  1. So we have Brown being murdered, and police "found" all of these drugs in his home with an outlandish story. It's pretty obvious what happened there. Biggest gang in America strikes again. But now they are murdering innocent women in their homes by shooting them through their window. I keep thinking about the 8 year old nephew who had to witness that. This **** has got to stop.
  2. I read an article a few years ago, probably around the time of the Ferguson riots, that talked about how local police were getting military grade equipment for massive discounts, but they would lose the right to have them if they didn't find a use for them. So every few years they get audited, and they have to prove they used the equipment and it has a need. This leads to them using armored SWAT vehicles on a raid on some low-level drug dealer's home for no damn reason. Or pulling it out during protests. Kinda off-topic, but they do have this kind of crap and no, they really don't have a use for it.
  3. It's said he was shot in the back and thigh. He was likely running away from the killer(s) when this happened. I can see why this happened in multiple ways. - Police angry at Brown for testifying took him out. I kinda find it unlikely considering he basically confirmed her testimony. - Local residents pissed that Guyger only got ten years take it out on Brown. Maybe they felt if his testimony showed she meant to kill Jean before arriving at the apt she would've got more years. - Or maybe Brown being a major witness on a high profile case provided people who had unrelated beef with him to know exactly where he lived and were able to capitalize on that. Either way, I'm pretty safe in feeling like Guyger is directly responsible for one death, and indirectly responsible for another.
  4. Based on her history prior to this incident, I think what people saw as "remorse" in the courtroom from Guyger was more like," I really don't want to go to jail when I didn't mean to do this". She would've felt justified in her actions if it really was her apartment, and Jean was just some weirdo who broke in and decided to eat her ice cream. In that fantasy scenario, her actions were still ridiculous considering he never proved to be a threat. Someone like this should've never been allowed to be an officer. I have zero remorse for officers who carelessly take lives and then have to go to jail with people who may target them. Should've cared about YOUR potential consequences the way us regular citizens do if we're in a situation like she was. Our response would not be to grab a gun one second after seeing someone in "our" apartment and fire two shots. She literally zeroed in on black guy instead "this isn't my furniture" or "my apartment doesn't look like this". There is so much wrong with her reaction that it deserves it's own discussion. Someone earlier proposed this case does not belong in this thread. I wholeheartedly disagree, it belongs here because the same ridiculous notion that she was above the law, that permeates throughout every police department in this country, as well as minorities being not as valued as other citizens, contributed greatly to her shooting a man dead without processing the numerous signs that would've given someone not indoctrinated in that BS pause.
  5. I have no problem with Jean's brother publicly forgiving her, and giving her a hug. As a Christian, it's what he's expected to do. And as a Christian, I'm reminded of how I sometimes fall short in the compassion department. Because I feel like I couldn't do it. Family can grieve in any way they see fit, and nobody should be criticizing that. Now this judge I have a different opinion. What she did was unprofessional. Does she hug every convicted murderer in her court? We all know the answer to that. How this case ended showed a startlingly amount of grace for a woman who laughed about MLK's assassination, and made disparaging remarks about her own fellow black officers. I really hope the performance she put on in that courtroom was genuine, but....I doubt it.
  6. I just watched one of the witness testimonies on YouTube. He says, after having to confirm his criminal history, that he heard her on the phone say she made a mistake and went into the wrong apt 2 minutes after he heard the gunshots. It doesn't appear she knew he was there, so maybe she is being truthful about how it occurred. It still doesn't change the fact people have to be accountable for their actions, and her reaction to a black man "in her apartment" was to shoot him twice without any hesitation.
  7. I heard she did a lot of crying on the stand, don't doubt for a second her showing up looking like she hadn't slept in six years and crying her eyes out wasn't schemed by the defense to garner sympathy. She gets none from me. She killed a man, I hope she rots in prison.
  8. Nah, I don't think she's telling the truth at all. I know this all speculation, but I think she knew who he was, she got angry for some reason, went to his apt and killed him. Immediately afterwards, she realized she'd ****ed up and this lame defense is all she could think of considering she was in his apt.
  9. Good. I haven't followed this case, but I'm fairly certain the intended to kill him and knew exactly where she was.
  10. Does anyone think the Netflix Marvel shows will eventually resurface on Disney+ after their initial MCU shows are released? It seems they wanted to rap up the side plots left unfinished after Endgame, but aren't going to be important enough to put into Phase 4.
