Dan T.
Frontier Airlines announced today that they are buying Spirit Air. The merger will create the 5th largest airline in the U.S. behind United, American, Delta, and Southwest. Frontier and Spirit to merge, creating America's fifth-largest airline (nbcnews.com) The deal, valued at $6.6 billion, is structured with Frontier Airlines controlling 51.5 percent of the merged airline while Spirit will hold the remaining 48.5 percent. Still to be determined is the name of the combined carrier, who will be CEO, and the location of the airline’s headquarters. ~~ I've flown on Frontier a time or two with no issues. Never flew on Spirit, but I've heard horror stories. Hopefully the merger creates a viable, reliable low cost competitor,,.

Warhead36
Frontier is cheap AF and they pinch pennies everywhere but all around its actually not that bad. Spirit is the worst. Absolutely the worst.

If we (passengers) are lucky, the merger creates a stronger company positioned to offer a better product. But yeah, it could go the other way too. I don't see them challenging Southwest or Alaska Airlines.
Dan T.
Spirit horror story... A friend flew from DC to Myrtle Beach for a wedding. Great, except his luggage went to Dallas. So he scrambled to borrow and buy stuff to wear to the wedding. As he's getting ready to fly home on Sunday, his luggage from Dallas shows up in Myrtle Beach. And then Spirit has the chutzpah to charge him bag fees for sending his luggage to Dallas and then late to Myrtle Beach. Which, needless to say, he did NOT pay.

Riggo-toni
This merger seems anti-competitive to me. I can see Frontier raising prices now that there is no more competition for the cheap stuff
