  1. Yea, not much of a debate. I think Bernie almost answered a question. though. Highlight of the debate for me was the lady that with the hair salon business who claimed she can't afford to expand her business and be Obamacare complaint with her small profit margins. ... ... Wtf lady... why would you expand your business if you're not making any money????
  2. FYI - Bernie and Ted Cruz are about to have a town hall debate on health care in about 10 minutes on CNN
  3. Maaaaan.... that's just quite unfortunate. Lebron has 5 fouls, have to attack him in OT.
  4. Yea Ferguson isnt the best example, its just difficult to get official data outside of those comprehensive DOJ reports.
  5. I'm still confused as to why you think they're not being arrested and what you're basing that off? Broken window policing got New York up to 1.2million bench warrants for minor crimes. I'm guessing they don't have the man-power, or resources to find and arrest 1.2million people.
  6. Your question is why aren't people being arrested in poor communities? I'm lost.
  7. I'm not advocating anything, just giving the perspective of the police and the law, and why things have gotten to this point. You're wrong about the statistics, the majority of the residents in some of those areas might be poor and just trying to get by, but that doesn't mean they are law-abiding. Like I stated, statistically, that person is more likely then not to have a warrant for their arrest, which is a fact in certain communities like Ferguson Missouri. (75% of residents have an active arrest warrant, 1.5 arrest warrants per person) Now, you and I might be able to differentiate between a dangerous criminal, and someone who didn't pay their speeding ticket, but the law doesn't. If you don't pay your ticket, you eventually end up with a warrant for you arrest, which makes you an active criminal. And cops are allowed to violate your rights at that point for the greater good, by law: http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2016/06/20/supreme-court-arrest-warrant-search-seizure-utah-drugs/86134884/ Technically does that mean cops can just assume you're a criminal based off of nothing and do whatever they want? Technically, no, of course not. But that doesn't mean it isn't ridiculously easy for a cop to justify their actions, and extremely difficult to prove actual misconduct or a cop actually violated your constitutional rights. And if you actually are a criminal, well, you're pretty SOL even if you were mistreated. In your example, when the 4-5 cops jump out of the car, all they have to do is say, STOP, and that's pretty much it. Of course if 4-5 armed people run up on anyone there's not going to be a good reaction, calm reaction. But the law says, if you don't STOP, or FREEZE, then you're ****ed.
  8. Though probably true that's not the biggest contributor to police brutality. The main problem is that crime infested areas are full of criminals and police officers need arrests. So they go to an area where literally everyone is a criminal and can do pretty much whatever they want, like those jump out tactics described, because if you're dealing with a wanted felon, you can legally violate many constitutional rights. This is why its important that officers represent the communities they serve, because otherwise you just have cops invading ****ty areas to get more arrests. Ferguson Missouri for example averaged 1.5 arrest warrants per person statistically. So @Gamebreaker there is no such thing as an innocent person minding his own business vs a criminal in these communities. Everyone statistically is likely to be a criminal. Would be nice if the police differentiated between violent gang-banger and poor person who didn't pay their tickets but the system certainly doesn't.
  9. Nah, thats not really fair. The Republicans already passed an alternative health care plan a year ago. Obviously Obama vetoed it. It was Tom Price's plan and i assume the new plan will just be a slight variation of it. Refundable tax credits based on age for private insurance. 18 months concurrent coverage = pre-existing conditions. High risk pools for the sick that fall through the cracks. Cross-state insurance Whole bunch of tort reforms protecting Drs. Etc.
  10. Yea... didn't realize who I was quoting. * "I said I didn't shoot you mother****er, so you should feel lucky for that." Cops can be such dicks.
