With Lockout lifted and stay denied - free for all?!?

I realize there are other threads about the lockout being lifted and stay denied. But, this thread is not all about that. Isn't this a window of opportunity for the Redskins to go after all top free agents?? If so, who would be your #1 target? I would love for the Redskins to pick up Nnamdi Asomugha...

Since the league has not put forth any rules governing free agency, it is not open season just yet. But the time may be on the horizon, and not just for veteran free agents. If the owners lose another round and cannot get the players back to the bargaining table, the entire structure of the league, including future NFL drafts, which was collectively bargained for by the union, may be in jeopardy. The possibilities for someone as aggressive as Snyder would be endless. Remember that in the "good ol days" of JKC, he routinely lost money paying salaries for players who Beatherd stashed on IR. Riggins came to the skins when George Allen brought him in, with Calvin Hill and Jean Fugate, in one of the only true eras of free agency in league history. If it becomes the wild west out there, I think we can count on Snyder being at the head of the pack.

Very interesting. I wonder how many of the posters that have been screaming for Snyder to sell this team would feel then.

If the league goes back to the 2010 rules, don't expect the Skins to sign top FA. UFA would be RFA and that means giving up draft picks.

Those like Carlos Rodgers who were RFA's last year, are going to be UFA this year. There will be a lot of those.

I don't know how the NFL could extend the CBA rules of 2010 forward. The CBA was a protection against anti-trust litigation. If the NFL apply the 2010 rules they would be in violation of anti-trust laws and subject to paying triple damages. Franchise tags, restricted free agency, & the draft are all violations of anti-trust law and only exist in a collectively bargained contract. There is no CBA so all bets are off. I can't believe that they are going forward with the draft as that will become Exhibit A in the players' evidence of illegal employment activity by the NFL.

Every player w/o a contract is a free agent, period. And free agency should have already started. The NFL owners are so arrogant to believe that a bunch of conservative judges in the 8th District are going to rule against free market principles and side with them to preserve an essentially socialist system. Their greed has warped their collective sense of reality.

If I were Snyder I'd be on the phone to the agents of every top college prospect But he won't break rank. Pity.
