One early trade permitted...

Assuming Cousins leaves or is traded, I think this draft would greatly bolster the offense at the skill positions and I like TE Thomas in the fourth as quality depth in the event Reed falls off a cliff physically and Davis retires in the next couple years (both are very possible realities...or is it, very real possibilities? Anyway...). Ridley should become that true #1 WR that this offense needs to go with #2 WR Doctson and Gallup would be another potentially dynamic WR to infuse into this group. I would like to think that RB Michel could push for the starting RB position.

On Defense, grabbing FS/SS Reid could make for another versatile Safety to add to this group including Swearinger, Everett and Cravens (assuming he sticks with the team). DE Speaks could eventually slide into the DE position opposite Jonathan Allen and DT Lampkin could develop into that true NT that this 3-4 defensive front has been lacking. OLB Leonard should provide depth and the EDGE rusher position in the event Gallette leave in FA.

Is fanspeak worth paying for?

Yes. I do it every year. I despise the other software that people are using ^ because it's so unbelievably unrealistic.

FanSpeak has some trades that are slightly unrealistic from time to time, but usually it's pretty straight forward, especially if you use the difficult setting. Also, the Ultimate GM tool is a fun way to get a gauge (as best as possible) on the free agent market. Both on what players might go for, but also in what you can squeeze into your cap.

Just saw you like playing the other system (drawing a blank on the name of it) to see how high you can score. FanSpeak does not have that feature, so you do miss out on that gratification, but it's a solid all-around tool that I feel is as realistic as they get.

Wanted to do a pure, non-trade BPA. And by BPA I mean, top player at a position that isn't already filled (so no OT, QB basically). I used Matt Miller's draft board.

1.13: Derrius Guice, RB LSU (#13 overall) - ahead of #10 overall OT Connor Williams as only higher rated player

2.12: Dallas Goedert, TE SDSU (#38 overall) - top player available

4.13: Auden Tate, WR FSU (#108 overall) - top available player

5.12: Skai Moore, Jr. LB South Carolina (#149 overall) - top player behind a RB I'd never heard of hah

That was a boring draft, and an example of why BPA, particularly in a year when you don't have a lot of picks, might not yield the best results. No doubt, I love Goedert and Guice and our offense would be immensely better with those two and Tate as a massive WR target (not the speed we need though). But not addressing defense until Round 5 is concerning.

Here's what I got from a trade-down scenario that was more "need based BPA" than pure BPA. And I loved it.

*Traded 1.13 to Buffalo for 1.21 + 1.22

*Traded 1.22 to Dallas for 2.18 + 3.17 + 4.16 + 4.36

*I turned 1.13 into 1.21 and added a 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 4th ... I just preached how FanSpeak is realistic with trades, but that does seem incredibly unrealistic. But basically fleecing the Bills for 21/22, which many have agreed is unlikely, drives this draft.

1.21: Vita Vea, NT Washington

2.12: Leighton Vander Esch, ILB Boise St.

2.18: Isaiah Wynn, LG Georgia

3.17: Nick Chubb, RB Georgia

4.13: Kevin Tolliver II, CB LSU

4.16: Kameron Kelly, FS San Diego State

4.36: Deontay Burnett, WR USC

5.12: Kyle Lauletta, QB Richmond

6.13: Dmitri Flowers, FB (TE) Oklahoma

I stopped there. I reached on some of these guys. Some in the earlier rounds were 8-12 picks down the board, while some (Lauletta, Tolliver) were taken a full round ahead of where they're slotted. That's mainly because, while I think Matt Miller knows way more than I do about these guys, there's players I have developed sort of draft-level crushes on that I feel fit well with Washington, and thus reached a bit to grab them. Tolliver being a guy that I've read had 1st/2nd round potential as a freshman and sophomore but fell off and was overshadowed a bit by others at LSU. That, in a sense, seems to fit what we've been doing at CB lately. Drafting guys (Fuller, Moreau) who have high draft pedigree but have fallen off due to injury or other issues, for example.

Now that the site is aware of the Smith trade and the subsequent impact on the Redskins roster, I avoided QB altogether and focused on value/need. Made one trade early to move back two spots in the first, but recoup the third round pick lost in the Smith trade.

Roquan Smith at ILB, OLB or even Safey was simply too gifted a player to pass up at pick 15 in the first. DT Hurst is probably better suited in a 4-3 but is talented enough to play a large DE opposite Jonathan Allen in the Redskins' 3-4 base.

WR position gets another red-zone beast in Cobbs to go with Doctson and a speedy deep-threat in Burnett to try to take the top off the defense, something this team has lacked since Jackson. Hurst would be a terrific talent at  TE to have, given Reed's injury history and Davis' age.

