SIXX99
So has Deangelo been resigned yet and if not where are the negotiations? We need him back so bad, he is the best corner we have had since Champ Bailey.

I didn't really want to start one but curiosity got the best of me and we need him back like crazy. They should take Springs money and give it to him. dockeryfan
This is where the front office fails the most. Failing to re-sign players for a modest price. Springs. You got to go. Hall, realize that your career can continue if you stay, if not, be prepared to bounce around for a few years and be done after 3 more years at most. Misterwookas
The rumor I have been hearing is that the team is going to try and trade Carlos Rogers and sign DeAngelo Hall. Everybody seemed down on Hall when he got to the Skins but as we seen he did an excellent job.

addicted
My own feelings on this issue are mixed. Do I want to re-Sign Hall...the answer is yes Do I think re-signing Hall will help the problem on Defense and think we should do that? The answer is No We have only so much cap space and the issue this team has above any other is the deterating Offensive and Defensive lines. We must fix those first if we want to have any success next season. Limiting our draft picks to just 4 doesn't help much so the only true way that we will be able to improve both of the lines is by entering Free Agency. We have signed Rogers on the cheap for next season. If we resign Hall it won't be cheap and it will eat up most of our availible cap room. The best part of our Defense last season was the corner play. It truely is our deepest position with Hall, Rogers, Smoot, and Springs. If we were to cut Springs (time to face the fact he won't play here for a dime less then what we owe him and he's not worth that contract) that leaves us with Rogers, Smoot, and Hall. I don't understand the idea of trading a player just as good like Carlos for the simple reason of being able to resign Hall a more expensive player? The only reason we should make a move to resign Hall and trade Rogers is if Carlos simply refused to resign here next season. But even if that is the case and no one here honestly knows that, we would be rewarded if he left by the league. So if both players are as good and servicable as the other why trade the cheaper one and keep the more expensive player for a draft pick? If we wanted to improve the Defensive line with a playmaker and leader like Peppers we simply don't have the money to resign Hall as well. So it's really a choice the teams got to make. Last season we had one of the best corner combos in the league and what did that get us? Out of the playoffs. Do we really still want to continue to build the Defensive team from the outside in? I think the only way that were going to improve both the Defensive line and the Offensive line this year is if we draft one, and pick the other from Free Agency. That's going to require free cap space and wasting all of our free cap space on resigning Hall isn't going to allow that. If we were to trade Rogers for a second and release Springs and resigned Hall we will be left with Smoot and Hall and that combination scares me. We know that if we start Carlos and Smoot how that goes and it went very well in the past. Hall was cut by the Raiders for a reason and since he played here in DC he played much much better but is that how its always gonna be or is that the exception to the rule? No one really knows for sure. The people on this forum who believe that we will get the same talent of player if we trade down in the draft to lower rounds then if we picked in the higher rounds are delussional. There is a reason why guys in the first round of the draft get paid so much more money then the guys paid in later rounds. The most talented players are picked in the first round. If this team wants to find a very talented player we need to stay in round one and pick the best player there on either the O-line or the D-line. We can't trade down from that pick. And honestly were not going to get the caliber of player in Carlos Rogers that we'd pull from a second round draft pick. That's the very reason why other teams would be interested in trading a second round pick for Rogers, Rogers is first round talent we would be giving away. The Redskins would almost be better off keeping him for another year and then losing him in FA to another team then we would trading him for a second because if we did that: Rogers is in his contract year so we'd get his best effort every game of the year If he left us we'd get a 3rd round compensatory draft pick from the league for losing hime If he had a bad year or reinjured himself we'd be able to resign him cheaper then if we tried to right now So if we keep Rogers its almost better then trading him for a second this season. If he wants the money lets make him earn it and keep him around. If I were GM my plan would be to do the following: 1. Cut Springs and Jason Taylor (not worth the money owed) frees up money for FA 2. Not resign Hall let him go (tough decision but we are rebuilding and he is a luxury) 3. Keep Carlos this season 4. Use the money we saved by not re-signing Hall, cutting Springs and Taylor on the best Defensive Lineman we can afford in FA. Don't need a pass rush specialist we need a run stopper in the middle more. 5. Use the 1st round draft pick on the best Offensive lineman availible 6. Use our next draft pick on the best corner availible hope he becomes a good player 7. In training camp get Tryon more involved and pick up a cheap veteran to help with depth and injuries if they come up at that postion That way in my eyes we improve both the Defensive and Offensive Lines the most possible and don't hurt the corner postion too much. My belief here is that superior corner play it will not win you titles when you have poor defensive line play. When we have a crushing Defensive Line that will control the offensive that will trickle down and help the corners and safties much more and make them better players. We don't need to have two probowl corners to be successful, we will need to have a much better Defensive line if we want to win next season. We won't be able to improve the two lines with our one first round pick alone so we have to make sacrifices to do that. I believe letting talented players like Hall go helps us more long term then it would resigning him and ignoring the line another year.

skinsince72
I hope we can keep Hall and Rodgers. Rodgers may have stone hands but I think he covers well. Plus, he still has room to grow. A pass rush may give him all the INT's we have been looking for. A backfield w/ Hall, Rodgers, and Landry could be one of the best in the league. JeffSchmeff
They better keep Rogers or I'll be pissed. This team can't keep giving away homegrown talent and bringing in free agents.
Skins PR
I have reservations about Hall. Seems a little suspicious that he underachieved and had character issues, was bounced from two teams in a matter of a few months, but then all of a sudden looks better when he is eight games away from a new contract. And what team did he happen to play those eight games for... the Washington Redskins. The team with the best reputation for paying big contracts to players so they can stop trying hard. SkinsAllDay34
what would a reasonable starting cap number be? It will probably be a 6 year deal, nowhere near what he go in Oakland. I think if we can negotiate a starting number of around 4.5 or 5 the first year and inclines after that, it would give us more flexibility this offseason.
