  1. I don't feel bad for any of the legacy players. Unless there was something said to them in private different from Deion was saying publicly, they really should have known that all positions on the team were up for grabs. As for impact to the game and media buzz, Colorado and Prime were definitely a hot September story. I'm sure it was tough to even accomplish what he was able to at Colorado. That said, when all is said and done, it seems like a pretty uninspired pick unless it's just about headlines and buzz generated (which it might be). There have to be coaches out there who led better improvements at their schools (more than 3 games). What about the JMU coach who has his team deserving a bowl game in year 2 of their move to FBS? Anyway, I'm not upset about it...I personally love Deion...but I have to assume someone else was more deserving.
  2. I'm sorry to hear that, Tom. You are one of my favorite members of this forum (opposing fan or not). I hope, outside of what you just shared, things are going well otherwise. Take care!
  3. Was that the game that Sanu threw a TD on one of the first plays from scrimmage against us?
  4. I don't understand the angst. I mean, I guess I do, but for all the things that Rivera does horribly he also does some things consistently well too: win November games more often than not and sometimes beat ****ty teams. I think both those things intersect this weekend.
  5. Yeah, we are somewhere more than most and less than what you describe. We have a big freezer in the garage that is filled with meat and dinners. We have a bunch of canned vegetables and instant food that we could make also. We also have 12-15 gallons of water (not nearly enough but, again, more than we had a year ago). Our house is stocked with a bunch of firewood, batteries, etc. In short, we could "get by" for a while without feeling too panicked.
  6. I'm all in on Texas. But, man, what luck that the two best Oriole teams I've seen in the past decade ran into buzzsaws in the playoffs.
  7. People swing like a pendulum in here... Washington isn't as bad as last night, nor are they as good as last Sunday. The Falcons aren't very good and, unlike the Bears, aren't dangerously trending upward either. The Bears not only were capable of games like last night, but were actually predicted by many to have a breakout season. For many people who didn't chug the Burgundy and Black koolaid this summer, a game like last night isn't complete shocking. Atlanta, on the other hand, just won't be able to pull away like that. They'll put up some rushing yards (maybe). But the difference is that I can't see them topping out at more than 23-27 points. Howell can get to that total in a half, as we've seen. Ridder is bad. That's something that Fields, Hurts, Allen, Wilson, and (we've come to see) Dobbs aren't. They are all somewhere between decent to exceptional. Atlanta will get theirs, but the Skins will be fine. Washington 31 Atlanta 20
  8. On one hand, it's pretty cool that no matter what we will be playing far past the rest of the division. On the other hand, I'm pretty scared of Texas. That's the one team I feared the most (based on how we matched up in the regular season) in the AL playoffs. Even though Tampa was probably "better" than Texas, there's the comfort of familiarity with the Rays that you get when you play them 13 times that you just know you'll probably end up going 4-5 games. We'll see...I hope by the end of this weekend I'm laughing at myself about worrying for nothing because we're up 2-0 or the series is tied 1-1.
  9. Pretty methodical win for Washington coming up...the Bears are a mess and I see the Skins scoring pretty easily when they need to. Bears 6 Washington 27
  10. What a season...I have to admit that I was telling my son coming into the year that I was expecting a bit of a regression because I felt they might have been a year ahead of schedule last year. Maybe that was my Norvitis setting in, I don't know. But I feel like baseball can work that way sometimes and isn't always linear. Anyway, I really hope they match or eclipse what they did in 2014...that team and 1997 are the best two teams I've ever seen before this season and neither one gave me a true sense that they were going to play in the Fall Classic. The nice thing about this team is that I can truly see a "next 5 years" regardless of how 2023 ends.
  11. They did it to Philly last year...I can't imagine he's incapable to learning. He's succeeded in the league for years.
