  1. The thing I worry about Holcomb playing the MIKE is his durability. He’s already had some concussions and he isn’t the biggest linebacker amd sometimes gets swallowed up by bigger guards. Yes he has the speed and football smarts for the position. However if he’s out a game or two here and there, we’re then stuck with David Mayo which is not ideal. I sure hope one of the undrafted rookies steps up.
  2. In other news, looks like Jordan Kunaszyk is gone. He was just way too slow even for an inside backer. Hopefully the infusion of younger players and their potential leads to a hidden gem or two. Also saw John Simon got released. Not saying we should sign him but he’s a vet and shows more cuts will be coming that could be a potential pickup before camp. https://riggosrag.com/2022/05/16/commanders-release-jordan-kunaszyk-sign-two-undrafted-free-agents/
  3. Sure most left tackles are tall but 6’10 is too tall. Wentz would need a step ladder to be able to see to his left. How does one attempt to throw over him? But seriously how does he bend down to get under the pads of a d lineman who’s 6’4 or shorter. Isnt he still playing in the USFL season? I don’t really understand how guys in that league are gonna catch onto an NFL team? They’re playing what 8 games and then go right into a 17 game season with training camp?
  4. I sure hope Dan’s financial issues don’t cause any hang up on resigning Terry! At the same time I wish the league would force Dan to sell the team.
  5. I don’t think Schweitzer is the starter or will be the starter. Turner was a 5 time pro bowler and is only 28. If Schweitzer was the automatic starter, then there is no need to bring in Turner at $3million besides drafting a young guard like they did with Paul. I’m telling you I could see him getting cut in camp especially if Paul shows promise. Charles will be the backup at left guard with Larsen or Ismael the backup at center.
  6. Not sure if anyone mentioned this but apparently we put in a claim for Wes Martin who just got cut by the Giants. We didn’t get him because the Jags did too and got him. I find this interesting. Not that he was gonna start but I think Schweitzer would have been cut. We have Turner probably starting and Paul as a backup, why would we need Martin. I think Schweitzer is a candidate to be cut and he has a decent size contract for a backup (I think $4 mil a year). https://www.profootballrumors.com/2022/05/commanders-chargers-put-in-claims-for-g-wes-martin
  7. Did you really want Landry to come here? Who cares? … he’s a shell of himself and not worth whatever the one year deal the Saints gave him. I can understand your frustration on the cap issue. However I read somewhere that the Saints did a whole lot of maneuvering to get from underwater to a over $13 million in cap space. The only real free agent they signed was Marcus Maye but otherwise their signings have been mainly in-house. Raiders really hyped Edwards the last couple years but he is only average to slightly above average at best to me. He does have size so interesting to see him and London pair up with Pitts, almost like a basketball team.
  8. I prefer to pass on Johnson. Sure he has the ideal size for a MLB but he is way too slow and could be slower since he turned 30. His 40 time is slower than Bostic. We need to continue adding speed on defense. I prefer a Nick Kiatwoski although he may sign w Falcons. Kwon Alexander is a bit undersized but he’s another option. The ILB choices are slowly dwindling and I don’t see us bringing in anyone until some cuts by other teams and even then they will be merely a backup.
  9. Like I said I hope he can play backer because we need the depth. I just seen too many examples of guys who moved from a 4-3 to 3-4 and couldn’t make the transition. Andre Carter, Kerrigan were athletic guys but looked lost out in coverage even after an entire offseason practicing the position.
  10. I hope you’re right as he has the body type and speed to play linebacker. He didn’t play there much last year granted it was his rookie year. He mainly played end at Penn State don’t recall him ever going out in coverage but hopefully he can and it would really help our linebacker position. Of his top 35 plays only once did he drop back in coverage, never lined up at linebacker. Not saying it can’t be done but a difficult transition to move from end to outside backer. https://youtu.be/Xjwk78oIv88
  11. Agreed. Toney is a hands in the dirt DE. No way he can play linebacker. And if Mayo gets any significant playing time, that would suck. We really do need to sign a linebacker but don’t think it will happen till the beginning of camp when teams start to make some cuts.
  12. Rather than a corner, I do think we need to sign another inside linebacker for depth and special teams. Free agents Schobert and Kwiatkoski are too slow in my opinion. Both are 4.7 guys. I prefer a guy like Kwon Alexander or Anthony Barr who are faster backers. Not sure they would be better than Holcomb in the middle but would be insurance in case he gets hurt. He would be better than counting on Mayo, Kunaszyk, or one of the rookie free agents.
  13. I think the plan is to have McCain play a lot at slot (he played it fairly well in Miami) with Percy playing free and Kam at strong. In certain situations I could see Kam at buffalo nickel with McCain back at safety. Why does everyone clamor for the next big name free agent to be signed? How has that worked out for us in the past? Pass on Bradberry.
  14. Sorry guys no way we are trading and signing Bradberry. I know he would be our best corner but we can live with Fuller and WJ with whoever plays the slot or buffalo nickel as long as our defensive line improves their pass rush. Our secondary looked a lot better when we had backups like JSW and Toohill/Toney providing decent pressure when they were in for Sweat and Chase. We had literally guys off the street playing corner and playing well. We can’t afford Bradberry when we still need to sign Terry and guys like Kam and Sweat in a couple years.
  15. I wrote after we drafted Mathis, I really liked the pick! I know everyone says he’s more of a run stuffer than pass rusher but keep in mind he had 9 sacks last year while Payne had 1.5 his last year at Bama. I don’t need him to get sacks but be just a disruptive force in the middle where teams need 2 blockers to move him. I prefer him to become a Vince Wolfork type who never had more than 3 sacks in a season but was a force. He gained weight and became 350 lbs and just clogged the middle. I know there was some talk about keeping his weight down but I think Mathis has the body type to be able to handle the extra weight while still keeping his agility and speed. We should have enough pass rushers and if Mathis can become Wilfork like, it will strengthen our linebackers. I really think he could become our best pick in this draft someone we can have 8-10 years on that line!
  16. Like most people on here Howell was a great pick in the fifth but ideally he never sees suits up on game day because Wentz plays solid. Wentz does get nicked up occasionally and may miss a game or two. Hopefully Heinicke got stronger this offseason and can fill in on a spot start. If we can’t afford Wentz next year or he plays poorly, then with a year under his belt Howell can compete for the starting job. I do worry about a qb controversy this year when I want stability at the position.
  17. Jason is awful and that tweet is nothing more than speculation. Wide receivers this year have got some huge contracts so it’s going to be tough negotiations to sign Terry. Awesome … tell me more Jason!? Also I like the Erickson signing. Guy’s a vet so I rather trust a vet over any undrafted rookie free agent and I don’t want to see Dotson playing on special teams to keep him fresh.
  18. Sorry Newsome was a great GM and drafted a lot of talent especially on the defensive side but Decosta is still unproven. How was the Ravens defense last year? Theres a reason they got rid of Martindale. Without Lamar and his running ability, the team would have been awful since they have no real talent on offense besides a solid line and a stud tight end. Now they did have a lot of injuries but overall I don’t see how you can say their front office is better than ours.
  19. Thats why Prisco and company are analysts and not football guys. He’s looking at the player rather than how that player fits into the system of the team. I think it’s fair to say that most on here like AG but also know he’s still learning to be a pure runner. Having a one/two punch is necessary considering JD is best suited as just the third down back.
  20. Here are the highest paid ILB. Don’t think any of the top guys will be cut and if they are they are too old. https://overthecap.com/position/linebacker/ Its rather slim pickings. I wouldn’t count on some big name being signed. After all we still need to sign Terry.
  21. Kam was a 7th round pick and played in 16 games with 11 starts as a rookie. A lot will depend on how he looks in rookie minicamp and preseason. Listening to him he seems very confident so depends on how well he picks up things.
  22. Just looked into Percy Butler a bit more and he may get some playing time and be the reason we don’t need to sign someone to play buffalo nickel. Butler supposedly is the best pure safety in the draft and ran a 4.3. You put him back there with McCain and this would allow Kam to play buffalo. Kams one of my favorite players and he is extremely good in coverage against bigger tight ends and quick enough to cover slots receivers. He showed last year he can stick with running backs out of the backfield. I think they will see how he does in rookie minicamp and then determine if they need to go out and get someone.
  23. Bradberry would be nice but he’s gonna cost too much. Don’t see him signing a one year prove it deal. Fuller and Jackson are fine if we can get more production from our line. I prefer to see a linebacker from teams that release a vet. A guy that might make sense is Devin Bush who may be released.
