Corcaigh
So much for that cliche ... Eliud Kipchoge runs 26.2 miles in 1:59:40, averaging 4:34/mile ... that's 15.4 seconds for the length of a football field more than 461 times in a row. https://www.npr.org/2019/10/12/769732863/eliud-kipchoge-dashes-past-2-hour-marathon-barrier-in-assisted-event

Dr. Do Itch Big
That’s insane. I couldn’t run a mile in 4:45 let alone 26.
wrilbo67
I live right by the 11 mile mark on the Chicago marathon route. This morning the women’s winner set a new world record. It was an amazing weekend for distance running.
tshile
But it doesn’t count as a record
Destino
It's a wonder that people that do incredible things like this are the same species as me. I'm filled with pride when my watch tells me I walked 10 miles at the end of the day.
Elessar78
I'm impressed by the run, truly. But I'm equally impressed at the behind-the-scenes to help him break the record. • Vienna was picked because it was only an hour time difference from EK's training city. • Vienna also has a mild climate, good chance it was going to be dry and maybe overcast, and at a similar elevation as the training city. • He ran a mostly flat course, relatively straight course • The course was freshly paved • He had an electric pace car (and an extra one in reserve) set to the record-breaking pace • Organizers had planned the most efficient path on the course • The pace car projected this preselected route on the ground • He had elite runners as pace setters • He had several groups of them who switched on and off to maintain the pace • The runners formed an aerodynamic wall in front of EK • He wore unreleased Nike's • Reflective sleeves to reduce sun impact

Which is why it doesn’t actually count and he didn’t break the record. they said he needs to do it in a sanctioned event. Which is a nice way of saying do it without being catered to for the purposes of breaking the record its impressive. But it’s not a new record. It doesn’t really count.
