  1. Nice. One of the reasons I haven't been around this place that much,(that and too much temptation to ban..well,just about everybody ),is that I'm paying the price for my procrastination in the past. Though to be fair it's been damn busy otherwise on the work front. So I'm taking nearly every opportunity to finish a host of projects. We,(the wife and I),largely dejunked our side yard then redesigned our garden and outdoor living space. This meant moving the garden,(2 large 4x8 planters and several small ones),taking apart the roughed out outdoor kitchen spot and bar and starting over. So far built a small fence around the front yard that's built of wine barrel planters and redwood rails and changed a lot of the irrigation as a result. Built 2 small decks a couple teof weeks ago and about 2 months ago we built a small patio by the newly designed and built shade garden,(that one is going to be redone next Spring),and I've started to work on the outdoor bar area. I'm using a Quickrete walkmaker to make our own pavers,(which we did for the small garden patio),and got a good distance in a short time before the wildfire smoke started to chase us in. I'm tired of messing around with this **** so the N95 is going and I'm going to at least finish the pavers and such before the end of the month,(I hope). I'll be finishing the trim work and wainscot in the main hallway in the house along with final touch up on the tile floors as well as all that. Then it's time to have fun building stuff for the outdoor kitchen and bar. I'll get some pics tomorrow. Oh and btw, some really nice work being done by all of you. Well done.
  2. Fell off,(okay. Jumped off),the healthy eating wagon tonight and had Pizza and beer.
  3. The evacuation warning I mentioned above included the Kingsbury Grade area,(big homes and condos that wind their way all round the mountain side and some of them right at Heavenly Ski resort. They made it mandatory about an hour ago. As in Extreme Emergency alert. Hell even I got that message on my phone and I'm a ways away. Checked the NDOT traffic cams in the area and several cars and heavy police presence heading up and probably spreading out. Looks like the fire is on its way there.
  4. They've issued evacuation warnings for the Foothills of the Carson Valley below Heavenly. Fire is continuing to move that way. Read a report,(can't find it now),that firefighters on the ground say it's heading for the Heavenly Valley as well. The area that's under warning in the Carson valley is about 7.5 miles away. I'll be watching. Glad to hear about your brothers house. Have a couple of coworkers that live in the area as well. As of right now, still no structures lost in the Tahoe area of the fire. Echo Summit area seems to have taken the brunt of that one. Wind warning ends tomorrow evening. Crossing fingers. AQI where I live is 414 right now. Cough cough.
  5. Watching this right now. South Eastern partof the fire near Caples Lake and Kirkwood. It's spotting ahead about 1/4 to 1/2 mile as I watch. Leapfrogging through the wilderness. This sucks. Yeah. It jumped right across 89 and it's on its way to Nevada now.
  6. That stunned me too. I mean I knew it was kind of a possibility, but figured thatmight we something to look at today when the winds got going. Shows how dry it is out here and how thisee fires can creat their own weather. It's going to be a long day up there.
  7. Firefighters have done an amazing job containing it in several areas,(considering some of the terrain),and remarkable, successful efforts at saving structures but this beast just doesn't want to be tamed. Just too dry out there. Smoke here in the valley on the other side of the Tahoe mountains just turned dark with that brown smoke from the fire.
  8. Sorry to hear that. It's moving now and the winds haven't even started heavy yet. 11:00 PT and it's already doing this. The column on the right is closing in on the second pic. I read that moisture levels for trees in the area are lower than the kiln dried lumber at the store. Yikes.
  9. Meanwhile out here in the West closer to home. Last night Leek Springs cam. http://www.alertwildfire.org/tahoe/index.html?camera=Axis-Leek&v=fd40740
  10. They're taking as much advantage of the variable winds in the area,(fire's creating its own winds in a few places though),before tomorrow and in to Monday when some high winds come back to the area. Possible red flag warning for Monday I think. Crossing fingers the lines hold.
  11. Just read that from this guy. Getting ready for those winds again. Beast made some runs yesterday and they're trying to get ahead of it again it appears. Can't say enough about the work they're doing in structure protection everywhere with this thing.
  12. Zeke here,(he's really good at the fire mapping thing),,said it best a week ago with this tweet. That's a huge area he's talking about and includes Hope Valley which is just South of Tahoe. Desolation Wilderness is a good natural barrier that they can enforce, but there's more than one way to get to Tahoe. I've watched these wildfires out here for awhile now,(a few of them from a fairly close distance),and they can turn on dime and blow up fast at any time. These firefighters are doing amazing work though. This is some of the more rugged terrain to fight one in and they have made some progress. Still hasn't crossed 50 in force so that's something. It's sad to see a lot this burn though. Some great terrain to see and a few little towns that are cool to drive though. Lot's of history too. Grizzly Flats got pretty much burned off the map and that's a rough one. There's been a huge fight to save Omo Ranch and the surrounding area. Fire really wants to burn **** down there and the firefighters are having none of it if they can help it. Big time heroics going on there right now including night drops. Here's hoping the weather cooperates and your brother, (great he's helping folks out),and others don't have to dd out of there.
  13. as for the smoke. Yeah. It's nasty. Hit over 400 last night and this a.m parts of Tahoe were 700 and above.
  14. Sad to hear about this. My condolences to his wife and daughter. One of the good guys. And yeah. If you're going to have a legacy on a message board,The Season Is oVer thread would be a good one,(or ones). They were epic.
  15. Good grief. She's getting the twitter version of this:
