  1. Agreed. It would be kind of stupid. And we’d be the laughing stock of the league except this time with a new owner! I can see them redoing the logo and that kind of thing, though. The taco holder would be gone. Jerseys reworked. Stuff like that. But to many people’s dismay I think the Commanders are here to stay.
  2. He’s not catching enough touchdowns to be all-pro. I think Diggs, Hill, Jefferson, Adams and Waddle are just about locks if they don’t consider Kupp due to the injury. Lamb has more media coverage so he’s probably closer to the conversation. Terry will need to get in the end zone 8-10 more times and be at about 1300 yards or more to sneak in there. Not sure he can do that with Heinicke but hey, a great philosopher by the name of Kevin Garnett once said, “ANNNYYYYTTHHHIIIIINNNNGGGGG ISSS POSSSSSSSIIIIIBBBBBBLLLLLEEEEEEE!”
  3. I’ve been saying forever that’s not the answer in those threads. Many, many times.
  4. Griffin is projecting his feelings for his career into the Heinicke/Wilson thing. That’s all that is.
  5. I don’t know, does it? I mean I think Jimmy G is a better QB than Heinicke but isn’t he just kind of more of the same? I think I’d rather take the money on Jimmy and put together a great line and great running attack and see what Howell and Heinicke can do than tie up money on Jimmy. By Jimmy’s admission he’s just now getting more comfortable with the Shanahan offense (not that he didn’t know it, but he’s finally to a point where it’s natural). That’s tough to throw in a guy that we are expecting to come here and play the same as he is for SF. I agree, though. NYJ with Salah makes a LOT of sense for Jimmy.
  6. About time. His entitled play is the anti Heinicke. We (I) give Heinicke **** for his physical tools but I have also said many times that he does everything else you want your QB to do. At almost elite levels. Can you imagine if we had Zach Wilson’s mentality and Heinicke’s mentality on the same team? Night and day. Hopefully the young man learns from this and bounces back. He has talent, just has to understand the maturity aspect. “Do you think the offense let the defense down only scoring 3 points?” ”No.” It translates to Wilson saying this,”First off, sir, special teams scored those three points. We scored zero on the game. I didn’t see the defense out there scoring, did you? Oh and that special teams unit that scored three? They were -3 in point differential on the day.”
  7. I don’t think we can surmise anything from anything. Heinicke is the wild card of all wild cards. Going to be interesting how it goes but it’s his show now so I’m buckling in and going to enjoy the ride either way. Meaningful football around Turkey Day and it’s not just us hoping to go on an unprecedented streak… it’s a start.
  8. Yeah, his style isn’t sustainable. But there’s no telling when the crash happens. For now the only thing we can do is ride the wave and see what happens. I don’t think there is a good Avenue to a different QB next year so it’ll be the Howell and Heinicke show unless something lands in our laps.
  9. why in the blue **** would we WANT Watson so we can cheer for Heinicke? And how does that relate to my posted conversation about guys we’d take Heinicke over? You’re wrong. You correct everyone’s grammar and messages on this forum, you typed my words incorrectly, you were proven wrong. Take the L and move on. Holy ****. Agree. Who knew correcting him with his “quote” that he typed incorrectly from my post would turn into remedial English class?
  10. I don't. But, as harsh as I've been on Sweat I think he is much better against the run than he used to be and is a good pass rusher and an overall good defensive end. I don't think he's a great finisher, but with Young active maybe he starts getting home more often and I change my overall thought on that aspect of his game. My biggest "thing" with Sweat is: "Is he worth the contract he is going to demand?" As of now, I'm not sure. With Young, Sweat, Allen and Payne (he needs to be re-signed) we have a ton of resources tied up in the starting DL and that group hasn't played together in that many games considering this is year 3 of that grouping. I haven't looked into it too deeply but Young has only played 24 games so far in 2.5 seasons of a possible 44 games. Not sure who else has missed time in that window that they all could have been on the field together but that's a huge number to tie up in the DL for a group that is rarely all healthy. If something has to give I think it's going to be Sweat. But, again, credit where it is due. He is a good player who knows how to get to the QB and now is playing well against the run. I'd just like to see him finish those opportunities more before we back the truck up. I think the DL goes through Allen AND Payne, to be honest. And in extension, the entirety of the defense. Curl is probably the next most important piece of the defense. I think he is an all-pro type of player (but he won't be because of my next sentence). Doesn't get his name in flashing lights because he doesn't make too many splash plays but he is all over the field and is about as sure of a tackler as you'll see in the League. Forrest isn't as sound, in fact he's kind of the opposite of Curl, which is what makes that grouping so fun to watch. Forrest misses more reads, but he has good recovery speed and is ALWAYS around the ball. He's not as sure of a tackler but he'll come downhill and blast someone. He's the flash, Curl is the silent assassin. It's a fun safety group.
