Palin Misquotes Albright: "Place In Hell Reserved For Women Who Don't Support Other Women"

At a rally on Saturday in California, Sarah Palin offered up a rather jarring argument for supporting the Republican ticket. "There's a place in Hell reserved for women who don't support other women," the Alaska Governor said, claiming she was quoting former Clinton Secretary of State Madeleine Albright.

The statement came after Palin had recounted a "providential" moment she experienced on Saturday: "I'm reading on my Starbucks mocha cup, okay? The quote of the day... It was Madeleine Albright, former Secretary of State [crowd boos] and UN ambassador. ... Now she said it, I didn't. She said, 'There's a place in Hell reserved for women who don't support other women.'"

Actually, Albright didn't say that. The accurate quote is, "There's a place in Hell reserved for women who don't help other women." (Sources made the same point to CBS's Scott Conroy.)

Palin seemed to realize that the line could be viewed as grating. As the audience cheered, she remarked: "Okay, now, thank you so much for receiving that well. I didn't know how that was gonna go over. And now, California, let's see what a comment like I just made, how that is turned into whatever it'll be turned into tomorrow with the newspaper."

Albright responded to Palin's remarks in a statement to the Huffington Post on Sunday. "Though I am flattered that Governor Palin has chosen to cite me as a source of wisdom, what I said had nothing to do with politics. This is yet another example of McCain and Palin distorting the truth, and all the more reason to remember that this campaign is not about gender, it is about which candidate has an agenda that will improve the lives of all Americans, including women. The truth is, if you care about the status of women in our society and in our troubled economy, the best choice by far is Obama-Biden."

Here's the video...BTW, I love the "Progressive Conservatives that Palin is dreaming about...OMG!"

I must be missing something because she is not qualified to be VP because she used "support" instead of "help"?

Albright was not talking about "supporting" or "helping" women in politics, which is the point that the empty skirt Palin was trying to make, but like the article says Palin knew it wasn't going to go over well.

BTW, did you watch the video? Palin is an utter train wreck, nothing but catch phrases, sound bytes and bumper sticker slogans...all trying to be 1 heart beat away from the Presidency, with her impressive "Sports Journalism" degree from the Univ of Idaho and her vast experience in Wasilla a city she left 20 million dollars in debt. Is she a bimbo who is VASTLY underqualified to lead this country if the worst should happen? Well to answer I'll just quote her "you betcha." Dear Lord, is it too much to ask to have that can enunciate correctly!?

Gimme a break. If we judged soley on public Speaking gaffe's then Biden shouldnt even be in politics.

Obama has made his share as well... his "57 states" alone would show he doesnt know what country he wants to run.

This is not a gaffe, this is another in a long line of blatant misquotes from the McCain camp, the point is not "support" or "help" the point is that Albright was not speaking about women in politics, and for Palin to use it in this way simply discredits her even further.

Here's the context, it came from a question in Time magazine.

10 Questions for Madeleine Albright

By DEPARTMENT Thursday, Jan. 10, 2008

What advice do you have for women who want respect from their male colleagues? Dana Philbin, CHICAGO

Women have to be active listeners and interrupters—but when you interrupt, you have to know what you are talking about. I also think it is important for women to help one another. I have a saying: There is a special place in hell for women who don't.

How about "I found an article that further illustrates Palin's ineptitude for the job for which she has been nominated". Or, "Here's yet another reason that shows Palin to be the empty skirt from Wasilla."

The problem is that same line of thought can be found for all of these candidates. So what exact point are you making? That an inept person is going to be president or an inept person can be president only if the president dies?

Actually Asbury, this is worse than a flub or a mistake. This was a calculated move to twist Albright's words in an effort to shore up the women's vote which McCain has been losing of late. "Hey, we can change one word and potentially shore up the women's vote. If it gets caught, we've still got plausible deniability."

In short, see my sig.

Every time Palin shows up as "herself" she further draws into question McCain's judgment, and with her pick he seriously brought into question his age and health concerns, and if you don't believe me then ask Sam Donaldson. Who said after the Palin pick, "And I think the question of age is back on the table." Her choice as VP running mate is not only wreckless and irresponsible, but is also cynical and blatant pandering to a populace that might be swayed by a pretty girl in a skirt...and in no way puts "country first", but only attempts to put "McCain first". He's trying to win an election and he made a political move that he thought would help him do that, and he made that decision with little or no regard to wether her choice as running mate was actually the BEST decision he could make not only for his potential presidency but for the well being of the nation if God forbid the worst should happen while he is in office.

So all the women that supported McCain and not Hillary during the primary process are going to burn in hell? Check.

What if women want to support someone who supports women's rights and doesn't want to outlaw their ability to make decisions about their own bodies?

Exactly, there will be no making reasonable arguments that will be weighed and judged on the basis of the strength and validity of the argument's actual merits coming from the McCain campaign. Their strategy is "say it loud, say it proud, say it often...who gives a damn if its not true these suckers will believe anything. Kool-Aid, get your ice cold Kool-Aid!"

Weren't you a Hillary supporter?

BAH! NEVER!!

I was abstaining from voting in politics as a protest until I finally figured out that not voting was pointless, and I rode the fence for the past 6 months on the following two choices: 1) don't vote or 2) vote for Obama; mainly due to the fact that McCain was NEVER going to get my vote because he is not the same guy he was 8 years ago, and he sold out to the same people Bush sold out to so that he could win the election. Finally, I watched Obama's nomination acceptance speech and I realized that I wanted him to be President, now I annoy all my friends with Pro-Obama stuff. Being in Kentucky I know my vote won't do much good but I try to influence others in areas that can have more affect on things, if only to keep them from voting for McCain.

Well, it's good to see you back. Your boy chomerics is gone for good, though. I'm glad you came back with less than two months before election day. Was it that reason alone or the Skins looking so good?

Well, I spent most of my summer computer time on SecondLife, but then that started to get old. I enjoy the medival roleplaying sims, but the interpersonal drama really sucked the life out of it, so I started hanging out at some of the "Christian" sims and all they did was fight with each other...a real plus for our community I might add , so in the end I decided to come back home to all the socialists and facists who call themselves 'Skins fans. It didn't hurt that football season is in full swing, and I knew that the political junkies on here are typically "above average" (yes a generalization to be sure) so the debates would be better informed.

BTW, what happened to chomerics?
