  1. If Goodell does that, I really can't see how he doesn't come out looking extremely guilty himself. That would not go over well...at all.
  2. That's a pretty good way of looking at things. For decades (nearly a century) generations of fans identified with the Redskins through long stretches of success and failure.
  3. Right. I was very passionate about the team until I stepped away for moral reasons in 2020 when the cheerleader video came to light. With him gone, the conflicted feelings can be lifted. But what I'm finding is that those old passionate feelings that I felt from 1982 through 2019 just aren't there anymore.
  4. I can speak for myself... I wasn't just never going to attend a game, I was actively rooting against his team after some of the latest allegations had come to light. His actions hit my family pretty closely, so I understand not everyone felt the need to draw such a tough line. With Snyder selling, the idea of watching a game or just simply not hoping the local team lost is back on the table. But here's the catch...you can't make yourself care. I don't know the full impact he's had on my passion for the team, so I'll have to wait and see if I wake up on Sundays with butterflies or if I find myself just watching RedZone as we have done since 2020... I expect I'm not the only fan in that boat.
  5. However much money they make...the "organization" is a group of 32 individuals that can choose to govern any way they'd like. Similarly, they can choose to punish any way they'd like too. When those rules for that extremely unique season were put into place, the 2-3 teams that violated them should have realized they were going to be punished.
  6. This is where we are all treading into speculation...so I certainly understand your point. However, with the NFL being nothing more than 32 "partners" who all agree to things and vote on things, I personally see it the other way. With the very unprecedented things that were coming that year, I can understand why the owners got together and made handshake deals not violate the spirit of certain things during the uncapped year. They may not have wanted to write up a bunch of new rules that wouldn't be relevant ever again... It would be no different than if some glitch was going to happen in a fantasy football keeper league and every player's status was going to be reset to "FA" at midnight or something. If everyone was told to leave the players alone and I rounded up the best QB, RBs, WRs, etc. that would be pretty ****ty and annoying. It makes perfect sense that the ones who exploited the loopholes despite the warnings and pre-stated gentlemen's agreements were slapped on the wrist based on the level of advantages they gained.
  7. He had a much better QB, no doubt. But he also had no defense whatsoever. Rivera has been given a very good defense in Washington that only one other regime has had. I don't think Rivera is a very good coach at all. I think his track record in Washington and Carolina prove that. He has what, 3 impressive seasons? And in 2 of those he had Cam Newton playing at either an MVP level or in MVP consideration...every other season he's been at or below .500. He is liked by his players and keeps the locker room focused. That's admirable. So while Snyder is off filming his cheerleaders in the nude, Rivera is able to keep his team galvanized. I like that in a person, but I don't really care about that as the BEST quality in a football coach if they can't ultimately win games.
  8. I'm not really promoting Gruden...simply pointing out that this isn't the most competitive this team has been under Snyder as was mentioned. It was MORE competitive with the regime right before him over a longer period of time. I was told earlier in this thread that the current roster was better than it's been in quite some time with Rivera building it up. Now Gruden had a better roster than Rivera does? That's either an indictment of Rivera the coach (unable to win as much as Gruden with his incredible roster assembly) or Rivera the roster builder (not able to build a better roster than Snyder and Vinny), isn't it? You can't have it both ways. Every coach under Snyder has been given an impossible job...they all have to work under the worst owner in organized sports. Rivera is just as poor as the rest of them, probably worse than all but Spurrier and Zorn because Snyder barely meddled after year 1.
  9. Rivera's predecessor had a longer and more successful stretch (2015-2018) under this same toxic owner. Gruden actually made the playoffs and had back-to-back winning seasons. He had a 4-year run of 9-7 (playoffs), 8-7-1, 7-9, and 7-9 before cratering. That's more "consistently competitive" than Rivera since they made the playoffs one year and went into the final game of the next year with a shot.
  10. I don't disagree that Dan is the primary reason that this team has won only 43% of its games while he's owned them. But, I don't think Dan's ****ty ownership is the culprit for every facet of Rivera's mediocrity. It wasn't Dan's corner-cutting that led Rivera not to understand that his team could be eliminated from playoff contention in the second-to-last game of the season last year. It wasn't ONLY Dan's obsession with jersey sales that prevented Rivera from better addressing the QB position over the past 4 years. It wasn't Dan's cheerleader porn videos that caused Rivera to start his first 3 seasons 2-7, 3-6, and 1-4. So, as much as Dan puts his coaches at a disadvantage, Rivera has contributed plenty of his own factors to the crappy product since 2020.
  11. The WR who was handed to Rivera is the one most people rave about. Dotson was a good draft choice and Samuel has been hot and cold so far as a FA signing. So, overall he was gifted his #1 WR, the jury is still out on his FA acquisition, and things look good on his first-round pick.
  12. @goskins10 14 of Snyder's 20 years before Rivera were between 6-10 and 10-6...that's mediocre. 3 of the other 6 years, they won 5 games. In fact, most of us spent a large time complaining that this team never bottomed out often enough to be in a position to ever draft a difference-making QB. Snyder's NFL winning percentage is 43% and Rivera has won 45% of his games in Washington. They are one in the same. The culture is fine. But that culture isn't too much different than it was at various times under Marty and Gibbs. The roster building that you mention has been fine too, but nothing wonderful. The OL is in flux. The DL was built when he arrived. The best WR was here when he arrived. The DBs and LBs are question marks. And still, despite a decent amount of money and 4 off-seasons, still no closer to any answer at QB. The strength of the team is WR and DL, the two areas that were handed to Rivera when he walked through the door. Now, he retained those players (something other coaches rarely did with second contracts, which goes to the slightly better culture), but that's it. He didn't BUILD much.
