A bit of irony

I was watching Joe Scarbourgh's show on MSNBC last night and he did a segment on Muslim schools in NY City that were teaching the kids to hate Jews and Christians. He quoted out of one of the text books something to the effect that "Jews and Christians were immoral as they indulge themselves in porno, alcohol and drugs, gambling, and homosexuality. I find it a little bit ironic as the people in this country that are antiwar among other things, such as the Hollywood elite and the radical left are the people the Muslims hate most.

I am shocked that the New York School system lets those books to use. I have a feeling there are a lot of investigations going in on these books. The entire part he quoted was insane, I would love the hear someone from the left-side spin this.

Guys, guys, don't you know that it's not radical Islamists who hate us and want us dead? No, it's really extremist Christians who perpetrated 9/11 and represent the real threat to this country. How do I know this? I read it on Democratic Underground, of course!

You said it, code. We didn't. Sounds like you're starting to think like Bin Laden and his pals.

Sorry, but my sarcastic side reared it's ugly head...

I didn't see the story, but because it's a "muslim school"(that's what the post says) that leads me to believe that it was not a public school. I work for a public school system and we do not teach religion... period. If this is a private school, than those wackos can teach their kids how to hate and there probably isn't much we can do about it.

But we should not stereotype all muslims...

Islam is the fastest growing faith in the world and I believe it is now the second largest in the U.S. (eclipsing Judaism, I would guess).

I am pathetically ignorant of Islam - my concept is pretty much shaped by caterwauling Iranian women holding up 'Death To Carter' signs and visions of Palestinians dancing in the wake of 9/11.

I've been trying to push through Hourani's A History of the Arab Peoples, but nothing I've read makes me very comfortable. While the core work, the Qur'an, contains much about love, there's plenty there to justify all the hatred directed at infidels. (I know, you can say the same about Christianity, but that was pretty much the Christianity of the 1300s).

I'm concerned we'll end up with a Shi'ite fundamentalist state in Iraq that naturally allies with Iran in hating the U.S. The Iraqi Kurds will feel betrayed and therefore hate the U.S. And the Sunnis, having lost power, will blame the U.S. and hate us.

The major problem with Muslim schools in the US are that they are funded by the Saudia government. And most Muslim youth in this country do not want to kill Jews and Christians and do end up partaking in immoral activites such as drinking, gambling and oh living life.

Until we can free ourselves from the radicals of Bin Laden we will be a stuck in the same quagmire

This is a very reasonable concern. However, should Iraq become a Shiite Fundamentalist State (and possibly even if it does not), the Kurds will fight for and win autonomy, if not outright independence. The Peshmerga are the toughest SOBs in that country. They would've beaten Saddam in '91 if it hadn't been for the chemical weapons. The Sunni Arabs are likely going to hate us however this turns out, because they were the privileged group in Iraq since its creation and will now be relegated to its most insignificant minority.

Aside from the Quran, you might read What Everyone Should Know About Islam and Muslims by Susanne Haneef, A Peace To End All Peace by David Fromkin as well as any of the books on Islam by Karen Armstrong.

All of these are very good reading and will give you a pretty good idea of what Islam and Muslims are about.

We do need school vouchers for that reason to ensure our kids have the choice to go to a school that teaches truth justice and the Christian err American Way (samething).

Funny how Saddam and son's home had plenty of Dom Perignon which is over rated and cognac.

Funny how in Afghanistan the wealthy men there keep young poor boys even if they are married (the only thing the Taliban did that i liked was that they quelled the butt pirates on penalty of castration and death). this is /was a tradition yet goes against the writings.

I'm ignorant of the religion as I dont see any redeeming value in how it is taught.

They might have to go with 21st century version of the Kuran which should also mean get cable and sat to get more than one view of the world

So you are saying that parents would brainwash their kids if they had the choice where to send their kids?

Funny how the kids that go to those types of schools here are a lot more well mannered and positive than some of those in public schools.

Somehow a public school system like those in Oakland and NYC has moral values and system that parents should have complete faith in?

Some would. Some are.

I guess you're saying kids get their moral values from schools?

Right you are Navy Dave,

We should brainwash our kids too, just to make it even! Who's next? Syria? Iran? How about France? That would only take a week!

Why don't you go visit one of those countries and see for yourself the hate that is being tought to the children and then make a more educated opinion about brainwashing!

No but school systems like Oakland do think they are more of a moral authority than parents.

Fortunately I know that my kid will be in a private school of my choice to coincide with the values we will instill in him.

Good for you, just don't ask me to help pay for it.
