The Denver Broncos and representatives for quarterback Tim Tebow are working "feverishly" to complete contract negotiations, according to sources close to the discussions.

According to one source, progress has been made and the deal should happen in the next 24 to 48 hours.

Broncos head coach Josh McDaniels called Tebow when the quarterback failed to sign in time for the official beginning of training camp, which began with a meeting Wednesday morning.

The full team doesn't take the field until Sunday but quarterbacks Kyle Orton and Brady Quinn are participating. McDaniels reminded Tebow that he is losing repetitions that he can never regain and needs them more than the veteran players against whom he will be competing.

Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant, who has signed and is in camp, was picked immediately before Tebow. While that has helped create contract parameters, Tebow's agent, Jimmy Sexton, is believed to be seeking the customary quarterback premium that would pay his client more than a player taken before him.

Tebow was the second quarterback drafted and is apparently seeking more guaranteed money in a signing bonus.

I don't blame him. He's going to need it when he busts out of the league in 3 years. He won't get a second contract, so he had better milk this one for all its worth. And I also don't blame him for wanting the QB premium. He obviously was taken to be the future for McDaniels

And I don't even hate Tebow. I don't think he won't get a second contract because he NEVER could have been good. I just think McDaniels will continue to ruin the team around him and draft poorly, and he'll never get a chance to show that he can be at least mediocre. Instead, it will be one of the worst reaches in draft history.

He apparently already has some major endorsement deals knocking on his door.

I'm not surprised at all, he's very marketable, especially in certain parts of the country, such as Florida and the "Bible Belt" states.

I doubt Tebow will hold out too long. Hes always eager to work and hasnt seemed to be very money oriented.

Or not.

Lemme guess, he's so humble that he believes everything his agent is telling him and that's why he didn't report on time. C'mon. Wake up, dude.

Doesn't have a thing to do with the fact that Tebow isn't first round talent. Too many questions in his game to justify picking him that high.

If no one else fit their need sheet, they obviously felt they can work with him and make him productive, why not? He's dangerous as a wildcat QB, and you could use him for double passes and tomfoolery like that.

Might not have been the best pick, but I wouldn't call it a bad one

It absolutely was a bad pick, at that spot. They had no need to trade up that high, they could easily have waited longer.

Not to mention, Tebow's game doesn't translate to the Wildcat. He'd be like a more fragile FB running up the middle, not really the explosive kind of runner you want running that formation. He could pass out of it, though.

Didn't they trade up to get him? Why not just let him fall to you in the 2nd round? Or later? I think 31 teams expected Clausen and McCoy to go before Tebow. I don't have a crystal ball to figure out where he would have gone if the Broncos hadn't taken him at #25, but I wouldn't have been surprised if he had lasted until the 3rd or 4th round.

And you gotta love agents. If your client slid from the top 10 to the 24th pick, he needs top 10 money. If your client was a major reach in the 1st round, he needs a 'position premium'. I wouldn't leave him alone with my sister, but Mr. Sexton can represent me in my next negotiation anytime. :ols:

The Broncos needed a QB. Orton and Quinn don't exactly scream production at you.

And they still will .

Can someone explain how McDaniels still has a job ? Can he be this inept or can he just be lulling the rest of the leauge into a false sense of security ?

I don't really think you get the overall idea behind the wildcat if you think Tebow is "dangerous" as a wildcat QB.

And you don't draft a guy in the first round because he's useful for "double passes and tomfoolery."

Well, the Broncos do I guess. But that's why I agree with this post:

Tebow's starting with a handicap due to the situation around him.

He's a major project QB who's being thrown into the spotlight on a team that seems to be led by a guy who doesn't have a very good idea of what he's doing.

That should ruffle some Dez feathers...first, a lower receiver gets more money than him, then the second qb picked (also lower than him) gets more.

I hear the sounds of a disgruntled rookie coming our way...

Keep drinking that media kool-aid about Bryant being so disgruntled.

Yeah. He's a guy who would be in a tough situation with ANY team, needing to develop for a couple of years at least. Instead, he was drafted by an egomaniac who is not only disassembling his team, but re-stocking it with terrible draft choices. He'll be "needed" sooner than he's ready, if he ever could be ready, and being a first rounder not only raises expectations and adds further hype, but also expedites his development in a way that can only lead to failure.

I don't hate Tebow, in fact, I'd like to see him do well, but everytime his name comes up it makes me think about the time I wasted watching the draft to see Baltimore not pick in the first round. >.<

It absolutely was a bad pick, at that spot. They had no need to trade up that high, they could easily have waited longer.

It was an odd choice, but obviously wanted him badly in order to trade their 2nd, 3rd, and 4th round picks (and his agent is probably all over that fact).

Maybe they thought he wouldn't make it to the 43rd or something....

And they still will.

He's obviously living off of the Bronco's 6-0 start. However, his bold decision to trade Cutler turned out to be a pretty good idea. He might actually know what he's doing.

Not really, he just happened to trade him to a team who didn't utilize him properly, and who had no talent on offense. That doesn't change the fact that they squandered the picks they got for him, and still don't have a QB.

At least he has his new Jockey underwear endorsement to fall back on.

I think a creative OC would have Tebow running in as a short-yardage, goal-line offensive specialist at the QB position working out of the shotgun.

It wouldn't even take a creative OC to figure that out. That's what Florida did with him when they got into short yardage or inside the 10 yard line.

I don't think he'll be bringing the "jump pass" with him though.