  13. Dan is an awful owner and, somehow, a worse human being. But that should not excuse Ron Rivera for his mistakes or sub-mediocre job in Washington. I would be careful giving him too much credit. I'll take a few of your statements above individually... "But he did change the culture at least in the lockerroom..." I suppose he might have. I think he's a limited coach, but a good person and hard-nosed guy. The players wherever he's coached clearly like him and take accountability, so that's something. But, when all is said and done, that's a "culture" that leaves when the next regime comes in anyway so we'll see how lasting it is. It also didn't translate to much other than a couple of surprise wins over better teams (Pittsburgh, Philly, etc.) over the 3 years so far. "...and restored at least some dignity to us fans." I'm not sure what that means, but I don't really know how fans would be more proud of Rivera than Shanahan, Gibbs, Marty, etc. I could understand Zorn and Spurrier (at the end). I personally like Gruden better, but he didn't do well here either and I realize he ran a looser ship. "We are not an automatic W on everyones calendar anymore." This is the biggest fallacy that people write on this board and Twitter that annoys me the most (no offense to you individually, because you're not alone). Snyder was a horrible man. He ran a God-awful football organization and, what's worse, he treated people like crap. But, very rarely did he have coaches come through here who did tangibly worse in their tenures than Rivera has. Outside of maybe 3-4 seasons, they've always fielded pretty mediocre, "Riverian" teams. Snyder's ownership is littered with 6-, 7-, and 8-win seasons...just like Rivera's. Anyway...just wanted to throw in my two cents. I think Rivera is a good person, but I don't think he really did too much here other than add slightly more accountability in the locker room and kick the can for 4 additional years on finding a QB.
  14. No way. I don't think he's done well in this role. I think he's a snake. What I'm saying is I think he could do fine...even well...as a top executive atop SOME million- or billion-dollar organization. As the face of a large company fielding questions about Coca-Cola or IBM products? I think he does that quite well. He's smart, quick, and BSes very well. Where it breaks down for him is when many of the customers know and care a lot more than he does. That doesn't happen too often outside of sports.
  15. Look, I have been extremely critical of Wright in his role with this team. But, this is a pretty tough job with a lot of moving parts and A LOT of visibility with a PASSIONATE customer base. I have no doubt he would do very well in any number of slightly lower-profile jobs with similar responsibilities. I'm not talking within the NFL...but as an executive at the top of an organization spinning decisions and being the front man? He does that very well. We just happen to know when he's full of **** because we know the intimate details between the 1982 Super Bowl-winning Skins and the 1983 runner-ups on the crest. In many businesses, that type of stuff is far less important to the customer base.
  16. That's a rational thought, but fair is fair. If the organization did this and it's proven...even if it was Snyder himself...I'm not sure it's fair to the other 31 teams NOT to punish them.
  17. I know you're being facetious here, but that would be a travesty. Ed Sheeran is pretty talented and there's really nothing wrong with being inspired by existing music out there. I remember about 15 years ago when most people I knew were drinking bourbon and coke, I decided to add a splash of spicy ginger ale to mine at home. I thought I was a genius and ordered it at a bar a couple weeks later. The bartender said "Kentucky Mule? You got it..." and my bubble was burst pretty quickly. But, your point is valid...people can come up with ideas independently even if they've been "discovered" before.
  18. But my biggest issue whenever people do that type of comparison you did above is that you never know that the same people are making those same arguments. Just because hundreds of people say one thing then hundreds say the next thing, how do you know they are the same hundreds of people to make them hypocrites? It's a strawman argument unless you know that @twitterguy11 thinks it's cool when teens bone teachers but a travesty when they read porn in schools.
  19. Eh, that's a false narrative though. The social media comments don't truly reflect how an individual parent would react if his 13-year old son was having sex with his teacher. I can both say "damn, I wish 13-year old me could have boned a hot teacher" and "I'd be livid if my 13-year old's teacher boned him...it could severely F him up."
  20. Yeah, I think it was the entire story. Of course, the optics of what you mentioned but also the odd interaction between the two men.
  21. I think the idea that he shushed the president (and another grown man) by pressing his finger awkwardly against that man's mouth is pretty odd. I can't remember the last time I did that to my kids in private, let alone considering doing that to another man in public.
  22. There were so many years I've wished that! Then I get all stupidly defiant the 2-3 times we are good and say to myself "I'm glad we did that **** in the AL East!!!" like a fool.
  23. Despite being CRUSHED the evening before watching that game, my sister and I cracked up when we saw that (or a very similar) picture in the Post the next day. We as elementary school kids thought he looked like a duck. But I was so mad all week...I was barely aware of the 1982 Super Bowl team and so disappointed in the 1983 letdown. So I was positive 1986 was my year. Oh, and mine is just dumb-dumb Dan Snyder, obviously.
