  1. I guess we are going with a group that is similar in to the Seahawks when they had Baldwin, Richardson, and Lockett. My concern is that our starters are injury prone. I like Steven Sims and think he can be a better player than Quinn. I called it when he signed. Also we have no experience behind the starters. Will R Davis, Kidsey, Harmon, be able to step up? I’m a little pessimistic on it but hopeful.
  2. I was expecting much from Holcomb as a fifth round pick but if he can be half the player of a Luke Keuchly or that guy Vander Esch in Dallas we might just have something. I hear a lot of his speed and coverage abilities but I wanna see how he tackles. We need MLB who is a sure tackler. I believe he had a lot of tackles in college but this is a whole new level. We shall see.
  3. Youre right. Not too much about Sprinkle. However the guy who is intriguing to me is the rookie TE Parham. Guy’s 6’8 and seems to be able to move. With Reed now seeming to be healthy and looking good so far, I would rather see a different guy as the 3rd TE. Sprinkles main attribute is blocking and he hasn’t really shown a lot in that area.
  4. Just watched a bunch of twitter videos of today’s practice. My take is that Doctson breaks out this year. He looks into it and hopefully he’s motivated by the 5th year option. On one play where Josh picked off a pass that was overthrown to Doctson, Josh turned around as to make a tackle of Norman. I like that kind of hustle. Robert Davis has all the tangibles but not the hands and I don’t see him making the squad. I think Cam and Harmon are battling each other for the 53 with the other as PS. I said it in another thread but I could see Steven Sims making the team and getting a lot of playing time in the slot. He’s got a lot of twitch and he’s ideal for the slot. I’m just not convinced on Quinn. Lastly Jordan looks great so far. We need him to be the man!
  5. None that I saw as Montez was lined up either on the left or right side of the line.
  6. You know what’s great to see from Montez in this highlight tape against Alabama? His non-stop hustle. There’s so many college players who go all out for a few plays and then take off for a bunch. Montez is consistently hustling even after the ball is thrown or the play is away from him. The more I watch him the more I see Andre Carter in him. Same kind of build and skill set except Montez is a bit better. I always loved his hustle and tenacity and if it wasn’t for a switch to a 3-4 he would have played longer here.
  7. C'mon it's way too early to look at Flowers being cut. We brought him in to see if he can play guard and we will see. The one thing with him over the couple draft picks is that he has experience. If he struggles, then he's gone and we have a few guys competing for the left guard position and Christian as a swing tackle. It does hurt that we lost Nyske in the offseason as I will say having a good backup is important since you are right, Trent will miss a few games.
  8. I watched some of Holcombs play last year and don’t understand how people are saying he played fast? If he was so quick he would have gotten a few more sacks than the one he got all year. He was fairly unimpressive to me. He’s undersized and a rookie so I don’t anticipate much from him besides being a special teamer if he even makes the team. I think Jordan Brailford has a better shot of getting playing time. Shaun Dion and Josh Harvey need to step it up. I heard they put on some weight and hopefully a year under the belt means they make an impact this year.
  9. I don’t care if he is Russ Grimms son but why is this guy even a coach especially coaching lbs? He looks like he’s five foot five and I highly doubt he ever played lb in high school or college. #confused
  10. I realize Doctson has not lived up to his first round status but remember it takes some wideouts a few years before it clicks. The norm used to be the third year and I understand this is his fourth year but he really didn’t play his rookie year. I for one remain optimistic he puts it all together and becomes our go to guy. McLaurin I think will be our Gary Clark type. Can play outside but has the ability to catch the underneath stuff. With him underneath and Doctson on the outside we need a healthy Richardson who can take it over the top. I’m rooting for Cam, Quinn, Davis, and Harmon but let’s face it, there’s a reason they were high draft picks or UDFA. I’ll be happy if they can just contribute as it is unlikely they become the next Antonio Brown.
  11. Usually a wide 9 is used in a 4-3 defense, not a 3-4 that we run. The idea is to have the defensive ends keeping the play in the middle. However Manusky did use a lot of 4 def lineman schemes with Kerrigan being the 4th guy. I agree it would be nice to see some different stuff out there and with Sweats athleticism and better athletes like Rueben and Collins, we should do more creative things. Always good to mix it up but Manusky is old school so I highly doubt seeing him being Bellichek like. Let the defense dictate things rather than the offense doing it.
  12. I like Josh and think he has the ability to play outside as a lb in our 3-4. He definitely showed some pass rushing abilities last year. I think if he can show something then he and Sweat can rotate along with Ryan. I still like Mason and Ryan Anderson to be our mlbs and have Shaun and Rueben as our backups with one of them alternating outside. If you ask me that’s a pretty formidable linebacker crew!
  13. I like Shaun but don’t care how smart he is. He’s too small to play mlb in a 3-4. He needs to be a thumper so unless he bulked up and got stronger in the off season I rather see Anderson in there. Mason can handle the play calling.
  14. Manusky has not been great as the d coordinator but I believe he will improve. Much easier when you have talent and he has much more than when he first came here. Also keep in mind that we hired Rob Ryan as a lb coach. While I think he was overrated as a def coordinator he still brings experience to the table. I do take back slightly on our depth on the d line. Forgot we cut McGhee. So Caleb Brantley better be good. Oh any chance Marcus Smith, former first rounder with Eagles, actually can play? But Brantley and Tim Settle must be viable rotational guys with Allen, Payne, and Ionnadis. Someone mentioned moving Anderson inside and I like that idea. Him and Mason would allow us to be better run stoppers than with Shaun Dion who I like but I see him more as a backup. Add Landon in the box and the big guys up front and our run def should be much better.
  15. Out front 7 is much improved and we got some real good depth. I live in Eagles country and even one of my buddies who is an Eagles fan did not like us getting Sweat. He even commented that our front seven is pretty darn good and he wasn’t even factoring in Rueben. There is no comparison between him and Preston. I liked Preston but he was too inconsistent and awful when he had to drop off in coverage. You can’t teach speed and length and that’s what Sweat has. Once the coaches work with him I see someone who could be better than Kerrigan. Plus I love his enthusiasm for being on the team. Every social media has him saying HTTR which I love hearing. By comparison Haskins seems pretty low key but maybe because he’s still pissed that Jones got drafted before him. He did seem to come around over the weekend.
  16. Sweat could be even better than Preston. Also don’t forget Rueben Foster. Our front 7 is very solid!
