Snowball fight

I threw a hail mary lead pass snowball that traveled about as far as I could throw at the time (about 14 maybe?). My sister was walking and went right into its path, hitting her right in the face.  I'm telling you, Brunell couldn't have thrown a better pass. Well, make that Ramsey, sounds better.

Hey OM or JW (or any Hokie alum for that matter), did you ever involve yourself in those snowball fights with the Corps of Cadets?

Yep.

Except they got kind of rough.

Someone (I believe it was the rotcs) started putting rocks inside the snow balls.

And I swear the one rotc who nailed me had a rock in it; a snowball would NOT have shattered the lense in my glasses.

Ice balls started going through the rotc dorm windows after the rocks were inserted into the snowballs. They retreated in dissarray like a good rotc....

I remember the day after a blizzard. Does two feet count as a blizzard? We had the greatest snow fall fight anywhere. We were just launching each other into the snow. A lot of fun, at least until this big guy falls on top of me. For a few seconds there I thought I was going to suffocate.

Well, last report I've heard is we're sitting at about 240% or so of average snow pack. It's weird here. In Park City, up to around 6 plus feet has fallen, but when all is said and done, they are reporting a base of around 5 feet on the mountain. Snowbird, about 10 miles as the crow flies, and a great deal higher, reports a base of about 78 inch base. Where I live, just outside Park City, you wouldn't have know it's snowed at all up until last Sunday. After that, things have gotten white. About 8 inches last week and the same yesterday, supposed to do the same today, but warmer, could melt this stuff some.

When I was living in the dorms at Michigan State we used to have a huge snowball fight after the first snow between two of the dorms, John Holmes hall (and no I'm not making that up, we used to get discounts to porn flicks) and Akers hall. There would be hundreds of students hurling snowballs at each other trying to get control over the median in the road between the two dorms. Quite fun.

Soonerz, I'll bring back another winter thread for ya, I don't want to hijack this one.

flyingtiger1013, you can trade places with me. When I retire, it's going to be on a nice warm beach.

JoeSkins, He has a house in town, ( a very nice one needless to say. We built the one next to his), but I'm guessing he's not the biggest of party goers. We'll just stick to Mainstreet with it's oh.... 12 bars or so. Now that's convenient bar hopping.

Now about the thread. Haven't had a snowball fight on site yet, but there will be sooner or later. This much snow? Boys will be boys. Just have to be careful. On a construction site, never know what could be in that snowball. Ouch.

Had one time as kids where my friends and I were pegging cars from up on an embankment. We were throwing down at the cars as they passed by (not smart I know....and I'd be pretty pissed today if a kid did it to me...didn't realize at about 9 or 10 yrs old it could cause an accident). Anyway, one day we pegged this car...3 or 4 of 'em hit the windhiels and drivers window. The guy slams on his brakes, runs up the embankment and chases us through the woods for about a half mile. Almost caught me by the hood of my jacket.

Also, word of advice...when your Dad works for the phone company..and he's had to work 36 hours straight because of all the downed lines after a blizzard...it's not a good idea to try to start a snowball fight with him...it really isn't.

Boy, I was stupid as a kid...

Hey JoeSkins...just noticed you are from Shelton...I'm a stones throw from ya....Ansonia.

Snowball fight gets OK

In Wauconda: Lions Club event Jan. 29

By Mary McIntyre

SPECIAL TO THE NEWS SUN

WAUCONDA — Let the snowball fight begin.

The Village Board Tuesday night unanimously approved a permit for the Wauconda Winterfest, sponsored by the Wauconda Lions Club. The Jan. 29 event tentatively includes a 3,000-person snowball fight, a bonfire, and a Fruitcake Fling into Bang's Lake.

Some residents,, Trustee John Amrich among them, had expressed conceerns that having the largest ever snowball fight in Wauconda will cause lawsuits against the village.

Village Attorney Rudolph Magna told the Board that approving a permit for the bonfire would not make it liable for any problems arising from the snowball fight.

"We have no liability exposure for that," Magna said.

"A lot of residents are not happy," Amrich said. "I'm not in favor of a snowball fight."

Amrich, however, voted for the bonfire permit after Magna's comments. Trustee Lorrie Godawa also said Magna's statement convinced her to vote for the permit.

"People are quick to sue," Amrich said.

At last week's Committee of the Whole meeting, Amrich said injuries from a snowball fight could end in lawsuits. His concerns continued Tuesday.

"I'm not too crazy about the snowball fight," he said. "I think that's not a very good idea."

Trustee Salvatore Saccomanno, a member of the Wauconda Lions Club,, said the fight is nothing to worry about.

"It will not be an aggressive event," Saccomanno said. The participants would stand about 70 feet away from each other and there would be people watching out for aggressive fighters.

"People are just going to be tossing snowballs," he said.

The Lions Club hopes to raise money for charity with this inaugural event.

It also includes an ice sculpting contest, a Winter Ice Olympics, a chili cookoff, and the Grumpiest Old Men Ice Fishing Derby.

Saccomanno asked if he should recuse himself from the vote, because he is a Lion. However, Magna noted, he had no financial interest in the bonfire permit.

So long as it's not Derby, I'll only hate you at 85%. :D

Yeah, I can honestly say that in my high school career (Pop Warner too, actually), we never beat Ansonia once.

Representing the valley.

I've gotten that one. Except we used to make lots of snowballs and stage them. So what happens to snowball dipped in water sitting outside in the winter for a while?:(

Poor Derby...everyone in the Valley hates them :D

Too bad you never beat Ansonia...what I'm about to say is blasphemous, but I love it when they get beat. They'd hang me from the light pole on Main St if I ever said that in public...but growing up in the 70's when they were one of the best high school teams in the nation...well, it got kind of old listening to that crap every week.

Anyway...I remember at our bus stop...every kid on the block would fire snowballs at the bus as it came down the road toward us. One time we did it the old guy driving the bus opened the door and said, "You little ****s think you are funny. Well guess what...you have to walk to school today because I'm not taking you...haha that's funny isn't it". He closed the door and drove off...

(I imagine today that bus driver would be fired, but 25-30 years ago it worked.)
