  1. I don't understand why there needs to be this much discussion on this topic (though, I kind of do. It's a discussion forum and what the hell else are we going to have back and forth convos about?) Heinicke is a player who is a gritty, hardnosed player who does everything that a quarterback is supposed to do in literally every aspect except physically, which is a spot where he is lacking and at times making bad decisions (but that is also what gives him some juice because those 50/50 balls are plays our guys thrive on) which is why he can't be our long term definitive starting QB. He is a backup type who can start if needed. Right now... it's needed. With a better QB on the roster? It won't be.
  2. Bingo. As long as they are in contention they are going to protect the rookie QB with two veterans and not hinge their success and put all that pressure on him and, quite frankly, the team wouldn't be thrilled being in the playoff hunt (like right now when Wentz is getting healthy) and elevating the rookie over the veteran. It doesn't make sense even if Howell is playing really well. He hasn't shown a thing on the field yet. If they are eliminated we will likely see Howell.
  3. I thought we were going golfing! Skins games for the cash!
  4. No. That's not how sports/business works. Wentz is being paid $28M. He has 10 TD and 6 INT on THIS season. In 5 games. Howell is a rookie who they are trying to develop that they don't want to throw to the fire right away. C'mon, man.
  5. DJ's whole argument is silly. Yes, once Wentz is healthy Howell is the obvious choice to be inactive. He is a rookie with zero NFL snaps that they are trying not to put into the game "too early" in his career. Why, then, would you make him active over Wentz who has been a pro for about a decade? It doesn't make sense yet. Even if he is good. They are taking their time with him. It's logical. It's not a knock on Howell. It's just common sense. I don't know why people read so far into things that there is nothing to read in to.
  6. Looks like I was right about Zach Wilson. Comes across as an entitled player who doesn’t hold himself accountable. I always thought there was something missing from his game. Until he holds himself accountable he always will be missing something.
  7. To me it's clear that this is the pecking order: QB > LT > CB > Edge Where we pick determines a lot of this. If we get a top 5 pick (would need to be via trade at this point) than QB is the priority. If we pick in the late teens/early twenties then BPA is on the table... Is Sweat here? if so, Edge is less of a priority weight. Is LT3 better than CB 4? Or whatever CB/LT we are on. Going to be interesting to see how it plays out. Looks like we're not going to be in position for Paris Johnson, so we may be looking at OG2 in the mid twenties at this point, who the heck knows where we finish, I'm done trying to figure this team out. But is OG2 (or OG1) > OT3? OG1/2 > CB 3? We'll see how it all plays out for sure. I'm going to start watching prospects soon so I'll have a better idea of the path I'd travel.
  8. I’m not sure how you don’t notice Allen and Payne wrecking every game. But they’ve done that all year. Holcomb is not as good as people want him to be. Hard nosed guy, quality player all things considered but he’s a fringe starter/backup type for mostly every other NFL team. Maybe he took some down time to study some tape, we’ll see. But the D has been better minus WJ3 and Holcomb.
  9. So it’s not an inherent thing. It’s a mentality or a mindset. Teams generally take on the personality of their signal caller. They aren’t looking at Wentz and saying, “nope. Not going to catch the ball for him”. It’s just something that happens on a football field that can’t be explained with numbers or formulas of PFF grades. Wentz is a more timid, hard on himself, player. Because of that, players see him in a certain light. Easy to rattle. Not a gamer. Not “dirty”. Not “nasty”. Heinicke is a gritty guy who is humble and knows exactly who and what he is. He doesn’t get rattled. The persona of the offense has shifted this year from a finesse style with Wentz (Jags game) to a “dirty, nasty” mentality with Heinicke. It’s a mindset. Alex Smith won, too. He wasn’t great statistically, but he won. I’m not going to sit here and sell Smith as a guy that should have kept being the QB after he came back just because they found some success. But his mentality carried over to the mentality of the team. And they won more than they lost because of it. Same with Heinicke. It’s tough to really describe to people but it’s a real thing at all levels of football (where the signal caller isn’t just standing there to hand off, anyways). I’m still not on the Heinicke is the guy bandwagon. This team needs better QB play asap. But until the team has a guy in hand that they think the team will rally around (*cough*samhowell*cough*) there is something to the moxie factor as annoying as it is at times. Heinicke’s a gamer. Cannot take that from him.
  10. The job is Heinicke’s until we’re out/Wentz can’t play in 70% of the snaps, then it’s probably going to Wentz if we are eliminated. From there Howell may get the last game otherwise he’s not seeing the field this year.
  11. It’s Bryce Young or bust for me right now.
  12. Our offense wasn’t very good today. They won convincingly anyways so it can be overlooked but that needs to be better if they want to be real contenders.
  13. He didn’t get the first down to seal it. He literally pulled a Heinicke
  14. Jets/Patriots 3-3. Wilson has 79 yards. I’d rather have Heinicke. Also, I didn’t like Wilson in the draft thread, either. Something always felt off.
  15. Because if he comes in and leads them to a TD there’s now three QBs people will be clamoring for and that’s a giant headache.
  16. Four downs to get 10 yards means 2.5 yards per play. Odds are usually in your favor to convert those if you have the balls to try routinely.
  17. And Howell coming in and leading them to a TD drive just puts the team in a bad position. It’s best TH stays in for the team, despite me wanting to see Howell.
  18. I’d be having more fun if I thought our offense was better than meh. But as a DC myself watching the D makes me happy as hell
  19. I’m sold on Forrest at FS and Curl at SS, now. That’s big for the roster. Still have some things to figure out contract wise but that’s a good thing.
