Heisman instead of winning a natty is just...concerning.

He's everything I thought Williams would be. Not a bad kid but just...something is off character wise.

God I really really hope we don't draft him.

From the same interview that the tweet quotes.

Running, though, is not what Daniels said is his greatest strength as a football player.

"I would say my football IQ," he said. "I pride myself on being a smart football player. Being able to eliminate what the defense isn't doing. I kind of have two or three things in my head pre-snap. ... Being able to check into runs and check protections based on leverage and stuff like that. I take pride in learning about football and knowing football at a high level."

Gaslighting is worse then lying, it's malicious in nature, a form of manipulation.

Right. Why make yourself hate the guy with bull**** like he doesn’t want to play here and he had character issues when none of it is based in reality. You can not like him and not lie to yourself about him. It’s fine.

You don’t see people calling Maye some kind of malcontent or stupid or anything like that. Why play into that ****? Cause if he is here you are gonna do it the entire time and to what end?

Of course people who think he's not a good prospect couldn't possibly think that for real reasons. We all must just be gaslighting ourselves.

This is a good example of you gaslighting yourself actually lol.

You can question the prospect. Obviously I didn’t say you couldn’t. You know that. You can read, it’s like a single sentence. But you said it anyway. Why do this to yourself?

Someone else posted something along these lines as well (just can't quite remember who) but Daniels just looks much different than Maye when he gets hit. With Maye it tends to be more of a defender dragging him to the ground. With Daniels it tends to be more a defender hitting him and Daniels flying a bit. Maybe it's a center of gravity thing? Maybe a combination of center of gravity, Jayden's slight frame, and his propensity for splaying out vs curling up when he gets hit. Either way, it's concerning.

You see more injuries with guys getting rolled up on than you do with guy being blasted out of the back of their own end zone from 29 yards out. So….there is hope?

    Mild curiosity…

People who are in the Jayden Daniels camp and can’t fathom why anyone would be worried:

Can you not see people’s concerns with Daniels?

And those of you in the Maye camp:

Can you not see Daniels potential?

I feel like these things get ignored in this convo when people are all in for one or the other.

I hate to put myself in a camp but I can very much see what worries people about Daniels and it worries me too.