  11. This is a list of people I’d take Heinicke over. So…. It says “Watson, because we can cheer for Heinicke.” As in he’s a guy you can root for and Watson is not.
  12. Was with a few of my buddies tonight and we played the “who would you take Heinicke over at quarterback” game. It was more nuanced than just overall skill level. We looked at it from a skill level + contract + learning curve perspective. Me and one other were Commander fans. The other was a Bills fan. We actually agreed across the board: AFC East - Zach Wilson and Mac Jones AFC South - Davis Mills, Matt Ryan, Ryan Tannehill (though we concluded if we were Tennessee we’d prefer Tannehill, so push here). AFC West - Wilson and Carr. But both were more about contracts than their ability. We all agreed both, even with Wilson’s down year are far superior quarterbacks but no where worth their cost. AFC North -Brissett/Watson (Brissett was a no brainer, Watson because we can cheer for Heinicke), Kenny Pickett NFC East - None (yes, including Jones. We concluded he is Heinicke with an arm and less moxie) NFC North - None NFC South - Dalton/Jameis, Marcus Mariota, Baker et. Al NFC West - None. Though Murray generated some discussion. So we figured we are more comfortable with Heinicke given full context than we’d be about 11-12 other starting QBs in this league. Seems about right. Keep in mind this is NOT about skill. Carr runs laps around Heinicke skill wise. We did talk skill wise as well quickly and basically arrived at us taking him over only Zach Wilson, Marcus Mariota, Brissett and Pickett and Baker and crew
  13. Everyone saying “it was over at halftime”, yes. Agreed. But we aren’t good enough to take our foot off the gas. We need to take every opportunity we can to convert scores. It’s going to bite us in the ass later.
  14. My friends aren’t making fun of me. It’s tremendous.
  15. Another game, another win. This is becoming old hat... Am I right? No? Okay then. Anyways, the offense was on the field for this one. Had some good drives, scored a touchdown. But overall the offense was fairly disappointing. This is a situation where you can look passed it a bit because of the way the game went, but when we are playing meaningful games against quality opponents the offense can't be as pedestrian as it was in this game. Terry McLaurin watch: Heading into today he was 13th all time in Washington Football Redskin Commander Team History with 3,827 yards. Today he added 55 yards bringing him to 3,882. #12 is Henry Ellard with 3930 (McLaurin is 49 yards away from passing him) and #11 is Michael Westbrook with 4,280. He's in range for both this year. On this season McLaurin has 46 receptions for 737 yards. Brian Robinson is a hammer. Guy carries people for extra yards and his presence to be the pounding, bell cow back has allowed Antonio Gibson in a role that lets the team use him as they should: Fresh and dynamically. Both guys have a ton of value to this offense under Heinicke, as it's become clear the plan is to pass the ball when needed and for balance but otherwise pound the rock. The offensive line continues to be an issue for this team, but they are doing enough to give Gibson and Robinson just enough space to get positive yardage and Heinicke is slippery enough to not get sacked. But make no mistake, the line isn't playing great. But it could be worse. Much worse. Case in point: See the Texans. Gibson is averaging 3.7 ypc and Robinson is averaging 3.4. And with how hard they've both been running it would be much worse if these guys weren't who they were. The OL needs to be fixed for this team to make a serious run into the playoffs in the next few seasons. Many think that will happen, I reserve the right to wait it out and see what happens. If it were easy no one would ever have a bad offensive line. But the thing we really need to talk about is the defense against Houston (and in general the last several weeks). 1. Houston was held to 2/13 on third down. (4/4 on fourth though). 