They've been pretty consistent in what their goals are for a long time - unification of Taiwan and recognition of the South and East China Sea as "theirs". The extent to which they've made noise about these issues have varied over the years. For a while they didn't do much at all, because they wanted closer ties with the US and the tech transfer to develop their own economy. The recent noise has I believe to do with the forthcoming elections in Taiwan, in an effort to intimidate voters to get them to vote for the KMT, which at least recognizes "One China". My understanding is they've already started to dial it down a notch. Its unclear if they want to go beyond that - the "second island chain", and become the hegemon at least in East Asia, and push the US out at least militarily.

Babbages wasn't anything great ... basically just a Walden books for games/software. No playable systems out, I can't even remember demos running. Of course they focused on PCs (and Amiga while it was still popular) and not consoles. At least the one in Fair Oaks

I grew up really close to Fair Oaks, which is still around, but haven't been there in a long time. I do remember some of the stores in the 80s/90s like Kay-Bee, K&K. My older siblings were into D&D and I also got into it a bit so spent a fair amount of time at Whats Your Game and My Hobby, and remember them going out of business in the early 90s marking an "end of a era". Also remember Chess King (clothing store) for some reason ... I remember the last minute Christmas shopping runs we would go on. Went to TJ for high school, I remember for football pre-game we would sometimes go to Landmark. They had that food court and arcade. I remember playing Virtua Fighter, Marvel vs. Capcom, WWF, Time Crisis, and Terminator. Would dump like $20 in hour sometimes. Landmark actually had a decent interior, at least compared to Fair Oaks which was kind of bland, I think there were trying to pull of some sort of Buck Rogers / Star Wars Cloud City / Rollerball futuristic look but it just never worked for me When I went back for a reunion a few years ago I noticed the whole thing was pretty much shut down. I had been out of the area for some time, so didn't pay attention to that stuff. I also remember some malls in California dying while I was there from 2010-2020. Would also go to Springfield, especially since some of my friends lived around there. Also there was that arcade, had the Bally's pinball machines I liked to play. Also had Another Universe and that comic book store, I interned around there in college as well and one of my co-workers liked going there, but wasn't really into comics. The thing about those malls is they used up alot of space, honestly I think they should have been converted into green space (especially Landmark) which is desperately needed in these very built up urban/suburban areas.

Their entire regular army probably although they do have some reserves well as the regular conscript forces they get twice a year (but train’s for those is a total joke as I understand,,, they lucky to even get to the target range) I m wondering if a surprise offensive by Ukraine into Russian territory like around Belgorod could achieve anything … if the army is truly stretched to its limit then theUAF could seize a lot of territory before Russia has time to react, and if they can’t expel Ukraine that is a massive embarrassment for Putin and could lead to a coup or even uprising. Of course the downside is this is one of the trigger clauses that Russia can use to resort to nuclear weapons

According to Spotrac for 2024-25 we have $12m space left and 18/23 players signed. I think we can buy out Backstrom and add like $3-4m. Can probably do the same with Oshie assuming he's not coming back. There's a couple of big name Cs available as UFA (Stamkos, Nylander, Reinart, Guentzel, Marchessault, a 39 year old Pavelski) after the season end, but half of those guys probably are resigned by their teams, and we're going to be an extremely tough sell. We just don't have alot to offer besides money and the chance of being the guy that helps Ovi break the goal scoring record.
