  1. I was a huge DO NOT DRAFT a QB guy this year, because I felt we needed another year of TEAM building before our fanbase was given another "savior" QB prospect. Now that we have done what I wanted, and the team looks much more well rounded, I am back on board with the search for the next QB. I'll be scouring the NCAA scouting this season for our next QB1.
  2. Apparently we will be waiting to see how Bradley-King and Toney look in camp before considering bringing Kerrigan back. If he's still available, I still want at least a 1 year deal to give the new blood time to develop.
  3. That's definitely his projection- a big press man corner. To me he looks like a completely different player in press vs off coverage. He plays very conservative in off coverage seemingly content with making the tackle after the catch. Looking at his highlights, he doesn't seem to contest many passes from off coverage either. Then you see him at the Senior Bowl and wonder what Minnesota was doing with him. He is contesting every ball thrown at him and actually playing aggressive. I agree his physical traits lend well to press coverage, and since he didn't play much in college, he probably has a lot of room to grow and be coached up on techniques. The key will be our coaches using him to his strengths. He he would have been terrible with any of our previous D Coordinators 10 yards off the ball coverages, but in the aggressive man scheme we seem to be building, he can flourish. It only takes a bit of disruption at the LOS to throw a WR and QBs timing off before the QB has to move to the next read. That split second shows up in the sack totals by the end of the season. He will need time to grow though so we will need to be patient. The good thing about basically all of our picks is that they play special teams. He will get his feet wet there and we shouldn't need to rely on him at CB out the gate. Given a few years he could be a solid #2 or #3 Corner and that's fine. His strengths do fit in with the scheme we are building.
  4. That is a reasonable take. He showed out at the Senior Bowl and that was playing aggressive press man coverage. At Minnesota he was usually off the ball so like you said, maybe his college coach wasn't playing him to his strengths. He looks a lot more comfortable when he is able to get hands on the WR and disrupt the route. That plays well into our DL so while I admittedly didn't agree with the pick, I can see what the coaches are thinking. He does seem to have the mindset and heart to be successful. He just needs to be coached up.
  5. I am going to keep it real and admit this was the only pick that I disagreed with. I think our coaches see potential based on his size and agility workout numbers, but he will need a LOT of coaching on actually playing the game of football. His tape is... interesting. Lots of clips of him giving up catches, though with minimal yards after the catch. Lots of clips of him playing off on 3rd down and giving up the 1st down catch right in front of him(we know all about this technique). He even has a clip of him coming up to stop a jet sweep before getting completely ran over... in his highlights. The ball carrier trips over his body afterwards so I guess it's okay, but he really looks awkward out there. I'll trust the coaches on this one, and I'll be pleasantly surprised if they groom him into a serviceable DB. I'd personally feel more comfortable with Roberts or Moreland as our next CBs to touch the field though. If he does work out, that is a huge credit to our coaching staff.
  6. I watched Dyami a while ago in the draft process. When I was looking him up, he was in a few people's top 5 for this WR class. I honestly forgot all about him draft night, but getting him in the 3rd was great value. He is a well rounded, physical, fast WR. He will fit in perfectly.
  7. Rivera gave some great insight in the press conference. One of my favorites is when he spoke about, in the process of scouting, going from pro day to pro day. He says that they pay attention to who's showing up where, and the Team paid attention when all the LB guys (coaches and scouts) showed up to see Jamin. Also I noticed how he continuously speaks of Jamin's character and background. I can tell that he feels he has his next LB apprentice. Mayhew spoke about a few things as well. My favorite point was him saying that Jamin loves and enjoys the grind of football. You have to love it and with his potential, that mindset opens up the possibilities.
  8. You can tell how excited Rivera is to coach him up.
  9. We went with the more conservative Jackson.. I was hoping for Adoree since he is more of a ball hawk and playmaker, but William is more conservative and will be in position more often- leading to more sacks. Either way we have upgraded the CB position so I'm not disappointed.
  10. Adoree Jackson playing behind our dline makes the pro bowl. He has the perfect play style at CB with a dominant pass rush. He would also be an upgrade on punt returns. He's my top defensive target at this point.
  11. I'm personally loving the current approach of conservatism. This offseason will workout in our favor long term. Every FA we don't sign, I think of Terry, Montez, etc. in house players who we will have no problem keeping. Let NE be offseason Champs this year.