2. The Texans had 5 yards at halftime and finished with 148 yards. I'm not sold on Sweat, I know, I know. He had two sacks. He always seems to show up against the bad teams but against the teams we need the sacks against he is a step or two short. I think he has tons of talent and he is explosive, but I just want to see him convert in big moments in big games. But having said that, credit where it's due. Sweat had 2 sacks and 2 TFL. But the most important part of this defense starts and ends in the interior of the defensive line. Our two best defensive players. Jon Allen and Daron Payne. Between them 3 sacks and 3 TFL. Every single week they dominate the interior of the line and it shows. John Ridgeway has been a good run stuffer when he isn't German Suplexing someone, as well. But man, that guy needs to play with a bit more sound judgement. There may not be a rule written that clearly states: "Thou shalt not take a running back to Suplex City" but I think that resides somewhere in the unnecessary roughness jurisdiction. Casey Toohill is quality depth and a good guy to get meaningful reps in meaningful games at DE. I feel similarly about James Smith-Williams. Though it looks like we are using Toohill as a 3-4 OLB type versus a true DE. I'm interested to see how Shaka Toney would do in that role as well. We also have ourselves a ballhawk in the secondary with Forrest at FS. Curl is Curl. He is a sure tackler, smart, a leader and all over the field. Forrest isn't in the right spot all the time, but he is around the ball most of the time and he tracks it very well. That combo at FS and SS together could be a combo that rises in "league safety rankings" very quickly. This is also where you hear this from me: As someone who hasn't been a big McCain fan at FS: I like him MUCH better at the LoS and able to use his football instincts. He is excellent in the nickel corner role and I'm glad we've found a fit. I wasn't big on Landon Collins until the move, either. McCain has a similar trajectory. I appreciate his value to the team in the current role. Kendall Fuller is a mixed bag but when he is good... he's real good. Jamin Davis was quieter today than he has been, but its nice to see him getting more confident. You can see it reflected in his play. Kudos to Del Rio and Turner for the adjustments they've made as well, and Rivera for getting and keeping this franchise on the same page. Studs and Duds: *** - Jon Allen *** - Montez Sweat *** - Daron Payne ** - Darrick Forrest ** - Kendall Fuller * - Antonio Gibson * - Brian Robinson * - Scott Turner (wasn't going to give him one, but his gameplan's with Heinicke have been magic as well. So just to get him out of the negatives...) * - Taylor Heinicke (same with Turner. Probably doesn't deserve a star here given the offensive performance but it's time to get him out of the negatives) * - Bobby McCain (see the above) - Only one today... John Ridgeway. Dude. Really? Season to date: * x 13 - Terry McLaurin * x 13 - Daron Payne * x 12 - Jon Allen * x 7 - Curtis Samuel * x 6 - Benjamin St-Juste * x 5 - Darrick Forrest * x 6 - Jamin Davis * x 5 - Jahan Dotson * x 5 - Antonio Gibson * x 3- Dyami Brown * x 3 - Back Judge in Vikings Game * x 2 - Kendall Fuller * x 2 - Joey Slye * x 5 - Montez Sweat * x 2 - Jack Del Rio * x 2 - Brian Robinson * x 1 - Rachad Wildgoose * x 1 - James Smith-Williams x 1 - Wes Schweitzer x 3 -Rivera's Clock Management x 3 - Cam Sims x 4 - John Ridgeway x 5 - Charles Leno x 5 - Trai Turner x 6 - Nick Martin x 6 - WJ3 x 7 - Sam Cosmi x 8 - Andrew Norwell
  16. I don't understand why there needs to be this much discussion on this topic (though, I kind of do. It's a discussion forum and what the hell else are we going to have back and forth convos about?) Heinicke is a player who is a gritty, hardnosed player who does everything that a quarterback is supposed to do in literally every aspect except physically, which is a spot where he is lacking and at times making bad decisions (but that is also what gives him some juice because those 50/50 balls are plays our guys thrive on) which is why he can't be our long term definitive starting QB. He is a backup type who can start if needed. Right now... it's needed. With a better QB on the roster? It won't be.
  17. Bingo. As long as they are in contention they are going to protect the rookie QB with two veterans and not hinge their success and put all that pressure on him and, quite frankly, the team wouldn't be thrilled being in the playoff hunt (like right now when Wentz is getting healthy) and elevating the rookie over the veteran. It doesn't make sense even if Howell is playing really well. He hasn't shown a thing on the field yet. If they are eliminated we will likely see Howell.
