Terrell Owens was hospitalized Thursday in Los Angeles and later released after an unidentified person called 911 to report a medical emergency at an apartment where the free-agent wide receiver had been staying, TMZ.com reported Monday.

The website later cited law enforcement sources in reporting that officials were responding to a possible prescription pill overdose. Police spoke to Owens at the hospital before he was released.

An Owens rep had no comment when contacted by TMZ.com.

The 37-year-old receiver said Wednesday that he plans on playing this season despite still working to recover from a torn anterior cruciate ligament. He had 983 yards and nine touchdowns for the Cincinnati Bengals last season but hasn't been able to find a new team this year.

Owens ranks second on the NFL's all-time list in receiving yards (15,934) and tied for second in touchdowns (153) with Randy Moss.

TO will likely push himself into the HOF by his stats, but he doesn't deserve it. His insistense on being the offensive focal point despite his suspect hands and his penchant for throwing QBs who don't acquiesce under the bus are why he makes highlight reels but his teams never go far.

Does anyone doubt in a few years he'll be broke and living with his mother, a la Chris McAlister.....

What - you don't think his mother will take care of him after he blows all his money?

I don't know about that part, nor do I have any interest in it.

He IS a hall of fame player. There's no question about it. 100% believe it.

He's arguably the 2nd best receiver to ever play the game. Players like TO don't come along annually.

i would argue that the HOF is the last place owens belongs. sure he was once a great individual player great for fantasy geeks but he did more damage to the teams he played on than any ultimate good. sorry but anyone that gets kicked off of multiple teams, insults their own teammates and causes so much drama isnt worthy of the HOF.

hes probably just depressed because he now realizes that nothing lasts forever and he pissed his career away being a d-bag. owens would have been well served to live by the axiom "be careful who you step on on your way up, theyll remember you on your way down".