OLB Warner would be decent insurance, assuming one or two of Gallette, Smith and/or Murphy leave in FA. CB Stroman could be depth at the slot corner position that has been weakened by the loss of Fuller.

Your score is: 21515 (GRADE: A-)

How you got Barkley at number 13 is just mind-boggling. The rest of the draft (as good as it is) is just gravy IMO.

Again, snagging Barkley this late in the first round is completely unrealistic, but for the sake of playing the hand you are dealt...here is what I was able to come up with....

Getting an OG talent like Wynn in the second round would solidify the Redskins OL as one of the best in football, IMO

The WR position would be overhauled with some much needed SPEED and another red-zone tower in Cobbs to pair with Doctson

FS Ried would be yet another versatile FS/CB that would fit well into the Redskins defensive schemes.

Between DTs Settle and Speaks, hopefully one would shine as the beefy/skilled NT that this defense sorely lacks

Your score is: 23635 (GRADE: A)

Your Picks:
Round 1 Pick 14 (G.B.): Saquon Barkley, RB, Penn State (A+)
Round 2 Pick 14 (CINN): Isaiah Wynn, OG, Georgia (A+)
Round 3 Pick 12 (G.B.): Justin Reid, FS, Stanford (A)
Round 3 Pick 13 (CINN): Tim Settle, DT, Virginia Tech (A+)
Round 4 Pick 13: Deontay Burnett, WR, Southern California (A+)
Round 5 Pick 12: Simmie Cobbs Jr., WR, Indiana (A+)
Round 5 Pick 13 (G.B.): Trey Quinn, WR, Southern Methodist (A+)
Round 6 Pick 14: M.J. Stewart, CB, North Carolina (A+)

*SIGH* Another draft where Saquon Barkley unrealistically slides, but hey, you gotta play the board you have!

I got zinged for selecting OG Hernandez in the 2nd round, but I think he would make for a terrific mauler along with Scherff in front of Barkley.

I think the d-line would get a great boost from DT Gaines (322 lbs) and Senat who could play NT or DE.

WR Burnett is a speed merchant, but will need to add muscle. Could be the deep-threat that this offense needs.

OLB Rolland-Jones would be a welcome addition as a pass-rusher assuming either Gallette or Murphy depart in FA and CB Stroman (great value IMO) could replace the traded Fuller (also from VT, ironically) as a slot CB and return punts.

Your score is: 21730 (GRADE: A-)

Ok, OLB Edwards would be a bit of a controversial pick in the first round, but he does possess unique physical gifts. Could be something akin to an Ed Too-Tall Jones. HIGHLY rated by NFL.com and got him with pick 21 while gaining an extra pick in round 2 and grabbing a 3rd.... Felt the need to explain myself regarding this pick.

I like OG Wynn. He would bring the NASTY demeanor that this OL is fostering with Scherff, and Williams.

TE Goedert will make for a great apprentice and potential future starter under current TEs Reed (injury) and Davis (age).

RB Michel has the skills to be a 3-down back with play-making ability in the 3rd round

The rest of the draft, I tried to focus on the weakest areas of the team, IMO...WR and DL with an eye on value...DTs Tillary and Hill could play both 4-3 (Nickle) DT or 3-4 NT. WR Gallup is well-rounded and good value in the 5th round, would make someone like WR Grant look over his shoulder. WR Pringle is the speedy type this offense needs.

CB Stewart, is a versatile DB with the ability to help out at Safety in needed.

Not my best score, but I took advantage of more trades than I normally do.

I would love the prospect of DJ and Derwin pairing together at the Safety position (Double D's anyone?)

RB Johnson could push for the starting RB position and at the very least be a solid, multi-talented, change of pace back. Scarbrough could be a goalline and short-yardage specialist.

WRs Cain and Gallup would add much needed speed and even some height (Gallup).

TE Schultz would be, yet another, solid blocking TE to add in to the current squad. Go jumbo with Sprinkle and Schultz...

The site wasn't too thrilled with what I did early in the draft, but I would be!

Plugging in a guy like OG Hernandez to this O-line could transform the running game up the middle.

DTs Bryan and Harrison would add some much needed depth and youth on the D-line.

RBs Guice and Scarborough would not only add depth at the RB position but Guice could easily challenge for the #1 RB and Scarbrough could be a great goalline and short-yardage back.

WRs Cain and Coutee would add some much needed speed to the WR corps.

DBs Watts and Dawson would add some versatility and depth to the defensive backfield.

I thought QB Benkert was good value as a project QB in the 7th round.