  12. They match up MUCH better against Philly than Buffalo. I see this as a lower-scoring game... Eagles might jump out early like every game has seemed to go, but the Skins will stick to the run and battle back. Howell will make some plays and steal the W. Washington 22 Philly 20
  13. Unlike some in here, I can still tolerate Grant & Danny and I still like Sheehan. But Doc is just unbelievably awful. I can't understand how I ever spent time listening to him several years ago and thinking "You know, he's right...if the Tarantula can just motivate Wildebeest and the Barracuda to patrol the secondary with reckless abandon, then maybe the Hurricane can make enough plays on the other side of the ball to want it more than the bad guys!"
  14. Here's how sad I am...when that score crept up toward 70 on Sunday, one of my first thoughts was of Dan T.
  15. Yep, you're right: https://www.mlb.com/news/rays-clinch-2023-playoff-berth
  16. I'm sure he'll play 11 snaps, get altitude sickness, and be out 3 weeks with nasal congestion. I think Washington wins this one pretty methodically. Howell will make a point to get the ball out of his hands on time or pull it down and run, which won't give Denver a chance to make big plays on defense. I don't think Wilson can do much against the defense himself, even though I'm sure they'll hit a play or two in the passing game (every team does in the league). I see a 24-10ish type win.
  17. It's amazing to me that this was 22 years ago. In two years, this will be "half my life ago" and that's so strange to me. I was working in Rosslyn and had basically just arrived at work when the news broke of the first plane in NY. A co-worker and I went into a conference room to watch one of the morning shows for a few minutes. I don't think I saw the second plane live, but saw reports of it because I just kept refreshing CNN at my desk. That's when it got a little chaotic since it became clear that our nation was under attack. It got VERY chaotic for us locally when we felt the rumble of the Pentagon nearby (for anyone not local, Rosslyn isn't too far away). I don't remember timelines, but it couldn't have been more than an hour when they made the decision to send us home. All of Arlington was evacuating at the same time because that's when the rumors were swirling. Our building was "the tallest in that area" (whether that's true or not, I have no idea) so people were panicking. The drive home with my roommate who worked at a building across the street took 2 hours even though we lived two Metro stops away. Surreal.
  18. This one will be the culmination of a spring and summer of great vibes and positivity. Washington jumps out early and coasts in the second half. Just because some pretty good Skins teams haven't been able to do it to some pretty bad teams in a long time, I won't predict a shutout. But it'll be close to one. The score won't reflect how one-sided the game is - something like 30-6, but feels more like 45-0.
  19. But there are degrees of knowledge on a subject. I'm not a data scientist, but my company and teams spend plenty of time working in data analytics. That makes me MORE of an expert than Ron based on what I've heard him spew out. I wouldn't try to "school" Ron because I don't care enough, but if I felt the need to do so, I could. Not being smarter than YOU in the topic doesn't mean I don't have the right to lecture a football coach who claims to use said topic. It's like when you're at a sports bar or Super Bowl party and some jackass says something stupid about football like he knows his ****. We aren't Bill Belichick, but we feel plenty comfortable correcting him that, no, they shouldn't have brought in their backup QB with 12:43 left in the first quarter.
  20. As someone who just needed U-8.5 to hit (as part of a same-game parlay) to win over $100 on a $5 bet, that late-inning pitching was certainly disappointing. It made it all better when they came through and won the game anyway. But hitting the parlay would have been sweet.
  21. I'm sure you're right on the first point. I'm just creating an alternate history for my edification. As for the name, I agree that pressure would have been applied. But for the name to actually change, that took a perfect storm of our owner pissing off a minority owner (who happened to run our largest sponsor) and our owner/the team having virtually no remaining friends/good will built up to help. I think if Harris, for example, owned the team in the mid-2010s then we'd still be Redskins (though I agree that people would still be trying to get us to change it). Keep in mind, as far back as the 1980s (and maybe earlier than that, but that's my earliest memory), there were calls to change the name. It wasn't until sponsors pulled out that it was seriously considered...and I'll never believe that the sponsorship decisions were ONLY about the name. It was far more about the feud Snyder was having with his minority owners. If that isn't going on (or those minority owners are already on a boat somewhere due to the sale), then I don't think the George Floyd summer of 2020 would have been enough to change a 85-year old brand.
