  1. I tagged you because we had a long debate about this. So you think they should have paid a big contract to an edge rusher who had 7 1/ 2 sacks and 25 tackles last year and has averaged 4 sacks a season or simply allow him to most likely walk with no compensation. If they felt he would be as valuable as you believe he is a free agent and they can get him back and still retain the pick they received. Sorry keeping him just does not make any sense.
  2. Yeah I was surprised when posters claimed it was his decision. The release from the team, where it read "mutually agreed to part ways" or whatever is what is said often when someone gets fired.
  3. Now do his bad games, plenty to chose from. I am getting tired of the love for Justin Fields. As I had said after year 3 we know who he is, an inconsistent QB who has brilliant moments but can't be counted on for 17 weeks. You don't pass up the chance to get a player who could totally change your franchise for a guy like Fields and picks. Just pull the trigger now when you have that rare opportunity to get a prospect like Caleb Williams.
  4. Oh no doubt he had some great receivers. But both Manning and Brady also made players like Auston Collie and Wes Welker into far far better players than they really were. That was my main point, a great QB can turn average receivers into very productive receivers.
  5. A great QB can make his weapons better too. Peyton Manning made something called Austin Collie a viable fantasy football starter. Other than a few years with Moss Brady's receivers were pedestrian. Bears have plenty of options to improve their OL and add a weapon (they already have a WR1).
  6. Joe Burrow went to the worst team in the league with the worst OL and took then to the Super Bowl. That's what a great QB can do to a franchise. They still have their own high 1st as well as other picks to improve their OL and add weapons.
  7. He went from head coach to "advisor". Sure sounds like he got fired to me.
  8. They will move away from Fields because after 3 years we know exactly who he is. And what he is is an inconsistent quarterback who has amazing moments but you just can't count on him for 17 games plus a long playoff run.
  9. This is a great summary. I totally believe Pats and Giants fans were salivating at the thought of Drake May. I also believe some of our fans downgrade him because of Sam Howell even if they are not aware that they are doing it. The pick should be Maye IMO. He is not a flash in the pan who rocketed up draft boards, he was a 5 star recruit who has been at the top of most draft boards from the start of the season.
  10. Great explanation, thanks. But I always thought Jimmy Johnson created this to measure the value of the pick, not sure it went so far as factoring in the 5th year option but I could be wrong. I'd still take 5 high 2nd rounders even without the 5th year option. Especially now that teams are forced to sign their franchise QB to big deals before that 5th year.
  11. But I never made that argument against JJ. I said he looks like Jimmy Clausen with wheels. All I'm saying is he looks like a college QB but not an NFL QB, like hundreds of others who came before him. His skills don't look next level to me.
  12. Given all the good/great players in the league taken after the first half of the first round those numbers surprise me. The first pick is worth 2600 points and the 40th pick is worth 500 just sounds so off to me. I would certainly rather have 5 early second round picks than 1 pick at #2. But they know I guess
  13. The thing is we have no idea how much draft capital it'll take to move up next year. They could finish with the 13th- 15th pick. Are we going to give up all the pics that we got in the trade back a year later, or possibly more, to get to where we are already sitting today? With no guarantee next year's top 2 QBs are as good as these 2? Just pull the trigger when you have the chance I say.
  14. He was a fine college QB. The road to the NFL is littered with good college quarterbacks who didn't make it.
  15. Chase Young played 9 games for the Niners. He recorded 10 tackles, 2 1/2 sacks and as we saw above continued his pattern of quitting on plays. Had they retained him this is the production we would've gotten out of him in a lost season. Then they would either lose him for nothing (no guarantee of a comp pick as they will be active in free agency) or overpay for a pass rusher who can't get to the QB and managed basically 1 tackle a game on a DL that gave him plenty of opportunities given their talent.
  16. Yes it was just one game but I don't think you can just dismiss how bad he looked on the biggest stage. Or how nobody was talking about him as a top 10 pick until the Texas game, which was also just one game.
  17. You are putting Lawrence in the same group as Herbert and Allen? This is what I've been talking about. The love for Trevor Lawrence is so puzzling to me.
  18. You are making excuses. Some of these near misses was a result of poor throws. FYI Red Zone does not just show TDs. They switch to games that show regular plays too, especially when they are close late. Every QB suffers from drops. His may be higher but a few more drops over the course of a season won't change his numbers that much. And they are pretty middle of the road for a "franchise quarterback". He just misses too many throws to carry that label.
  19. And yet people still refer to him as a franchise QB.
  20. You guys have sold me on McClay, obviously Dallas has drafted really well. He is currently the VP of Player Personnel. Could they not offer him a higher title, like President, and that would prevent Jerry from blocking the move? .
  21. I don't see how you can say a QB who is not even in the top 12 in his best seasons has become a franchise QB. The love Trevor Lawrence continues to get is very puzzling to me.
  22. Did I read that they are interviewing Martin Mayhew for the GM position? Why exactly? In addition I though the plan was to hire a GM and let him decide the coach. So why are they lining up interviews for the coaching position before a GM has been named?
  23. The Washington RT gave a Wylie performance, he killed what chance they had.
  24. This is why I laughed for a week at all the people who were pimping Penix after the Texas game. Not just message boards, people who are paid a lot of money for their opinion always overreact to what they have seen last. Penix was always so far behind the other 3 he was not even worth being mentioned for the Commanders pick. And I will stand on the position until proven wrong that JJ McCarthy is not an NFL franchise QB.