  12. Imagine resigning Trent then drafting a RT with the 3rd round pick we got for him. One, we would have handled the situation brilliantly, trading a year of service for that pick. Two, Heinicke, Allen, or anyone else would have a legitimate opportunity to win games every week with this roster. LT is a hole on our roster and Trent happened to be the number one rated LT by PFF last season. How convenient. We all (should) know he solidifies that spot as long as he wants to play football so I'd sign him. It almost makes too much sense to be a (Football Team) sequence of moves.
  13. I would sign Trent Williams to a 2 year deal since he's willing to come back. He will go into the HOF as a (Football Player) so I'm going to let go of that grudge I know some may still hold. There's an entire new front office and staff here so his beef with the team is gone. He will help any QB and the passing game, and you can ask Cole Holcomb how effective he is in the run game. His contract would be up in time to pay our DL, and he solidifies the LT spot for 2 years- maximizing our window with everyone still on rookie deals. In the biggest moments last year our OL consistently gave up huge pressure so, feelings aside, this is a great move for us. I get the beef, but again, he's very likely going to give that HOF speech some day and (Football Team) fans will be there in his jersey. He should have retired a (Football Player) anyway and he's already changed his tune about playing for us publicly. A nice finesse with the SF pick still there too. I am very careful about contracts this offseason that take up large cap space 3 to 5 years down the road. They will either get cut or one of our young DL will walk so I'm looking to be conservative on long term deals.
  14. Terry needs more talent around him. Any route he runs downfield he gets all of the attention. Even on quick screens the defense is keying on him because there is no other deep threat. He is the only receiver we have capable of winning his 1 on 1 match up without getting schemed open. Thomas will start to get more attention so maybe Turner will use that to McClaurin's advantage.
  15. We start every game flat and predictable. When we do try to get fancy, it is often sloppy. Scott has potential, as shown in our dominant second half, but he has to get better at scripting the opening of games. Maybe base it on attacking the defensive weaknesses instead of the usual run play, swing pass to the RB, 5 yard crossing route.
  16. We have had Collins, Apke, Everett and Curl as our safeties, yet we are top 3 against the pass in the NFL. Do people really think our secondary is the reason for that statistic? That is a direct result of our DL and the play of Young! Each week teams are forced into a quick passing game where they can't take advantage of our secondary. Against the Steelers, even our best corner Fuller had his worst game, and still, Ben could not attack him down field like he would normally do. Young getting so much attention has helped every player on our DL look better, and that in turn has helped our entire defense be one of the best in the LEAGUE. I know, I know. "But sacks..."
  17. No sacks but also the Steelers normally take way more shots down field than we saw today. Our DL kept them in their basic quick passing game for the majority of the game. Our secondary did not play great today but Ben was not able to exploit that like he has done throughout the season. If he held the ball more than 2 seconds he was going to get lit up.
  18. I really wish I could help other fans identify how many plays Young makes throughout the game. The stuff he does is not normal for a DE, much less a rookie DE. I know most will only understand the sack total though. Dude is a beast.
  19. The fact that our players feel the need to speak up in defense of Young once again speaks to the culture here. The fanbase is not known to be loyal. The players hear the constant complaining. While much has been warranted over the years, our fans take it too far. For many, the complaining has just become habitual, and it makes this a less than desirable environment to develop players in. I keep this in mind when I see fans also proposing going after any QB who may need time to grow. This is not the place. Young is already being schemed like one of the top pass rushers in the league, and our fans are still on radio shows and message boards low key calling him a bust. We have to do better.
  20. https://247sports.com/college/maryland/Article/Washington-Football-Team-defensive-line-Jonathan-Allen-Chase-Young-Dallas-Cowboys-game-Alabama-Ohio-State-155454312/ "Chase Young is everything that you expect out of a No. 2 overall pick, man," Allen said Tuesday via The Sports Junkies on 106.7 FM The Fan in Washington, D.C. "He comes in, he works, he's humble, he grinds. He's passionate, he's fiery and he wants it. I mean, for me personally, I don't think there's anything else I could ever ask from him." "The people who say that, 'Oh, his numbers aren't high,' they're probably the same people who watch the game through a calculator," Allen said. "And that's just the facts. I know so many things that a player does that affects the game that don't show up in the stat book.
  21. I'm still looking to upgrade the OL with a Tackle + Guard/Center in the draft. Smith helps the OL by being a predominantly check down guy who gets the ball out quick, but I'd like to see our offense continue to evolve. We will need 1 or 2 upgrades for that to be possible.