  11. While I see what you mean, there is a huge section of Spider-Man comics where Peter uses his own technology to improve his tech. And Stark did give him an Iron Spider suit around the time of the Civil War in the comics, so all of that stuff is rooted in comic lore just as much as Spider-Man being a solo act was. There is this overarching "can I be a real hero?" story arc for the third season that really works, especially considering the differing opinions of the characters on what a hero actually is. But I think some of the final episode undoes some of what they developed, especially the last shot, but I get they wanted to keep it open ended considering the character has a chance to return on Disney+.
  12. Jessica and Trish are sisters on the show, that's why they put up with each other. I finished the the third season, it was actually better than the second season, but not by much. I think I can see why the actress who portrays JJ wasn't going to continue even if Netflix was still doing Marvel shows. The writers remind me of the writers for Supergirl, they don't have any clue how to write for the main character, and without being able to use strong storylines from the comics to use(for both characters, not being able to cast the right supporting characters prevents the better storylines from being used), they elevate the supporting characters that no one gives a crap about.
  13. I thought Chris Evans was good in a movie called Sunshine. Space flick. But yeah, he's pretty mediocre with not much range. Cap seems pretty easy to portray.
  14. Why hold children to a standard you don't even hold adults to?
  15. They wanted Noone to plead out so she wouldn't have to do any jail time waiting for trial. They knew damn well she wasn't the woman in the video, but finding the right person isn't really their goal. There has been a history of this kind of prosecutorial misconduct in PA.
  16. https://www.npr.org/2019/05/24/726887624/san-francisco-police-chief-apologizes-for-raid-on-home-of-freelance-journalist San Francisco Police Union Demands Chief's Resignation Over Raid Of Journalist's Home Scott had issued an apology Friday for a recent raid on the home of a freelance journalist, Bryan Carmody, in connection with the unauthorized leak of a police report about the death of the city's former public defender, Jeff Adachi. He told the San Francisco Chronicle that applications for warrants to search Carmody's home did not adequately identify him as a journalist. Scott also said the officers who executed the warrants violated department policy by not first consulting with the district attorney's office. The police union said Scott knew Carmody was a journalist, ordered the investigation and deceived the author of the search warrant about Carmody's press status.
  17. Grey Worm should've never even had a say it in anyway. He isn't a noble, and he was leaving as soon as that business was done. Likewise, Grey Worm not killing Jon immediately, or at least dying in the attempt makes the whole thing ridiculous to begin with.
  18. Nah, her ancestor did the same exact thing to Harrenhal when he first came to Westeros. He used his burning of Harrenhal and everyone inside as an example to the other Kings who had yet to surrender. The Stark King chose to bend the knee than subject his people to the same fate. Maybe Dany thought her doing the same to Kings Landing would bring the same result, but I doubt it....she was just angry. Her words in the finale are just her coming to terms with what she did and justifying it.
  19. Nah, if he was treating that ass like he was supposed to Dany wouldn't have burned KL and he may have actually convinced her to rule with him. Instead his dumb ass kept saying,"you are my queen" and killing the mood. He didn't stop Dany earlier because he was in love, he didn't do anything because of his honor.
  20. This is what I was talking about some days ago about coroners not being trusted in police investigations. They are frequently compromised and/or lacking the education or expertise for the job.
  21. Funny like how some people shake their head and laugh at someone's utter stupidity. Like dressing up as a Muslim for an active school shooter drill, and ignoring almost all active shooters in schools have been overwhelming white and male. If it was any other demographic our president would be ranting about it on a weekly basis, and we'd have politicians using it as a campaign talking point. But it's not, so it gets swept under the rug and forgotten until the next mass shooting happens.
  22. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7034183/Outrage-school-shooting-drill-involves-teacher-donning-Arab-style-keffiyeh.html Active Shooter drill at a high school decides to depict the active shooter as a Muslim, instead of just a person with a gun. Funny, considering most active shooters in American schools are overwhelmingly white and male.
  23. They gave it to the Pelicans because they are losing Anthony Davis. NBA draft "lottery that is conducted behind closed doors" is the most rigged thing in sports outside of the WWE.