  11. The 911 caller was crying on the scene because she felt she profiled him. Pretty hard to ignore the racial aspect.
  12. These were quick budget resolution amendments (160 in total), not individual laws or bills, so there is no specific language here: At the end of title III, add the following: SEC. 3___. DEFICIT-NEUTRAL RESERVE FUND RELATING TO LOWERING PRESCRIPTION DRUG PRICES FOR AMERICANS BY IMPORTING DRUGS FROM CANADA AND OTHER COUNTRIES. The Chairman of the Committee on the Budget of the Senate may revise the allocations of a committee or committees, aggregates, and other appropriate levels in this resolution for one or more bills, joint resolutions, amendments, amendments between the Houses, motions, or conference reports relating to lowering prescription drug prices, including through the importation of safe and affordable prescription drugs by American pharmacists, wholesalers, and individuals with a valid prescription from a provider licensed to practice in the United States, by the amounts provided in such legislation for those purposes, provided that such legislation would not increase the deficit over either the period of the total of fiscal years 2017 through 2021 or the period of the total of fiscal years 2017 through 2026. There's nothing in the language of this amendment that implies there won't be any sufficient safety standards put in place, or safety is not a concern, or safety/quality control will be ignored in the future committee. Voting NAY on this amendment does not match Booker's statement at all, that he unequivocally supports drug imports to lower costs but the plan has to have sufficient safety standards. This vote was not for a specific plan, just a step in allowing a future plan to be brought to the table. I assume the actual language would be similar to earlier bills: H.R. 3715 (113th): Personal Drug Importation Fairness Act of 2013 2. Reducing prescription drug costs by allowing certain drugs to be imported or reimported (a) In general Notwithstanding any provision of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act ( 21 U.S.C. 301 et seq.), a drug may be imported into the United States, and may be reimported into the United States by a person other than the drug’s manufacturer, if the drug— (1) has the same active ingredients, route of administration, and strength as a prescription drug approved under chapter V of such Act ( 21 U.S.C. 351 et seq.); (2) may be lawfully marketed in, and is imported or reimported from, a qualified country; (3) is dispensed by a licensed pharmacist; (4) is shipped directly to, or is imported by, the ultimate consumer from the qualified country; (5) is shipped or imported in quantities that do not exceed a 90-day supply; and (6) is accompanied by a copy of a valid prescription.
  13. We've heard that argument for a long time now Peter. Its always about safety, it is the political equivalent of screaming about the children. I'm fairly confident we can add some protections or find a solution to quality standards considering the majority of our drugs are manufactured in India and China already. Or other ideas, like yours: I believe they already tried that, there was a bill, and a prescription drug cost task force that had this type of language taking the average price of drugs from developed countries. (i'll try and find it and why it didn't pass) The problem, is when the pharmaceutical lobby is so strong that, "Just pass a law" becomes impossible. Much like gun control, they do everything in their power to block anything and everything that even remotely hints to them losing revenue.
  14. Riiiiiiiiiiiiight Cory. All about safety. This guy is the dem hopeful for 2020? Even Ted Cruz voted yes on this one. Our politicians are a joke and its laughable to think any of them care about lowering health care costs in this country. Bernie's Response: “If we can import vegetables and fish and poultry and beef from all corners of the Earth, please don’t tell me that we cannot bring in, from Canada and other major countries, name brand prescription drugs of some of the largest corporations in the world,” he said. “That’s a laughable statement.”
  15. Kessler: 21 sacks 195 attempts (9.2 rate) McCown: 18 sacks 165 attempts (9.2 rate) Robert sack rate this season was actually worse than 2014. Guy's a tackling dummy.
  16. Robert was sacked 22 times in 147 pass attempts this season. That's a sack every 6.6 attempts. Dude needs to retire. To compare Cousins was sacked 23 times in 606 attempts.
  17. lol @mistertim The sad part is tough guy up there slammed that girl in front of all the other kids. Damn though, that was a ****ing ultimate warrior suplex. Gotta love the news these days though. Just the same reality show over and over, same script, same characters, same story: Good guy - little black girl, just trying to defend her sister Bad Guy - evil mexican security guard. let's zoom in on his mug shot and do the shifty eye's thing * Action Scene * - epic body slam Commissioner Gordon - gotta say some official stuff Random Black Lady #1 - obvious excessive force Random White Lady #1 - she probably deserved it
  18. Think you guys are severely overestimating the training cops get on just basic things. I know i always did but cops really dont get training past the academy on much of anything. Like shooting, i always assumed it was like a show or movie with cops in the range all the time shooting the cutouts, but that is indeed just fantasy. in reality, many cops can't shoot for ****, and its laughable to ask why they shoot to kill when the real answer is that many cops cant shoot well enough to hit someone in the leg or arm. They'd miss. Ex-military cops seem to have this sentimemt. What shocked me and i even asked a cpl cops i know, is that most patrol cops dont even get trained on how to drive. again i just assumed that because they're cops; high-speed chases, pulling ppl over, and all that.. but nope. It actually makes sense considering training costs time+money and departments work on a budget. Thats why i hate the body cams even though they seem like a necessity. They must cost a **** ton.
  19. Good job democrats, keep electing unpopular leaders. What's the worst that could happen....
  20. LAT: Man shot to death by L.A. County deputy was not a carjacking suspect, officials say Apparently this guy was mentally disabled and was passed out on someone's lawn. Poor guy, talk about the wrong place at the wrong time. Of course the initial story sounds completely different: City News: LA man identified as suspect killed in Compton deputy-involved shooting
